I am building my own desktop and I am looking for another game to play.

Interested in first person shooters and strategy games that have nice graphics and have nice online play. Looking for ones you may have liked.

WOW and any other pay per month games is out of the question.

Graphics I will be running = Radeon 4890 HD 1gb

This. CoD4 is much better than CoD5 (imo anyways), and TF2 is just awesome (and cheap).

Although I'd probably skip CoD all together until November. Modern Warfare 2 is going to be amazing.

Above games are excellent to test your Ati out. They also have a co-op. campaign mode.

Tribes 2
Tribes 1 (Prefer Tribes 2)

Those above are FPS. Nobody has heard about them but they're free and awesome. Try in solo + LAN first and read the guide on the www.tribesnext.com site. I prefer this over counterstrike as a main FPS and over others but thats a matter of preference. Well, I've probably wasted a few thousand hours of my life playing this game.

Well... if you're not already into it anime is awesome I suggest
- Death Note
- Code Geass

As startups. Watch 3 episodes of death note and you'll be addicted to it in no time (trust me :O) more anime recommendations in the off - topic anime / manga thread on guru (Regina himself watches anime).

Shooterwise, CoD4 and TF2 are the best you'll find. I'd recommend L4D as well but it (imo) doesn't have the same amount of replayability. Sins of a Solar Empire is an amazing strategy game.

Dunno bout DoW2 though, but maybe things will get a bit better with this next patch. Otherwise it's quite an annoying game. The single-player campaign is really fun with a friend, though, even though it's pretty much an RPG. My friends and I kinda wished that's all DoW2 was.

The Tribes series, UT99 and Quake 3 are all amazing if you're into old-school competitive shit. If not there's always the team-based games that are constantly being pumped out and are good for pubs (TF2, CoD4, BF2, etc).
