ok if im on the side of one alliance, when i go to the opposit alliances lands, why dont they kill me? i mean, the people that you dispise are all around me. and why am i let inside their capital? do the sides even affect the story line?

They will not trade with you nor grant you access to certain areas (thus completing the story line from their end) until after you have become friends with them. Also, you cannot have priest blessings w/o a bribe and they will always call you names.

Essentially, you are a well connected mercenary. As such, there is always incentive for both sides to get you to work for them.

That's true, you also have to keep in mind that you are not born a Luxon or Kurzick, nor can you really be a true member of Luxon or Kurzick, you are still bound to the main storyline at the end of it all.
