Question *huge spoiler* about the treachery of shiro

i have finished GW:F..well, for those who finished GW:F, you all should know that the reason of shiro betraying emperor is due to the words of fortune teller..it is weird though that the fortune teller kept convincing shiro that if he do not betray and kill the emperor, it will be his turn to be killed by the emperor..is this true??..or there is some sinister force behind the treachery of shiro??..

the reason for me to start another thread is that i do not want to spoilt the story to those who have not finished GW:F yet..cheers..

I think maybe that Shiro trusted the fortune teller, she played a little trick on Shiro to get him to kill the Emperor; maybe she hated the emperor herself!

"In his final living moments, overcome with pain, rage and and malice"

In this quote, maybe Shiro knew that he should not have trusted the fortune teller and he built up pain, rage and malice because he did something he shouldn't have done.

Maybe now, he's back for revenge ...

That could also be percieved as the Emperors betrayal causing the rage. My point being. Don't base something like why he did it on a single phrase.

The truth is many prophecies are self fulfilling. Many times in history and literature, a fortune teller gives a bad fortune and the act of avoiding that fortune the reciver fulfills it. This is another of those cases.

THe fortune teller was probablly tellign the truth. On one of the flash backs it showed the emporer saying"I've made some changes, let them in" Makign shiro thinking that he wants to slay him when about no ones there.

Still , it doesnt explain why he uses the afflicted, why everyone knows that afflicted is a sign of shirow (after all he hasnt used em before?)

why everyone seem to know about this event from 200 years ago, and suspect Shiro for it (its like saying Napoleon must have returned and is responsible for some event today)

It doesnt explain why there are still well preserved boats in the jade sea

it doesnt explain why he wanted an army (except to breach the palace)

and why did he desire to become mortal? doesnt say

-it kinda feels like the other envoys fooled shirow to do the ritual for becoming a mortal, possibly assisted him somewhat- in order to get rid of him.

-
It would have been better if Shirow caused corrupt (whether its rage or greed) individuals to become physicaly afflicted , but leaving the faithful (-that just gets slaughtered by afflicted)

And that he was in a pursuit of "cleansing" canthas sins, though greater good means (kinda like let god sort em out)

My opinion exactly. The prophecy of the emperor killing (and by proxy having his guards kill) Shiro was brought about by Shiro killing the emperor, which would not have taken place if the fortune teller had not said it. We don't yet know anything about the emperor's real intent, and come on, we all know Shiro would have gone Impossible Odds on him if the emperor tried anything. The bind of the emperor killing Shiro could only be triggered by Shiro first killing the emperor, however the teller (and Shiro) misinterpreted the prophecy to be one or the other.

Prophecy is fun, isn't it
