Default Trivia Contest!!! Win Free Monies!!

Hey all of the Guru community! First off, if this is posted in the incorrect location, please move it to the proper one.

I'm wanting to host a trivia contest, open to anyone. Guild Wars related questions, the first person to type the answer will be the winner. It will be hosted in my guild hall. After thought, I've decided to screw the entry fee, and just reward money (between 1k-5k) based on difficulty of question. There are some rules, of course, which I will gladly explain now:

1) Anyone is eligible to play, as long as you pay up your 1k up front (I will not guest invite you without first meeting somewhere to receive payment).

2) Your answers must be typed quickly, and accurately enough so I can understand the answer. Your answers must also be COMPLETE. For instance, if the answer to a question is "Droknar's Forge", simply saying Droks, will not suffice. The entire name must be said. Misspellings are allowed, as long as I can understand the gist of what you are trying to say. If the misspelling is absolutely horrible, and it seems like it was just typed quickly to get the answer in first, I will not accept it. They do not have to be capitalized if they are NPC names or outpost names.

3) You are allowed ONE guess per question, no spamming random answers until yours is correct.

4) Questions will be about ANYTHING Guild Wars related, from lore, to heroes, to skills, to locations, including content that is no longer, or was never implemented in the game.

5) Some questions have multiple answers, to answer these, you must give all of your answers on one line, separated by a comma, or "and" or an ampersand (&).

6) I guess that's all for rules, if I think of anymore I'll post.

The contest will probably be this weekend, Saturday evening or night east coast USA time, perhaps 10:00 P.M (7:00 pacific time). I hope people are interested!

Disclaimer: I have the right to not accept any answer given due to being incomplete, or spelled too badly to understand. Whiners will be ignored, persistent whiners will have guest invite revoked.

One final notice, if there isn't enough interest, I will probably just cancel it, or postpone it until the following weekend. Hope people are up for it!

My IGN is Silence And Despair, message me in game if you have any questions!!

Yeah, I hope this works better. Free chances for monies! I'll even pay your guest invite fee!

Doesn't Guru have some rule about selling Lottery Tickets or "Chances to win"? Or is that just in Ventari? Might want want to check the rules on that...

This thread was posted in PUGs and Grouping, and then moved here, but not deleted, nor have I received an infraction. I suppose its okay, just sad that I haven't really had much interest in it. An Armbrace really doesn't interest anyone?

I'm all for a trivia game, but I think its the 1k fee and the sketchy chance of winning thats turning people off to it. I always encourage more open community activities such as trivia games, but you gotta present it in a way that will get their attention and pull them away from their grindfests

A single trivia event with an entry fee might not be worth the time for some people to try and get it set up. Meeting you in game before hand and then during the trivia takes some planning and might be to much of a hurdle for those interested. You might want to see if you can partner with one of the other parties going on around this time to hold your contest. Or you could show up during one of the regular radio shows and see if any of the people there are interested. It might also help if you introduce yourself first and get to know some of the people in attendance. Wariness is an unfortunate, but reasonable, side effect of the anonymity of online games and communities.

I figured 1k was pretty cheap, I can't just GIVE away an Armbrace, even with the entry fee, I lose tons of money for it. I held a 1v1 contest a year ago in an old alliance, there was an entry fee for that too, and I had tons of interest. I figured there'd be no difference. As far as being anonymous, I'm far from that. Most people here at least know OF me, or know me to some extent. From my old Underworld threads or my eagerness to help, people know of me. It's not the end of the world for me if I cant get the contest going, I just figured it'd be something people would love to do. I'm incredibly laid back, meeting me before a guest invite is simply formality, I wasn't 100% serious about that. I'd like if people would wanna do that, but if they wanna come to my guild hall to pay me, that's just as simple. As far as radio shows, I don't do those, never listened to any of them, don't know how to. The last thing you mentioned was other parties, what other parties?

Thanks for the input though guys, I sort of expected a lack of interest, but 1k for a chance at an Armbrace seems pretty reasonable if you ask me. I think the issue is the fact that it's trivia. People don't know enough about the game to participate in it, they don't care. My questions range from events that happen in particular cutscenes, more specifics like certain damage types pets cause before evolving. Most don't know that stuff, I do. There's also unimplemented, or deleted content questions, stuff that never existed, but is on wiki. I figure if I'm gonna play a game for more than 9000 hours in a 4+ year time period, I may as well learn everything I can about it.

Anyway, I'm rambling now, I figured this would be a fun thing to do, I guess people just aren't interested, and that's okay. I just want to get rid of this Armbrace via a contest of some sort.

Most (if not all) contests that are posted are GIVING away things without any sort of entry fee. This is probably why not a lot of people are interested in paying you 1K for a contest they might win. No one likes to lose money and people would rather be given stuff. Other parties would be things like Guru's Trivia contest that we're hosting in game or Pink Day in LA. We also recently had a community event hosted by a guild for the Full moon.

If you want to get rid of an armbrace donate it or just... give it away. 200K isn't /that/ much.

It's quite sad really, I was really looking forward to this. I suppose I could eliminate the entry fee, and give money per question answered, instead of a large reward for the winner. I'll do that, and see if it's a bit more inviting that way.

It is pretty cheap as an entry fee, but any fee is more than some people want to pay, although they are typically willing to jump over all kinds of other hurdles to get free stuff. Or you can just give it away, for example I plan to give away three this afternoon. Holding an event for your alliance is different as you have instant credibility for being a member and more if you talk to them frequently. Sorry I only hang around the Community News, Contests & Events forum on Guru so maybe it is just a different section of the community where you are known. So let me introduce you to the event forum, check out the last 10 threads here to get a general idea of what is going on this month as we celebrate Wintersday. Please don't give up, we would be thrilled to have more people doing fun things for the community, you just might need to find a different way to make it work.
