You are correct, Skullcrasher. It is unfortunate that copulation has played such a part in our civilization, but it has always been a constant through time, in almost every civilization. Turn on the TV and you are bombarded with a large array of images that flaunt sexual themes to no end. This is something that impacts all of us, whether we like it or not. Though, it has become nothing more than a passing thought.

You do not think you have moral obligations? You have them, either by choice or by force. Try to make it in this world without adopting a specific set of morals as your own. I would like to see how far you get. The mob defines reality, whether you like it or not. While the mold may, and will change, it will always exist.

Me? This has nothing to do with me having moral obligations. Its about the fashion industry being pressured by society and politics to PC their advertising images.

Comparing it to 500 years ago is a bad idea. Back then the womens role was to clean the house, have kids and take care of them. They were not working jobs, that was the mens role. So back then yes teen pregnancy would have been more then now because that was the only thing that women were really suppose to do.
So you people are saying that the media has no affect about kids having sex and becoming pregnant? lol Really? I agree that it is not as taboo anymore but it still having an affect on the population. It is the same thing with underage drinking. Around here a TON of high schoolers drink (21 is drinking age in USA). Why? Because they think it will make them cool and stupid shit like that. The media does have a heavy affect on adolescences. I would find studies BUT it is 5:36am and I am getting ready to go to work. (If someone wants to find some and post them for me, that would be awesome. Otherwise it will be 9 hours or so before I get a chance)

Well, I was thinking that you scoffed at the term itself, rather than the context it was used in. If I am mistaken, that is fine. I may have jumped the gun, as I sometimes do at this hour, and in general. I am by no means beyond reproach.

No one is denying that the media influences teenage. But unless you find that the image alone has a direct cause towards teenage pregnancies, its pointless. For argument sake, If the media had such a huge impact as you say, then teenage pregnancies will be going up, but it is steadily declining since early 1990's.
You are getting off-topic with underage drinking. It is not the fault of the kids that haven't experienced alcohol to not be curious about it. It is the fault of the U.S government that tries to control drinking by putting more bans upon it.

I don't really mind, but the comment was made in context with the quote that I used. The quote is from the article.

Ok so I pulled it from Fox News site, big deal - CNN, MSNBC, etc. all have the same dumb articles, just written from a different viewpoint.
OT: I kinda like the ad. I'm sure had i been driving on that street corner, I probably would have wrecked my car from the distraction.
and please, there is NO nudity, and they are all practically fully clothed. dude's head in other guy's lap is kinda homoerotic, but he's making out with the chick, so...
basically the point is that people need to get over the fact that sex sells. I gotta say, i'm surprised at how many people were uptight about it.

I Pwnd u, please dont make false correlatations about the media being responsible for teen pregnancies.
I started looking at underwear models at age 4, and porn from age 12, neither of which made me want to go and start having actuall sex, in fact the result is actually the opposite - access to pornography actually allows one to controll their desires and makes them less likely to want to have sex. Whereas a person who has a powerful libido but is completely shut off from access to any kind of pornography or erotic material will turn out more likely to want sex at a younger age, and if unsuccessful they may potentially even resort to rape.
Just because a kid hears about sex or sees an erotic image doesnt make that kid want to have sex or become pregnant, there is no correlation at all between these two things.
Also, the role of many women today is still to have kids and look after them while cleaning the house and cooking the dinner, I have a mother who has freely chosen herself to live such a lifestyle, as do many strongly religious women.
The whole scare and worry about underage pregnancies is mostly a problem with people who have strong religious beliefs as well, yet many of these same people do not want their kids to be taught sex education and contraceptives at school.
Abstinence is not the answer, a 12 year old with a strong libido is not going to be controlled by telling them this. If teens are going to be wanting to have underage sex, the best thing to do is to make sure they are fully taught about contraceptives, pregnancy and STDs. The lack of sex education early enough in a childs life is a much larger cause of teen pregnancies than erotic adverts are. Also dont forget about my earlier explanation of age of consent and population size also being bigger contributers to teen pregnancies.
In the USA, a 17 year old girl having a child would be classed as an underage pregnancy. In spain, a 13 year old girl having a child would not be classed as an underage pregnancy.

No image will ever have that effect, thus why I was saying media influence and not simply that picture is going to make people want to have sex. The reason teenage pregnancy is decreasing imo is not because of less sex but because of earlier sex education. Parents are start to let girls go on the pill earlier and younger kids don't get strange looks when buying condoms because it is becoming more socially acceptable (which is BS). That is how it is around here anyways.
Found a short abstract that overviews some media influence for ya.
http://www.jahonline.org/article/S10...200-4/abstract
Also
http://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl...=viewport&pg=1
(Read just the abstract on that one)
According to them the media has an influence. The media does not necessarily get the pregnant but by displaying sex as okay it can lead to it. With the media recently starting to promote safe sex more teenagers are starting to practice safe sex.
For other countries having different ideas of what under aged pregnancy is would skew teenage pregnancies. But for just America it doesn't. Even still the media does have an impact on teenagers no matter it being sex, alcohol or doing something to be accepted. (Stereotypes from TV shows, the jock is always cool and gets all the girls, geeks/nerds have to wear thick glasses)

That was just another example to support media influence, not something to really focus on.

And I have no problem with that. My mom used to do that before we were all old enough to take care of ourselves. She then went back to school and got a degree and now teaches. Many women today still do that and enjoy it very much. But 500 years ago that is what was expected of them and what they did. Today many hold jobs and the such but are not required too.
(Was going to mention that earlier but I forgot)

It's not about "sex" selling, this is for shock value. More publicity, more stares, more attraction to the brand.
Guess what, it worked.
I don't agree with it... but their marketing department is genius.

IMO, polygamy is acceptable for those who wish to partake in it, although religious groups such as Christians would probably disagree. Consequently, *I* have no isses with this campaign. This wouldn't be a problem if it were a coventional couple therefore polygamy is the hot issue here, right? Selling with sexuality is nothing new or worth debating in 2009.
It's the narrow minded, religiously-led people who are brainwashed by their authoratative figures who would object to this sort of thing whereas, if you use your own untainted logic, nothing is actually wrong with multiple partners.
As for the 50 feet poster, I don't see anything repulsive in it. A 50 feet Big Mac with a giant slimy gherkin is more likely to turn my stomach.

That is actually a different way of looking at it. I guess I was shocked by what I saw and felt it was wrong, but ya their marketing department was darn smart. With all the media attention they are getting from it and such, probably going to help boost there sales.

When was the last time you got laid, bro?
edit:
Whoever believes in the "kids drink because it's cool" mantra are ignoring the fact that kids drink because it's really damn fun.
