I have read thread after thread after QQ on WOW based games, money botters and bla. I have seen other forums where people who had bla amount of bla got banned for botting.
So why do people bot?
Why do you think? (I want your oppinion after reading this post people)
Sure you have gold hungry, power hungry, title hungry, bla hungry people. BUT, you also have those who have nothing to do in the game. TWIK (The War In Kryta) just started, a whole new story line, BUT according to Anet this botting business has been going on for longer then that. So, with the recent "balancing" attempts, nerfing SF, enhancing hammers (who the h*ll even uses hammers?!) and other balances, the lack of updates (ok Dhumm was pretty big and so was what 4th year update?) people get bored.
Lets think about this, why dosen't WOW have MANY or ANY (I am not sure if they do, so correct me if I am wrong) Bots? why is it popular? why is it the most talked about game, with apps for the iphone? the grinding? - no people complain about that. could it be the end game dungeons....maybe...but I will tell you something one out of the two things WOW has that guildwars does not have regular of: CONTENT UPDATES. WOW and guildwars have extensive Lore. (not so much for GW but its building cause its a "new" game...) Sure TWIK is a new content update, sure Dhumm was a new content update, but unlike Wow their is not alot of story. I know this has been said before. but Guildwars should have not released an expansion but another campaign. OR turned TWIK into a full on expansion.
So your probably raging right now, calling me names and bashing my skull in. and saying how stupid I am. But think of all the stories Guildwars has left to tell but TAKE FAR TOO LONG TO IMPLEMENT! lets list the
- ebon vangard, asura, dwarves, norn and char go on for 250 years doing what? the dwarves delve deep into the mountains chasing the destroyers but what about the other races?
- 250 year gap between games and all they have for us is a war? - is this what kick starts these new threats? new sacrifices? new allies? do we get to meet this new race before GW2?
The point of this whole post, of this massive wall of miss typing's, grammar and twisty roads is that people bot because their is NOTHING to do, everything takes so long to come out. sure Anet is on the ball with this war but soon they will have some excuse why the war hasn't progressed for 4 months.
Regina will come and say "oh GW2 has taken up much of the staff that did the content updates" and we will p*ss and moan and another 3700 people will be banned for botting.
WOW has consistent updates for a price, are you going to sit their and tell me Guild wars has the right to take their time because we pay nothing but our internet bill to play?
You can try, but I will argue this: MMORPG is a dynamic ever changing interactive world. Theirs 250 years of new missions and new places to explore. They should allow us that, theirs whole sections of this Guildwars Map left unexplored they could open up. Their are still stories left to be told.
You dont want botters? and speed clears? Give us what we want, and have wanted for what 5 years? NEW CONTENT - consistent new content. not this every 4 months stuff cause we saw how that failed.
Lets just how TWIK is the beginning of FAR more to come....
and your raging posts being....about how much I suck and how much you all hate me....and bla...
If you're going to make a point try not to write an essay make it short and to the point.
And btw bots are everywhere on WoW whether you see it or not my friend puts his character to bot overnight to fish wakes up sells the fish for an easy 500g or more on average. There are mining bots, leveling bots, gold farming bots, and of course fishing bots as already stated. New updates does not mean no botting I can guarantee you the number of bots on WoW makes the recent number of bans for botting on GW laughable.

