Glad to hear she got her new furnace in. Too cold not to have one!
Looking forward to above freezing temps so we can get the cars washed. With the snow and ice there is lots of salt on the cars that we need to remove.

Apparently we are supposed to hit 40's next week. I'm not sure if I believe it or not...

get out the swim trunks and sun tan oil!! its a heat wave
seriously, we have been below freezing for more than 2 weeks, would be nice to see 'normal' temps for a change....I am liking the lack of snow...they can keep it where it is now for a few weeks. (friends in boise say they are really lacking in the precip department so send it there for a while, we have plenty!!)

I'm sure we will see students in t-shirts and shorts when it hits 40. Of course we see some of that now... Had a student who was wearing it get mad at me today because he was cold and I don't allow him to have his coat in homeroom. (Coats are not allowed in any classroom or the lunch room at any time so it is a school rule) I told him to wear more clothes. He was not happy.
It is currently 1 out. First morning above 0 in a while!

woot for positive numbers in the am!!
yeah, my hs wouldnt allow coats either--and many of the rooms 'lacked' proper insulation---the science rooms were the worst, the lecherou--I mean teachers would hand out sweatshirts for classtime since there was no way those rooms were even 60 let alone the 65 (required by law)....and sitting still for 50+ minutes mindlessly trying to stay awake taking notes is not really conducive to staying warm

If I can sit in my room in a dress shirt and slacks and feel fine, so can they. They just look for any excuse to bring their coats to that class so they don't have to go back to their locker before leaving school. My room is generally between 65-70 degrees.

that is plenty warm for kids....just wear a sweater, geez. (but yeah not having to go back to your locker if its on the other side of the school is a big plus I can see too--especially if you have to then run to catch your bus before it leaves---didnt have those issues in my hs, while I did take the bus, it didnt even get to the school for another 25 minutes after classes ended, as well as the school only having 3 halls --you could walk the length of it in about 10minutes at a slow pace.....actually if I left school right after the bell I would make it home WALKING before the bus made it to my bus stop!)
nice to have temps above zero in the am ....hit 20 yesterday...with a possible ....above freezing tomorrow!!! /faint! I found the suntan oil...looking for my folding chair ----

Snow here is fast turning into water and mud puddles. The bank clock says 45 degrees. Feels pretty dog gone good.
I am glad I am not living on the east coast right now. Time for power companies to start burying their power lines. Sucks to be without electricity this time of year, actually, anytime of the year.

made it over freezing (finally)...but not out of the cold just yet--predictions of negatives for tomorrow night (again)...though they say the snow will miss us this time /faint...but hit us on the weekend instead (yeah go figure too good to be true)...
not much melting here--unless the sun hits it pretty hard otherwise think next week will be the beginning of the thaw (about bloody time too).

They have plenty of time to go to their locker. The school is small enough and they get out 3 minutes before elementary does. So the buses have to wait on them. They just look for any excuse to break rules.
There was melting here yesterday. We got above freezing and the sun melted some of it. Back to below freezing today and snow on the way. Dang.

so did we all get something nice for our sweeties yesterday????
I got a gift for mine that he really did appreciate ---a new ice scraper and some heet for the car (he broke the other one and we ran out of the heet)...he brought me home a piece of some ice cream turtle pie, yum! (we shared).

Got my wife a card and an insulated hotpink travel mug. You would have sworn I had given her a million dollars. Her work allows closed drinking cups, completely sealable, in her work area. The old one had lost its little lid, so it would have been a violation if she had been caught with it.

sometimes its not the 'pushed' items (flowers, chocolate, etc) that are the best gifts (though flowers would have been nice----).....but the thought that goes into the gifts and thus the gifts (with that extra thought) that are the most appreciated.

She is not the flower type of person. Artificial flowers are just that, artificial. She does not like the idea of killing a blossom just to look at for a few days, and she leaves me in charge of the live plants we have. On our 5th wedding anniversery, I sent flowers to her at work. She said thanks, but not to do the flower thing anymore. She has a couple of vases of roses, one of our sons and his wife got her. She would like to get rid of them, but because the last bunch was given to her just before the son's wife passed away, she can't make herself do it.
Probably more info than you wanted to read, but that is how she is.

well, flowers have a short life even if you leave them on the plant, so shortening that by a week or two isnt that extreme (plus a few flowering plants will actually bloom more if you prune the first bunch of flowers--makes for healthier plants), so I dont have much of an issue with it. So you could buy a nice bush of live plants to plant in your yard.

A couple of flower gardens are in the plans this spring. There are 100 year old "Naked Ladies" planted along the east side of the house. We are talking about a 3 ft wide flower garden down each side of the sidewalk that runs from near the street to the front porch, with 2 half barrels of multi-colored tulips next to the porch. On each side of the covered porch, she would like trelleses with climbing roses. She wants to try to figure out how to use our 4 shepards hooks with hanging plants around the bird bath. We have 3 huge Blue Sprues in the front yard, one of which needs to come down. One side of it is totally dead and the other side is in and around the power line and cable line that runs to the house. Pros want $1000 to take it down and haul off the wood. Trying to figure out a cheaper way and not rip down the lines.
Plans in place, we shall see how it goes.

sounds wonderful!
Yeah taking down trees (especially those that have become 'attached' to power lines) is not an easy (or cheap) thing to do, I would see if there is another pro who would do it for less (tell them their competition is doing it for $800 can you beat that deal?? and see if that works).
so you handed her the plans for the plans?--that works for me too.

Welp thank goodness it is a long weekend. I have apparently come down with another cold... Which is extremely rare for me. Usually I get sick once and then I'm done. Guess it wanted revenge this time. Glad we have today off to give me another day to rest...
