Omg! Fire!
So wow, check this out. I live in the Bonny Doon area of Santa Cruz and we've been evacuated because of the Lockheed fire. Goggle 'Lockheed Fire' and you'll see what I mean.
I had to load up horses, which are now safely at another facility. I'm staying at my brother's house in town. So far the reports I've heard is that our house is fine, but still, it's pretty scary. The plume of bloated, bruised color red/orange/purple smoke is filling the horizon. Ugh.
It's all really surreal. We had to quickly pack after the reverse 911 call telling us to leave, that there is a mandatory evacuation for the Bonny Doon area. The cops came around checking to make sure everyone was leaving. I was loading up horses and kids and camping gear at the time.
They won't let us back up. Maybe I can play GW a bit tomorrow and get my mind off of things. Weird. Just really weird.

Hope all turns out well, I have relatives that live in Northern CA on Oregon border and they always have to be prepared for the worst. Again good luck.

Internet connection? LOL. Those are a dime a dozen at coffee shops around town, which is where I'm at right now.
We're okay and so far, from what I've heard, our house is okay, too. We're going to see if we can check on it today, they might not let us. A lot of police are in the area to prevent looting. Our neighbor stayed and had to sign a waiver acknowledging the dangers so we called him last night and he said it's smoky but otherwise the fire is threatening more the Swanton/Davenport area.
And what Risky Ranger said, you live in the mountains and you are just kind of prepared for these things... to just pack up what you can and walk away. Fortunately we don't have a huge menagerie of animals like a lot of people. We have two horses and two dogs and with my horse trailer and big Suburban we just load everyone up and we're gone. One guy up in our area couldn't catch his (stupid) goats and just left the pen open. Our neighbors own a flower shop and have about 2 acres in flowers as well as keeping tons of chickens, pigs, goats and sheep (their girls are in 4H).
So... we'll see how this all goes.

I hope everything ends up ok for you. Reminds me I need to make sure all our important records are in one place I can easily get to.
If playing GW, maybe avoid Sacnoth Valley and Burning Forest for a while.

Hey you got your own private "Searing" at Bonny Doon! Breakout the marshmellows.
PS: I hope not; but if the fire hits your street; could you please post a pre and post searing picture of the area?

Yeah, hope everything turned out ok, Falynn.
Um, do you think your choice of forum name might have been a bit prophetic?

I hope your house stays okay and no one in your family gets hurt.
IIRC there is a way to keep the area around your house cleared out so you really lower your chances of your house burning down, but I don't know what that is.