if you feel like paying a monthly fee, i'm sure anet would happily oblige us with more content. but then again, if i have to pay a monthly fee, i won't be playing.
not to mention, there's no correlation between content updates and botting. aion is a game that's new and consistently updated, yet bots are absolutely rampant.
and just so you know: warriors use hammers. you can practically guarantee to see one in every gvg team.
People bot because they can. It's all about status and proving your better than someone with the use of text under your name and the gear you're wearing. It's unfortunate that more than 50% of those who bot end up selling their accounts for real money. If it can make a quick buck, it will be done.
Specifically, since Guild Wars has no subscription fee, it's almost impossible not to expect botters. However, ANet directly has gone forth and ban those who bot. If you know someone who bots and you didn't tell ANet and now somehow you're banned too, you're own GO RED ENGINE fault for knowing a botter and doing nothing to impose it. Anyone who did bot and willingly have to complain about losing their accounts and "hard work" can seriously GO RED ENGINE off. You were banned because you knew a botter or you did bot. Don't hide the fact.
I'm sick of these people saying "wah wah wah I didn't do anything wrong"... too bad. Read the rules next time.
Has not had a single content update since it launched.
The 2.0 update is planned for Europe at the end of this year (and is already launched in Korea).
aion also had bots the moment it launched, when there was still plenty of content to be experienced.
either way, there is no correlation between bots and content.
here's the reason why people bot: because they can, and because they can benefit from it. this is true no matter how much content is consistently added to a game; if the game can be botted and there's an incentive to do so, it will have bots.
I think that you need to take boredom out of the equation. Lets examine why Boredom is no excuse for botting in any game. If you are bored with a game and feel it has nothing to offer you, the world of gaming offers you far too many choices to use that route. To actively bot a game means you still feel that it is worth gaining things in, regardless of it being items, prestige, or a sense of completion. If this game holds little sway for you , why put forth any effort at all? Why bring your complaints to a forum devoted to that game? Why fight tooth and nail to be allowed to play after being banned? Because you enjoy it. because at the end of the day, you can say all you want about the game, the developers, the support, the players, the story and you still want something out of it. sure some of the botters were in it to make a real world profit, More the reason to believe this is no dead game. And as far as Content, though it comes slowly, we get content, perhaps TWiK should be one of MANY examples of content added to this game. Lets not forget GW isn't just one game, but 3 stand alone games, and an expansion, is that not content added? whole continents, massive numbers of skills, and as of the release of GW:EN, ways to expand the play time of the game through more titles, the HoM, and developing a story for your characters well into the next 250 years. That missing lore you are talking about, guess what, we are getting resolution by the day, and as for the following 250 years, I'm sure between GW and GW2 we will have ample opportunity to see that develop, perhaps even give people a reason to play GW long after the release of GW2. I for one have nothing to rage on you for, but I would say, be patient, from what is being released regularly now you should get more then enough answers and play time.

Cheating has nothing to do with playing a game. It is a way to NOT play the game. There are always those who want everything without working for it. There always will be in any area of life. The same people who bot or manipulate the PvP ladder will cheat in school, cheat on their taxes and, most likely, cheat on their spouses. They think they deserve more than anyone else. And, when caught, they always say it wasn't their fault.

These were all good points and very good ideas and what not. But let me re state something. whats a MMO? whats the base diffrence between a Single Offline RPG say Dungeon Seige and Guildwars? graphics? content? story? sure thats all good stuff, but a MMO is always changing, always new, your world is impacted by your choices.
I may have been wrong about botters, but the fact is, wow players never complain about being bored from what i have herd, their is always some piece of lore, some piece of the story to explore for those who are into the lore, the pve side of it all.
Content is the number one thing in all games, be it paid, online, off line or free. Content and story is what keeps us in, what keeps us coming back for more and the lack of it is what, IMO, drives us to boredom, which leads to - again IMO - botters. "it takes too long to fish" = bott, "theirs nothing to do in guildwars but title hunt" = bot.
The fact that wow has updates, hell even the free IMO world of magic MMO for the iphone has regular content updates and its free.
content content content is the point here. sure GW is NOW getting on board but look how long it took them and whos to say this wont be another disaster like the "we will have new stuff every 4 months...."

I would again debate the boredom thing, as i said before, boredom means moving on. If the content were so lacking, why stay? I think most times botting comes from a desire to have More then other people in the game, to reduce the feel of grind to achieve goals you may feel are set to far from your skill level or level of patience.
To the last bold point, after 5 years they are NOW getting on board, but as I said before, 3 games and one expansion over 5 years, and content in between, The HoM, titles, consumables, skills and the like should count for something.

I thought that when a game is no longer fun and has run out of content you simply quit. Trying to excuse botting by blaming Guild Wars' lack of frequent content updates just seems bizarre.
The only reason I could see somebody running a bot is to make fat stacks outside of the Guild Wars world. If that's the case and you got banned - accept it and move on.
The game is the game.

Yes. $100m+ a month can be quite motivating.
You are asking a team of 8 or so people to create enough founding content to cover 250 years of story until Guild Wars 2. Think before you post.

That's the "bite off more than you can chew" for ya. They shouldn't have changed their business model from "big update every 6 months, twice a year!" to "yeah, a small expansion, then nothing till our big sequel in the year 20xx!!".
