Thread necroing
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/w...136988p13.html
notice the march 2006 - june 2009 necro
There recently (in the last few months) also was a 2005 - 2010 or so one, but I can't find it anymore
Does anyone else have examples of some epic thread necroing?

Don't encourage them - someone will only go out and necro the earliest thread they can find (which is basically Inde* saying "first".) Then they'll get huffy because they got a temp ban for defiling our revered history.
*arguably...

do not necro old threads, if you have to go back YEARS then the information is probably out of date.

I remember one from a couple months ago. The initial thread was about the "new" Sorrow's Furnace update, thread ended Oct. 2005. Revived end of last month. Not gonna get much more epic a necro than that.

We already did this
We went back and found the very first thread and bumped the hell out of it, Inde too, but then deleted it or something :P

Ive got a question for you guys complaining about thread necroing.
Why are there double standards on the forums here?
1. "Noobs" being flamed at for not using the search function on the top of forums because they started a new thread instead of posting in an older already exisiting one.
2. "Noobs" who got burned by people in the 1st example... they use search and post in an older already existing thread... and get flamed again for necroing a thread.
Im not talking about the obvious ones about outdated sales and buy threads, but like the one a few posts above this one where someone posts in a thread about Sorrows Furnace... if he has a legit question regarding the old changes that happened and is asking about how it was before the addition of SF I personally dont see a problem with that and I sometimes dont understand the mods for locking such threads either.
Who says that threads MUST stay dead once it passes X amount of days without a post before no one is permitted to make new posts in them any more?
Ive seen other forums where mods are actually editing the posts with complaints about "Look at the date noob, this post is old. Close the thread" with mod messages on the lines of "We decide when it is time for a thread to close, carry on.".

it mostly has to do with relevance....in the sorrows furnace example, some one saying 'oh its easy just take heroes' is way out of date, while someone adding to say, a thread about armor glitches (which still exist) may be more to the point.
(and yeah ventari's has a few extra guidelines about necroing)

The problem is that there is a very large gray area between those two extremes. There is nothing wrong with necroing a thread to add new and relevant information. We just ask that people check the date of threads before they reply to them and ask themselves if their post really justifies resurrecting an ancient text.
