dueled an assassin, he was using temple strike (daze and blind) and using a vs all setup i NEARLY got got him...he killed me as i was using final thrust which would have ended it...he won by id say...30 life? second match i was under -15 and still almost won, third match he got me by about 90-100 life.

he made a warrior and i beat that with about 175 life left

edit: this was with a sword setup without any ripose skills and only one blocking stance

due to some of the concerns about this becoming a "build war" it could also be taken into consideration that all of these rules be discarded and new rules put in place, however these new rules would be build restrictive...
we could have 2, maybe 3 builds per weapon setup, these builds would be the only builds allowed to compete...and each would be balanced, so they may offer a different form of combat, however not an unfair advantage (ie somone with a pure damage striker vs a pure ripose build).

this would make it alot like dodge ball because everyone would have evenly matched skills.

anyone else think that this is a good idea? or just stick with the free builds governed by rules?

The theme guild sound good, just too bad I don't play any melee class.
If you ever do an open event. Call on the forum, you might well attract some people.

By the way, you make it sound like it's mostyl 1v1 matches, Am I wrong understanding it that way?

On that part, did you ever tought about allowing Assassin/dervish primaries but restricting the weapon choice to sword/axe/hammer? That should make Assassin and derv posible without dagger chain or scuthe dmg.

well the thing is to me, if you wanted to make an axe assassin, what would be the point beyond the looks? it would have to be a Asn/Warrior and it would be using warrior skill, just have lower armor and damage reduction...so it seems it rather would be more of a handicap...same goes for the drev.

i am soon(today) getting nighfall...iv had prophesies for over 2 and a half years lol...

i am working on builds right now, each bases on what version of the game the warrior comes from, be it prophesies, factions or nightfall. their will be 3 different classes for which version they are from, and for each class they will have a sub class of sword/axe/and hammer.

i am also investigating the possibilities of allowing spears/bows under the stipulation as they are to be used only under normal attack. these can be used as an opening attack...i was thinking about this as the posibilites for a tvt situation where the two teams are closing in on eachother, this would allow you to give some opening damage before the battle turns close quarters. as you can imagine there will be counter skills put into the builds for this...some characters will have the ability to charge in quickly to reduce the duration ofwhich they are exposed to the ranged attacks, some will have blocking skills to help them reduce damage via blocks. each build will have a different system ofwhich it will be doing its damage, however each class will be balanced to where one will not be overpowered so the fights will be fair, even cross class battles (sword v hammer)

my objective to this is to mimic a real battle to an extent, obviously your not going to make it like a mid centry simulater, however it can have tactics drawn from this time period aswell as ingenious ways to put the newly avalable ranged weapons to use. as you can imagine this will require builds such as warrior/rangers and warrior/paragons, im also looking into allowing assassin/warriors, drev/warriors, and paragon/warriors...these builds are not even started and the concept is still just on the table, i have partnered up with my friend IRL, he and i are working on the plans for everything and i will be sure to keep everyone updated on the progress we make

Assassins and dervishes have defense skills in their attribute lines. Critical defenses is going to be more defense than your extra armour.

there is currently a 75% chance that i will come up with a drev, and assassin build, aswell as a paragon, right now i am looking at making this a big team work based system, though normal characters (the warriors, drevs and assassins) will be able to compete 1v1, the paragon willnot.
however the paragon is going to be a key player in the 1v1 matches.
he will only have one skill to deal damage with (spear swipe)...this will be his personal defense skill...his role will be the battle commander. he will use shouts and echos to help support the fight while not directly getting into the combat himself...along with a drev build i am working on this looks to be a very interesting and team work based system

i have a basic assassin setup now, he will be used as a quick striker, he can deal alot of damage quickley but after his frist attacks he will be better off retreating out of the fight...this character is meant to be used as a battle leader killer, however the battle leader will be able to hold his own against him...this character will have the ability to shadow step (aura of displacement)

This seems like it may be interesting. So let me see if I'm understanding this right. You're proposing that "realistic" characters be given several set skill bars, and the game is based on battle tactics, and field awareness as opposed to imba spells, and gimmicks. Will there be any kind of referee to monitor the players? A paragon could easily carry [[word of healing] and get away with it. But yea, maybe I"ll send you a PM...

healing skills will not be very easy to get away with...there is no healing what so ever in the matches...so if you see someones life go up...then you know somethings up...you can at any point ask people to ping their skills...also watch the activations that are being cast by people...if you think somone is casting illegal skills then call a rest period to the match, or a match reset and check all skills via ping...there will be no builds to hide so no one should have a problem with pinging the bar

right now my friend and i are working out a basic set of 3 warrior builds to start out with...as time goes on we will branch the basic 3 off into 3 different sword, axe and hammer builds, a total of 9, though all balanced, but each unique. we will also be making a paragon setup to start out with...the only thing here limited will be skills that can be used. a paragon for say if they chose to want to be a close quarters fighter may choose a warrior skill setup. then he would be able to compete on the front lines, however he will not be able to use skills that the battle commander will have...its one or the other.
