I don't know if others here have read this book series, but it seems to me like parts of the story in this game is loosely bassed on The Song of ice and fire book series.

Not that it's a bad thing (actually it would be a very good thing), but I'm just seing certain things that make me think of the books, and I was wondering if others saw some things.

Anyone?

I've read and reread all those books, and I love them. I love GW too. However I must say there was never a time that I thought "This reminds me of George R. R. Martin's work".

Yeah me neither. And I've listened to the unabridged recordings (I highly recommend them, great to listen to books on a long commute) of all 3 books twice so far.

What aspect of the storyline do you find parallels with?

Hmm, Well when I said Lossely based, I really meant losely based.. More like certain ideas taken from there.

The one thing that comes to mind is the great northern wall.. Also one of the npc's in game is called Varis (not the same spelling as the eunuch I know).

The most obvious reference I saw to the books was the beyond the wall quest or whatever its called in pre-searing Ascalon. He asks you to go out and find Ben "Wolfson" the master ranger who is missing north of the wall. Just like Ben Stark the missing ranger north of the wall in the books. Also the direwolf is the sigil of the Stark family, so I definately noticed an influence

I think another source of inspiration is "Magic the Gathering" card game. The spells all sound like the spells in the cardgame (ESPECIALLY their description, and you have to have a good combination that work together.

Yes, that's another one I noticed. I knew there was another reference I saw that I couldn't remember. Thanks for pointing that out.

Read the books, waiting for the RPG game. Didn't think of it. I was actually thinking more of Warcraft references while playing the game.

The dwarven area feels kinda similar, the charr look like the Taurens, makes me wonder if their whole evilness for destroying the city at the beginning while making them one of the weakest enemies was intentional. :P

I found another OVERT reference to A Song of Ice and Fire. There is a maguma (a centaur, looks like a man riding a horse) named "Drogo Greatmane" in Reed Bog. Please recall that Drogo's hair was never cut, and was hung about with many bells.

One other thing to note is the collector Varis in the game collects spider legs, when he is nicknamed the spider in the books.

Ha! I loved these books. I'm gonna keep a look out for references in game.

They need a character that talks like that wizard guy that kills three people for Arya. His name is on the tip of my tongue, but unfortunetly I type with my fingers.
That character had an awesome way of talking.

Just started to watch the new HBO tv series Game of Thrones, and when I see the people in it and their harsh ways it kinda envisions me of how Norn lives would be. Basically all crimes are punished by death and a father would even kill his son if he deserted from battle. In a way it makes me think of Jora and how she handled her brother Svanir it at the end.

I haven't watched the full episode yet so I might be wrong, this is just the first impressions I got from it.

Hey guys,

With the Game of Thrones being a smash at HBO and a new Hobbit movie in the works, the time is ripe for some great scifi and fantasy books to enter the world of television and movies as well. What do you guys think? What books do you want to see become movies in the near future?

For my part, I want to see Glen Cook's "The Black Company," Lian Hearn's "Tales of the Otori," Kim Stanley Robinson's "Red Mars," Greg Bear's "Blood Music," and Trudi Canavan's "Magician's Guild." I love them all so much! Oh yeah, and of course a Halo movie, as long as it's good.

I'm afraid I have no book series to add to this discussion (all of my reading is non-fiction), but I'll take movies/tv series coming directly from scifi/fantasy books ANY DAY over all this comic book crap polluting the movie screens........seriously, it's getting out of hand

Film: Asimov, The Caves of Steel; Clarke, Rendevous with Rama

Miniseries (has to be HBO/Showtime): Simmons, Hyperion (six two hour episodes, each covering a single character's story)

I honestly have no idea what the people over at incgamers are thinking. Do they not read the classics of the genre? I have many books that I prefer to the above, but they are the best available ones given the media in question.

Anyone that has the balls to make The Caves of Steel and do it right is going to end up with a seriously hot IP on their hands. Unusually for Asimov, Baley and Daneel are very relatable and marketable characters.

If there were a Dragonlance series, the guy that played Viserys in aGoT could instantly find quality work playing Raistlin Majere.

I read some Asmov when I was younger, but I think I was too young to appreciate it, I should proabbly give it another try.

Weber's Honor Harrington series - great characters and lots of space battles.
Eric Flint's 163x series - alternate history
Barbara Hambly's Darwath or Windrose series, or her Benjamin January mysteries

and while not strictly sci-fi or fantasy, I'm surprised they haven't made a tv show based on Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series.
