Guild Wars Alphas Unite!
Long time no see.
I was just wondering if any of the original Guild Wars 1 alpha testers are still lurking around and what you boys and girls are up to these days.
Since there has been complete silence about GW2 for years now, I finally gave in and preordered Aion. After playing at the CBT5 last weekend, I gotta say, the game is strangely fun in a non-typical MMORPG kinda way. Sure, there are still generic MMO activities that you do, but somehow they feel less frustrating and more enjoyable. And the flight combat is pretty cool too.
At least something to hold me over until GW2.

How's Aion end-game and the Abyss like?
Because I noticed that leveling really holds to a stop sometime after 20.

Whats the PvP like in Aoin?
balanced?
Would it be more like GW, WoW or something in a different direction?
as in Invun and CCs?
thinking of picking it up on preorder this week.

It's a mix.
Aion is a GW/WoW/L2/Cabal/Dekaron/PW/MapleStory clone.
At least that's what guru mods are saying.

beeen playing ever since but,
As some of you say Aion I have pre -order and paid up to Dec
I would say its along the lines of 2 Moons/Dekeron 9 Dragons but thats just my opinion
A lot of guys going on about ganking/pking in areas. Was used to that in 2 moons so can live with it...
BTW its been announced that if you have CE then the bonus is account wide now
Next weekend I will be toying with my Sorc as after weekend next thing is a wipe so just having a bit of fun till full release

Hey Morgoth, you still playing?
But back to my original question; any GW1 alpha testers around these lands? Any of you planning on playing GW2?

you sir are one of those who havnt level'd very far and been into the abyss and done some raids the games is always exciting i have never been bored with it even when everyone is sleeping
by far this game is every different from wow in many ways but has some thing s in common. but remeber wow is clones of many other games so dont base it on wow . wow is a epic fail of a game liek the dream system

I was just listening to the latest NCSoft investor conference call (released August 7), and they are actually banning 50,000 bots per month in China. China Aion subscriptions are actually declining, but they aren't sure why, and hope Aion 1.5 will bring people back.
GW2 did not come up at all in the conf call, no news there
GW1 sales were up 20%-33% (on the powerpoint slides, page 5 "Guild Wars" and page 13 "ArenaNet" provide very different quarterly sales numbers) over the previous quarter, and are either roughly equal or 12% higher than the equivalent quarter a year ago.

How do you "read" those PDF's from NCSoft's website? I downloaded them once but couldn't understand the tables/numbers or graphs, or how to get sales data from them, since they used odd terms.

I'm not sure if you are talking about a technical issue with the pdf not displaying certain things properly, or just a terminology issue, but in any case, I've attached a screengrab of the 2 slides I was referencing in my post. Both slides are posting sales in units of Millions of Korean Won, but the numbers are different.
1M KRW is about $817, so ArenaNet sold either $4.2M or $1.4M in 2Q 2009 depending on which number you believe.
