Batman: Arkham Asylum
Dear god in holy heaven hell of Batshit this game is awesome.
Wiki here. Demo here.
PLAY IT. DISCUSS IT. LOVE IT.
MODERATE GAMEPLAY SPOILER:
Hanging people from fixtures and cutting the ropes with batarangs when their buddies are standing under them is the coolest shit ever aside from jumping into the middle of the room and BEATING THEM ALL IN THE FACE WITH MANLINESS.

I really need to download the demo on my ps3. The demo I played in stores was unbelievably amazing. Glad they made a good batman game.

So. Batman: Arkham Asylum was a bad game.
I wanted so much for it to be good. And for a little while, it seemed like it was going to be. Sneaking around, grappling gargoyles, blowing up walls to knock punks out, being the GODDAMN BATMAN... It was amazing.
And then came the boss fight.
The same boss fight.
Over, and over, and over again.
Sometimes there were two bosses instead of one. Sometimes the room was a different shape. But it was always the same exact fight, with the same exact stupid mechanics. Sure, there were a couple boss fights that didn't follow the formula, and yeah, they were neat and enjoyable. But that doesn't save this game. Whoever designed it must have been either extremely lazy, or extremely stupid.
Batman has so many foes, and so many ways to take them out. Hell, that's part of what makes Batman RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing awesome. But in B:AA, you fight one foe, and take him out one way. And you have no choice in the matter, because to progress through the story, you have to fight it, and to beat it, you have to do it one single way. Even the final fight is just a slight variation on what you end up doing for the entirety of the game.
There has never been a good Batman game. I wanted that to change. I wanted that to change so badly. But it looks like Arkham Asylum isn't the saving grace I was hoping it to be.
At least the riddles are, for the most part, well done.

haha that sounds a lot like when i played The Matrix for PS2.
AWESOME game and mechanics. using matrix powers to kill 20 cops in a room was soooo cool.
the downside: it had a play-life of about 1 hour. after that it was the same old shit over and over and over.

Being a Batman fan, I simply love this game.
Great level of detail.

Frickening Awesome. (Yes, it's a word).
Only thing I hate is some controls are wonky, and there's not really a whole lot to come back for. Not to mention it's hard to takedown enemies with guns because they WTFPWN your face.

i enjoyed the game. i got it for the pc, so there are a ton of mods that i could install to make batman look better.
while i agree that the boss battles were pretty much the same for all i really enjoyed the game. i liked the pacing and the story.
i also agree that the combat was rather bland where you basically get 2 special move to use and they were somewhat like quick time events. but then if you look at the ending there could be a sequel so it is combat could get better.
inverted takedown is cool

Eh, that's true. Atleast the regular henchmen weren't just graphic fodder, they were actually like super-easy computer versus in a way. Not your average video game
