Drascir and Surmia
I was reading about Ascalon Lore and i discovered a small point of confusion.
Drascir the Former Capital of Ascalon is the site of an Academy of the Arcane Arts that links to the one in Nolani (thus making it the one u defend in the ruins of Surmia mission) according to the lore and yet it is in the Ruins of Surmia as proven by the Monument of Surmia that is next to the wall surrounding it. If it wasnt for this monument u could asume the Ruins far further south were the ruins of Surmia.
So Which is it? Is the Drascir Academy mysteriously in Surmia or is the monument of Surmia mysteriously in Drascir?
Has anyone else noticed this?

Basicly I think its both. Its a well known fact for the names of places to change over time.
Maybe thats all that happend.
OR Surmia is the area where the Academy is located in.
Kind of like a town that is an a county or state.

I guess one possibility that just occured to me is what if Surmia was built over the ruins of Drascir.
But that would be broken by that Both prince Rurik and King Adelburn were both apparetly born in Drascir despite the fact it was classed as being destoryed long ago. Surmia according to the lore was established just 50 years before the Searing, so unless Rurik is over 50 years old which i severly doubt then these cant be built on top of each other.
The Flaming scepter Mages were apparently being held in the ruins of Drascir according to the cutscene with erol. hmm i think i just confused myself more :S

I always just thought that Drascir was just the capital of the province of Surmia, as well as the capital of Ascalon before the Charr drove the Ascalonians back to the Wall.

No. Surmia is a city. Cynn is born there. They wouldn't call it "Ruins of Surmia" if Surmia is not a city. Also, the quest Cities of Ascalon specifically mentions that Surmia is a city.
I actually noticed this quite a while ago. I believe that the Ruins of Surmia location is the actual location of Surmia's ruins, since it was supposed to be right outside the Wall. And the location of the Academy that you defended is the site of Drascir, since it was noted that Drasic was further north from Surmia.
As for the small conflicting issues, I've "concluded" that one Charr likely decided that moving the monument from Surmia to Drascir was funny, and that our dearly departed Prince Rurik liked to lie about his birthplace, to imply that his age is greater than it seems to perhaps attract Althea's attention, who may prefer older guys.

They might, if there were other major population centres in the province. Or it could be that Drascir was essentially the 'royal district' of Surmia - a city within a city in a similar manner as the Forbidden City (aka Raisu Palace) in Cantha, or the Vatican in Rome.
(Incidentally, another explanation for the location of the monument, if you take the 'Surmia was the mission lobby' approach: Maybe the monument was for the benefit of travellers heading south from Drascir, informing them about where they were heading? Or to remind travellers leaving Surmia for Drascir, in a similar manner to "We hope you enjoyed your stay in our town, come back soon" signs?)

Taken from the quest text:
"Greetings, friend! I wonder if you can help me? I am attempting to preserve Ascalon's great history before all is lost. If, on your travels, you could find and record the founder's inscriptions for the cities of Nolani, Surmia, and King's Watch, I would be so grateful. I know these great cities are in ruins now, but Lyssa willing, you'll find historical markers among the wreckage. I look forward to your return."
And Drascir has to also be a city since its a capital and capitals are always citys.
Taken from Wiki:
The city of Drascir, former capital of Ascalon, lies far beyond the protection of The Great Northern Wall, due north of Surmia. It fell into the hands of the invading Charr years ago.
hmm that brings another issue into the situation, the city of Kings Watch is notibly non existant also, especially in pre searing where u can go and yet there is no monument or city (which is there post) A possiblity is that the city was abanddoned long before even the searing, and no longer exists at all and the monument was put there during the 2 year period between the searing and u arriving in Ascalon (post) or alternativly it would have been un covered by the searing (either some remains so they placed a monument, or the monument itself)
