What's your current party configuration? What's your class and what party members are with you?
And don't feel too discouraged by the pack of wolves. The difficulty curve for this game is spiky as hell, and packs of wolves have been more dangerous to me than nearly all of the bosses.
Plus, a lot of the big fights - the pack of wolves, the huge storm of angry villagers - are difficult only in the sense that you can't position yourself before the battle happens. It's especially fun (i.e. not at all D: ) when you're more of a backline character.

I disagree, mages belong to frontlines and ConeOfColdTank foes!
OP: Crowd controll is abundant in DA for reason - it is meant to be heavily used. Being swarmed by wolves is not issue if you can keep them frozen/stuned/knocked down.

Don't know the opinion of the wider community, but I'd say you're putting yourself at an extremely large disadvantage without a second mage. Mages are different to Warriors and Rogues, since they essentially have more talents (Warriors would only need to take skills from one weapon style, whereas Mages can use everything), have abilities that aren't available with melee (glyphs, hexes, stuns, large AoE KD's, heals, etc).

I agree get yourself a second mage, I kinda killed my second mage option so I am stuck with only one, a second would be great and I plan to grab one second play through.

Thanks for all the responses. I think I'm finally getting used to the game's mechanics. Also, I decided to change the difficulty to easy...big difference.
Yes, crowd control is so important. A nicely placed Cone of Cold can mean win or lose.
Right now I rolling with Morrigan (Nuker), Wynne (Healer) and Leiliana(Ranger). I'm a two-handed Warrior. I usually swap Leiliana for Alistair if needed. Sten just looks retarded, I should've just killed him.
AND YES!! I got a kiss from Morrigan. All is well in the cosmos.

i'm having the most success with respeccing morrigan to a spirit healer, and giving her a multitude of stun/freeze/paralyze spells. in fact, my party is pretty overloaded with shutdown of whatever sort, while relying on melee physical (alistair twohanded, my elf rogue with backstabs) for primary damage. maybe i should call it GW balanced-way. in most of my encounters i'm using morrigan and leliana (archer) to first thin out the crowds using their shutdown abilities, so i'm only facing small chunks of foes at once.

Careful during the "Urn" quest.
Everyone freaks the hell out if you do anything BUT take a pinch of the ashes.

Yeah I know i don't have Lilenna either on that guy, the urn quest went smooth but high dragon kills me. On my new mage (cold, glyph and telekentics <3) it goes smooth most of the time, a few encounters seem harder then with my war but most of it it smooth sailing, mage also seems to have the best dialogue options I love choosing the "I can just swing around my awesome magical dick and kill everything" option in chats
xD
I will see how I handle flemeth (keeping everyone happy is so much easier when you know what gifts to give and what to say )

Limit aggro by not sending in your melee, instead get the baddies to come to you.
Pause often. Plan out the use of your skills. Keep plenty of poultices on hand. And don't put any points into combat tactics.
Morrigan's Mind Blast and the doggy's Dread Howl are handy AoE stuns. I'm playing a dual-wield rogue and I've got Alistair along.
I haven't felt the need to respec the NPCs just yet, but I have a potion in my inventory, just in case.

You can RESPECT?!?!?!?! HOW :@
Please
Also, I never have enough lyrium potions Is that bad? I've already beaten the game, but I/m playing again. The distillation agents are quite pricey

Double-click the potion and you can re-allocate attributes, skills, and talents. The default Morrigan build is weak. A good mage build can help a ton.

Mana Drain is an easy way (costs no mana, 10s recharge) to regain some mana. Death Syphon is another. There's also Rejuvenate and Mass Rejuvenate but those cost mana.
If you're still having trouble with mana, you could make a staff or armor with mana regen using the Winter Forge mod that allows you to craft any item you like.

I'm not sure what you're spending your money on, but you should have enough for distillation agents.
Oh, and in case you didn't know, putting points into Willpower increases your Mana pool.

I recommend playing through on Easy level for your first time. I did this, because I figured games are supposed to be FUN, and if I'm constantly struggling with even normal fights, it won't be much fun. On your second go, you will be much more familiar with the game and Normal should be much better. (Trust me. You will WANT to play it a second time immediately.)
