Baldur's Gate update
gog.com has Baldur's Gate available now.

Guess I can finally throw away my disks that don't work with Vista.

And it works fine on Vista. If you have Vista then when you are finished downloading and proceed to setup, there will be a delay of several minutes (while that idiot Vista works its slow way through the commands) before the actual setup begins. So don't panic and start clicking multiple times on the command.

while I played the bejeezus out of both BG's and both expansions, for those who would like to see where GW's roots are, and those who have an interest in D&D / Forgotten Realms, this is $10 well spent.
And I believe the very first quest here is the inspiration for KillTenRats.com, if memory serves.

Shouldn't it be KillFiveRats.com then? There are 5 rats and 1 or 2 cats in Reevors storehouse, not 10. Also, I wouldn't classify that as the first quest. You'd have to ignore a bunch of people for that to be the case. Might still be a possible reference though.
It's a shame they're not putting out BG2 with it as well. The first game is much much better with a mod that runs it on the engine of the second (not to mention a lot of other awesome mods like the NPC Project and Unfinished Business require them). At least it's good to get more people interested.

$10 for BG + expansion pack? That's...
A lot. In Poland, you can pay about $20-22 and get:
* Baldur's Gate
* Baldur's Gate expansion pack
* Baldur's Gate 2
* Baldur's Gate 2 expansion
* Icewind Dale
* Icewind Dale: Heart of the Winter
* Icewind Dale: Heart of the Winter - Trials of the Luremaster
* Icewind Dale 2
* Planescape: Torment
* Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader
Seriously, I liked Gog.com at first - all the classics cheap, online.. but most of them can be bought here for 2/3 the price anyway.

The gog.com advantage is you get a version that will run on XP, Vista and Windows 7 with all the extras, a game speed control and no DRM. They explain how and why they started this in the PCGamer interview. http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/09/24/go...just-bollocks/
I own the original game disks but they don't run on Vista, so this addition to their catalog was exciting. I was hoping for BG2 for the next release, but it seems to be Planescape: Torment.

Hah - there's a coincidence. I whizzed through BG then wanted more, so I dug out my copy of PS:T and am currently awesoming my way through that.
Hope GOG use something like Ghostdog's various fixes and the ubiquitous widescreen mod. Planescape:Torment in 1920x1080 is superb - with reservations about the UI size ^_^
http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/planescape_torment $9.99
(addendum) Nope, no WS mod or others, but their forum is on the ball: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/planesca...patch_and_more

Well they don't use any third party mods per say, but I had no trouble running mods like the widescreen mod and various fixes on Planescape:Torment I purchased from Gog.com.
Mods work as they should, which is not always the default case when a game publisher company decides to release their own versions of various games. I'm looking at you, Steam!

Should point out that Icewind Dale plus Heart of Winter is up now - no surprise there
