******SPOILER******

According to the quest "Bad Fortune," the Fortune Teller in factions was actually a demon created by Abaddon to confront Shiro and envoke the darkness within him. Once Shiro was open to the darkness, Abaddon was free to influence him however he wanted, giving him the power to create the Jade Wind.

He insta-killed 16 player toons in Vizunah, and can make his own army with ease... and he can kill stuff as an envoy.

Why switch back?

The desire for life. There are a lot of stories, fictional and supposedly true stories, about the dead seeking a return to life. For a spirt adrift life is an anchor.

Or, maybe he was simply ordered/influenced to do so by Abaddon.

Well he did seem rather happy to be alive again, what I could gather from the bad voice acting at least.

Have you ever eaten a bunch of fried chinese food?

The gas that you can build up (and release upon death) can be quite catastrophic...

perhaps abaddon wanted shiro to be living so he could "rule" Cantha, just as the lich was to "rule" Tyria. then all the hard works done before the big A even arrives

It also seemed to me that he could only insta-kill like that before characters became Weh No Su*. As well as being able to see spiritual entities, it provides some measure of protection - otherwise, why wouldn't he do it in Sunjiang as well?

*Apart from using Meditation of the Reaper, that is... which is probably the best way to explain the insta-killing as the spirit. Since no-one can see him to break the meditation, it WILL do maximum damage...

Humm, the timeline a few people are mentioning seems to be a little out of whack.

In Shiro's real mortal life, he was simply a man who had great talent and became the Emperor's trusted bodyguard. He got mind-frelled though by the fortune-teller and his own fears. He thought the Emperor was going to kill him, so he decided to make kill the Emperor first.

Of course, the fortune teller was right. The Emperor did kill Shiro (through his vassals). How or why Shiro's death cry caused the Jade Wind, I don't know. I've been through all campaigns and really I don't see how his death could be so powerful. I may have just missed it.

He became an Envoy, but was corrupted by what Abbadon had planned. He came back to soe discontent and disease in Cantha. Being defeated, he got pushed into the Realm of Torment - which seems odd. Were the rest of the Envoys really that clueless? Let's give Shiro back to Abaddon! Yeah, yeah, good idea.

I think the Envoys knew exactly where they were sending him. However, they didn't know the prison was flawed - and when you have a prison that a god can't break out of, why shouldn't you send the spirits of your other, less powerful but equally reprehensible troublemakers there as well?

The one that got beheaded was the OLD emperor. The one that dances is the new one. To get back, Shiro had to kill one of the royal bloodline, but he topped Master Togo, not Emperor Kisu.

No. You see, the REAL reason why Shiro let out the Jade Wind was because he was a Whammo. Whammo's are invincible, yet he was killed!! And so, because his awesomeness as a Whammo was too big to handle, his death let out all of that energy, creating the Jade Wind.

The storyline kinda reminded me of half life and how like the lich and shiro were generals to open a path up for abaddon kinda like how in half life the alien whatsits made way for the ape like dudes who took over the world.
