I will buy Guild Wars 2.
I love the PvE in GW, and haven't dug much into PvP. To me, the game keeps being fresh and new, and after 4 years, I'm only recently about to have played through all the content.
To all the people flaming, have you considered that your die hard knowledge about how A-net of course should shape the game may not be right for the vast majority of players? That you probably don't know the first thing about how GW2 is to play? That there most likely will be a whole new player base, who do not compare the entire GW history to GW2, and therefore will play the game with the same openness, that you had when you played GW for the first time? That GW and GW2 are different games?
If GW2 ends out to be a great game, then why not play it? None of us know, and all there is to do, is to wait. This thread is fine, but it's peoples opinion and guesses and nothing more.

We haven't gotta gameplay info. Beta still in the pipeline. This thread is totally not fair, as we never know where we will be at by the time we even have release nailed down. Because of '05-mid '06 proph, at this point, im buying. Anet will have to do some pretty diabolical shit to make me not want the sequel.

Guild Wars 2 is not the same game as Guild Wars 1, fyi. We can tell you and many of us did.

Not sure here, I'd defiantly need to upgrade my PC, though with Anet completely silent on the system reqs (which is pretty dumb if you want players to prepare their set-ups so they can actually PLAY the game when it comes out, and prepare for expansions with tweaked graphics) and I still have a whole lot to do in GW 1 first, I personally, am not a title grinder but I would like to finish leg vanquisher/guardian one day.
If they come out with a Collectors Edition, I'll probably pick that up right away, wait a few months for feedback on forums to see if GW2 is a total flop or not (see Aion), and either eBay the CE or use it.

I have no plans to buy it.
If I wanted to play WoW I'd play WoW, not GW2, which is what it will be.
The more I read about GW2 the more it seems like I'm reading about WoW.
Here's how the meeting went when they started making GW's 2:
"Wow Has guns, so lets add guns."
"WoW has a higher level cap, so let's raise the level cap."
"WoW has Persistent areas, so let's do that too."
"WoW has other playable races than Human, so lets add that."
"WoW has weather, we better add weather"
etc etc etc
Plus I like "click to move" and feel it's stupid to lose that so I can jump. Really? What am I gonna do, jump over some of them new bullets people are shooting at me?
So no I won't be buying it.

Is it only me or is there something funny about this thread being moved to the Off Topic & Absurd section. I will wait and see what GW2 has to offer and make my decision based upon that. I am leaning towards a yes but will wait and see.

definately yes. free to play=good. Ive gotten 5 years of entertainment out of the original series, from what ive seen Dub2 looks nice, game play footage looks decent.
The one thing i find infinately ironic is the amount of activity on these forumns for a game everyone seems to hate. I can name many many things im not crazy about when it comes to GW BUT i still have fun and enjoy the game.
Every day we see a post about how this game is dead, in decline, poorly managed and on and on. Why not fire your final shot across the bow and just leave the game? im not tryin to be an ass but what does everyone get out of whining over and over about the same thing (post/thread)?

You don't even know what the game is like and what will it be 12/24/36 months after the release but you are already signing a list who is not going to play it
Thumbs up and good luck with your campaign.

I am not buying it. The reason being that GW1 took too much of my time (and it is still taking). I think I will do other things than play. So no GW2 for me.

I will be getting it, yes i don't like some of the stuff Anet has done to GW, but i support Anet because they have given me GW which is an amazing game and Gw2 with all the different story line that are going to be in it, just makes me want it more....Yes the main story line is Elder Dragons...But Dragons always been a Part of GW, so if you didn't see this coming then your blind. Also Never Judge a Book by its cover, what i mean is till you really played/tested GW, don't hate it, because you might end up liking it.

I want to see more than flash animated concept art and a couple renders that could just as easily have been new models added to GW1 before I commit one way or the other. I understand that it was a necessary evil to begin work on a sequel but I'm not happy that they basically threw their hands up and abandoned this game. Yes, I understand this wasn't meant to be a forever game but the general direction they took with GW has always been puzzling to me. Over the years they got a better handle on things and it became more graphically impressive while at the same time turned into a circus. Any major city today would probably be unrecognizable to a player who quit and came back with all the crap going off 24/7 and monsters running around. If all this useless superficial garbage instead of real content/balance is any indicator of where the ship is sailing then no, probably not.

Considering Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world - after Mandarin - abandoning Spanish-speakers would be commercial suicide.

Really? WoW didn't create guns. Many, many people have wanted higher level caps. Having persistent areas seems to allow ANet to do more with the game (i.e. world events). Many, many people wanted other playable races. Weather...well, shit, why not have weather? Just because it has these generic features that are in countless other MMOs doesn't mean it's going to be anything like WoW. I mean, Aion has 4/5 of those features, does that mean GW2 is going to be anything like Aion? No.
Although I do agree that no click to move is pretty dumb.

Yes, I Think I Will Buy It...
I think the answer is yes I would buy GW2... Why? Because even if it is just another WOW, I would love that because never, EVER will pay monthly for a game no matter how good the Player Base is in WOW or any other game. I do agree that GW (And GW2) will most likely will never be able to compete with WOW on any front unless they charge monthly like Blizzard, but then GW would lose most of its players due to the fact that the only reason some people play Guild Wars is for the fact that its FREE monthly (AKA: ME!).
To The point, "Is ANET Listening", I say no... There is one thing I learned while working in the marketing division at ITW before becoming a FreeLance Web Developer/Designer:
1) Customer Satisfaction is the most important thing in any business relationship, and if you don't listen to customers (whether or not they are Buying GW2), then most likely the customers will not be satisfied, therefore deterring any potential GW2 buyers!
But overall there is one thing I know... I will stick by Guild Wars until ANET goes out of business because I know there will be a day when ANET realizes they are keeping away customers, and then hopefully turn things around. Why? Because I will have an advantage over the other new/returning players.

But, but.... look at what has happened to GW since it was a product worth buying at the beginning.
Whatever the initial release looks/plays like, the free-to-play business plan requires that they either:
a) Religiously stick to providing additional retail content at regular intervals;
or
b) tinker with the product in order to appeal to more and more people.
Guess what happened to GW1 over time? To the point where degenerate play was left unbalanced because it meant more people were playing, who were telling their friends, etc.. I will avoid GW2 for this reason and also because I am not a PvP'er and prefer the Care Bear world of GW1 instancing. GW2 will start out rosy, for sure, but I fear it will degrade over time to meet the NCSoft's shareholder's needs.

If I can get another 4 or 5 years out GW2 then all would be good. Persistent worlds don't necessarily mean you have to fight others all the time and it is fun running into people in far off locations.
