Costume contest....fail. Standard armor non-matching with a random mask wins over 100% original full-theme costumes. Male winner was an ele with tyrian armor and a grasping mask...female winner was a necro in elite cabal and a zombie mask...I wear an armor set I don't normally wear that goes perfectly with the werewolf mask and don't even make top 3. Sure this might be a QQ but that contest was either bought or rigged beforehand. Friends helping friends. GG.
And while this may not hold much water to many of you, and I don't blame you one bit for it, I'd feel the same way if I were a spectator of the contest rather than a participant. Someone who obviously put some time and effort into a costume being shoved aside for some noob in common armor and a random event mask is shameful. Sorry, but I was actually looking forward to this event. I had a necro costume already made up but when I got the werewolf mask, I immediately thought of the Primeval gauntlets with the claws, and the details that could very well be seen as unkempt gray wolf's hair. So I went with that. I had people commenting on it all day until the costume contest where I was snubbed in favor of a generic necro with a mask.
Here, from the original post:
Quote:
Things the Judges will look for:
* Scare factor
* Theme i.e of a certain monster.
* Orginality
* Effort
|
Putting a grasping mask on a standard tyrian armored elementalist isn't original, didn't take much effort, doesn't show any theme, and isn't very scary. Putting a zombie mask on Elite Cabal armor doesn't do this either. The 3rd place winner for the female, Enduring Harmony, actually had a theme going. Monk scarecrow. It fit, and the theme was there. Seemed pretty scary too. Who'd have thought a monk could play a scarecrow so well? I'd have been fine if s/he won. 2nd place was a necro with an ice crown. Colors didn't even match.
Putting a mask on a regular character doesn't constitute a costume. Putting a Mask on a character with armor that fits the theme, and that character doing what they can to fit the theme in terms of emotes...dying an armor set to match OR EVEN going out to purchase a new set of armor to match that mask is effort. Sorry, but this event was failtastic. I can't wait for the pictures of the winners to hit Guru so everyone can see how ridiculous the judging was.

Very fun event! First time I showed for this, and I regret missing them before. I got a couple pics of the pumpkin and ghost line ups. But I bet others have better.
Nearly had an unded Bone Dragon from the Joke telling contest, made second place. Aw well, kudos to the one who beat me.
And A11Eur0, the female costume was good. Arguably about the male, but it wasn't about mixing-matching or being original, it was about looking good. And they did have good outfits.
I got some pictures of the after-party too. I'll put them up later (or get beaten to doing it by someone else).

Thanks for all that participated. Sorry if not everyone could be a winner, and I assure you, no rigging was involved. Everything went fair, if sometimes a bit chaotic. We had only limited staff, and the Queen had not had sleep for 4 days. So if my vision was a little off during any of the contests: Cheer up! This was a party, and we hope half of the people that attend are there for the fun, not just the prizes. And also, a lot of the glorious losers also got invited to the after party.
Regina popped in for 5 minutes, or so I'm told. I didn't get an word in though. Gaile also dropped by. Turns out she had cunningly remained stealthy for quite a while till the event was over. We are very happy she managed to attend.
Thanks to Bladeradio for their great support, and everyone else who helped, you know who you are. And thanks Daniel, Tesla, Wolfie and Solo!

A11Eur0 ,
In the question of the male elementalist, his armour was meant to represent a Grasp, he achieved it very well. He had rock patches similar to the mask, and a sparkling/stoney dye combo.
You may not be happy about it, and im sad you feel that way. But when it gets down to it only 6 people could of won, out of a full district.
Regards
~Frozenwind.

Thanks for the Kudos Azazel. I was sure you'd beaten me in the joke contest. Still, for my second mini, a bone dragon is really ... perfect for my necro

Um what? Not about being original? Phht...read the OP. It's a COSTUME contest, not a "best looking dude with a random mask" contest.

Hey Daniel and Malafide!
Great success on the hour i managed to attend! That was amazing! And this is missing Pumpking bobbing, Wicker ritual and the best bits of the event! Thanks to the gift givers for my prizes, and to all the staff that made this good. Without you this wouldnt have gone so well.
As to you A11 Eur0, Its how the costume works with the mask. We all have our own opinions, and if you think this event has failed because of one mistake in the costume contest, well. What can I say? Im actually looking forward to see the winner.
DANIEL AND MALAFIDE 08!
