damn the 1980 lights... lol. and i remember growing up with fresh baked bread in the air aswell. i am italian so my kitchen was always on overtime while i grew up. there were four boys. and i grew up helping out as i was the youngest. sad thing for those other three is... mom never let them in the kitchen so they can't even boil water now. ha ha ha...
and pwnd dont worry i never burn ish. even when i'm drunk. every good italian chef/baker has a good hearty glass of wine while they cook. its to calm the nerves so they dont break ish... lol

BLOPS? Been playing that on my 360 with my buddy. We were being epic and winning.
I'm afraid to bake cause I'm sure I would burn the place down.

you sound like my sister (with good reason--we used to put 'tomain' as her middle name, she had difficulties boiling water)....though with help (and pushes from the right person), she has yet to kill anyone (or make them too ill).
I love to bake, I love to cook, and yes, I love to eat .....I dont believe that I would be as overweight as I am if I werent such a good cook (and same for hubby--he likes my food too)......just wish I had the space to do it in--my kitchen is so small you can barely have 2 people in it at the same time! It was not made for cooking--but for using the microwave.
oh well, perhaps a nice big house with a real kitchen is in my future (I can hope, pray and beg).....

Okay, well I can bake and cook a little bit... I just try to avoid it if at all possible. Would rather not burn the house down and stuff.

Wow... that is quite possibly the most worthless thing I have ever seen. Anyone who buys one is a complete dumbass.

Baking is actually pretty easy to learn, so long as you follow the recipes exact. Since it is a science, after all
It's when you get good at it and learn how it all works and start experimenting that things can get tricky. I'm definitely an experimental baker.
As far as cooking goes, I see recipes as guidelines only.

That is exactly why I like cooking, unless you are totally anal, each time you prepare a dish it is a little different than the previous time.

If I'm given instructions that are laid out step by step, 9 times out of 10 I can do it.

yep, so can my hubby....he can follow recipes pretty good--its when we are missing something and he need to (gasp) substitute that problems arise--though he has gotten pretty good at cooking the in past year or so (withOUT a recipe).
My mom never used recipes--she was a chemist and used to add a bit of this some of that---type cooking, sometimes it was good, and sometimes not.
And yeah, at baking you had to follow the rules--certain things go together in certain amounts, you could play with the no essential ingredients.
I rarely follow recipes, and when I have one I use it as just an idea of what stuff to put into a dish--'oh this one suggests thyme with that' or 'that one says havarti is a good match' type stuff....and yeah my dishes never come out quite the same way twice (I would NOT make a good chef because of that).

I definitely will need recipes for awhile. Following directions I can do. Improvising when making food? Not so much... I can improvise with the best of them on other things but not cooking.
Had some nice storms just roll through. Here is to hoping for more later in the day. I love working during a storm.

Those storms kept me up all night, and I really was in need of sleep. Blech.
And yep, I'm one of those "add stuff until it tastes right" cooks, so not only is nothing I cook ever exactly the same twice, but it's a real pain trying to tell someone else how to cook something how I make it
