There is a lot of paperwork to do when you go visit a new doctor or your insurance changed. Or your address. Or anything really. I think they do it so you don't realize how late the doctor is.

It is the American dream. We pay people to hopefully pay for when something bad happens. If nothing bad happens then you are paying for the peace of mind I guess. But then even when something does happen it is a battle with the insurance to get them to cover what they are supposed to. Also why some insurance companies drop people if the people get in to many accidents and such. They don't actually care about the people, they care about their profit. And if someone is constantly using them for lots of money, they drop them. Consequently why my sister doesn't have great insurance. She has had a fair amount of issues the past few years and no "good" insurance company will insure her because she is "high risk." Stupid. They try to avoid doing what they were created for.

yes, insurance companies are there for the profit---NOT the people they insure! They should be not-for-profit companies, then perhaps they would care more about those they are supposed to instead of those that get money when they do well.

I remember when I first had to get insurance (parents ran out), I had an ok deductible and it was a bit high (was 25) but still do-able....had them for about 3 years when the rates finally went to a point I couldnt pay (was about $1k/month) and a huge deductible ($3k)....when I figured out how much I had to pay before they did ---it was more than I earned that year! Yep...dropped them. (this was back when minimum wage was only ~$3 and the job I had wasnt paying much more than that).

Insurance, what a joke.

Just completed the round trip from just north of Kansas City, Mo to Memphis, TN. Rolled out of town about 9:00 last night, dodging severe storms along the way. Got hammered with a good downpour for 10 to 15 miles. Glad I wasn't driving. Niether the son nor I could clearly see the road for more than a brief moment or two. 15 miles per hour makes for a slow trip when your are talking 450 miles one way. Rolled back in just a little after 8:00 this evening. A few sprinkles coming back as the severe storms went south of us.

pwnd-When a couple has 2 different insurance policies, both covering both people, the insurance companies try to decide which insurance is the "primary" insurer. Way back when-I think it was decided by which person's birthday fell earlier in the year. That person's policy paid first then the second person's policy cleaned up some of the leftovers. There was also a time when each person could cover themselves cheaper than one covering both. Premiums and deductables were lower for each individual than for the family.

The thing in this case being, the wife's policy is the only policy covering both of us.

wow, glad you got back safely---I have been in those kind of storms (remember when my sister was moving to florida and we got hit outside of Valdosta GA by one, and then got hit by a stupid driver (he had open alcohol in his car too)...couldnt see much past the end of the car, very scary stuff).

Yes insurance companies have strange rules on how they make those decisions. And yeah, back in the day individual was a LOT cheaper than family (and BOTH are still cheaper than employee + spouse---which makes NO sense since employee + spouse and kids covers more people as well as employee + kids--these should be more than just you and your spouse...but thats another topic for soap boxes). When I first got married we each had our own insurance and neither of us was covered by the others, just couldnt afford to do that.

Yes the insurance situation really REALLY needs an overhaul here, their purpose has really been obscured (or in some cases, completely lost).

Seems redundant to have 2 insurance policies both covering the same 2 people. But maybe that is just my thinking. Wife and I will eventually decide who has the best insurance policy and go with that. I guess I could see it if it was mandatory to take the works insurance policy, then I could see it on both maybe. Though I would do just individual then. But again, that is me and I'm probably missing some of the details.

I have driven through downpours like that before... Definitely makes the trip less fun and more stressful. Glad everyone got back safe.

We are getting some rain here now, which is okay with me. It is keeping it a bit cooler.

having 2 policies (if you can afford them) is a good idea, sometimes one wont cover some things and the other will. Sometimes you are left with a hefty bill which the other will pick up....and then sometimes, neither will cover it (but will put it towards your deductible!

when you have kids having more than one policy will be great. It all depends on what kind of coverage they give.

no rain here, but hot again today. (though I slept thru most of it, dang allergies kept me up most of last night).

I have on insurance, and we get it when we are born (it's basically how much money you are worth when you die and it goes to your wife/husband or family).

I still don't understand why insurance is such a big part of many things around the world it just baffles me how little people trust people.

we are talking about health insurance, not life insurance.

Health insurance is now required in the USA---and if you have ever been to the doctor in the usa you will understand why its needed. My last gp (general practitioner) cost almost $200/visit and then you only got to see her for about 5 minutes. Spending any time at the ER will set you back a few thousand dollars (not including any services you might have whilst visiting).....so just say, breaking a bone and having to get it set will set you back a cool $5k (you have to pay not only the hospital, but the radiologist who spent 2 minutes confirming that yes you did indeed break that bone, meds, etc....). Heck just riding in an ambulance will cost you any where from $250-$1000!
Thats a lot of spare cash to have lying about.
I think my sister-in-law said it cost about $10k to have her last kid at the hospital and they only stayed for the day (imagine having a c-section and paying for all those costs on top of that and a few days in the hospital!) (yes her insurance covered most of it).
Wont even go into the costs of extensive illnesses--or ones (like yours azzer) that they cant diagnose.....lots of insurance companies used to have a max they would pay out ($1 or 2 million), I know people who reached those limits, and then had their insurance company drop them (and no other would pick them up), imagine having to pay for something like chemo out of your own pocket!!

and its all part of a bigger scam. Hospital raise costs because we have tons of people who dont have the cash to pay for their visits--so the rest of the tax payers have to pay for that as well as having your cost of insurance increase.

Guess that kinda makes sense. I still see it as wasting some money though, since you are paying for two insurance policies for a family or employee+spouse, instead of just paying for one of those. But like you said, some insurance companies cover one thing but not another.

Medical bills here are stupid expensive. Definitely makes me want to avoid going there whenever possible.

Here in our country you just have to pick the right hospital. Others charge ridiculously high fees though there's really nothing special to the service they give. Good things there are public hospitals that has good enough service and reasonable price

Definitely not the same as here. The hospital or doctor you go to has to fall under their coverage. If they choose not to cover the hospital or doctor you want to see, you either pay the full price out of pocket or you find one they do. And forcing everyone to have insurance isn't going to fix the ridiculously high prices.

Well I was trying to be nice. But ya, you are correct there. Definitely awful at how grossly overpriced everything is.

Wife's parents and her grandma stopped by today for lunch. They were making their way back home from visiting Springfield. So we had a nice lunch with them. Wife has applied for a few jobs now, hoping to hear back from some of them! So a pretty good day.

think I may need to find my acupuncturist again (cant take any of the meds for it---non-drowsy means NO Sleep until it wears off, which can take up to 2 days

So far so good I would say. We got the pool cover pulled back, which was huge. My dad has a band camp he runs all this week so we won't be able to fix it then. We also have to have the bottom of the pool repainted, so that is happening this weekend. Since we drained the pool it will be easier to put the track back up since we don't have to deal with water and can get underneath the track. So we should be doing that in the next couple weeks.

It is raining today. Pouring more like it actually. So much for going for a run right now. Oh well.
