The Guild Wars lore is amazing although I don't think they've used it well enough yet. There is still so much potential parts that haven't been tapped. And as mentioned the first Game manual had so much back story it was enough get you pumped for the game. I believe they have only room to improve the storyline and I can't wait to see what they will link with Eyes of the North. But personally so far I was rather disappointed with explanation of the charr invasion. It seemed too much as if they just threw it out there. I never felt completely satisfied the way they tagged Abaddon with everything. He used the titans to use the Charr to invade Ascalon and then he used the Lich to sink Orr. And of course he used the fortune teller to turn Shiro. It got to the point that I've called it the Abaddon effect now. I was just expecting to have to put the pieces together not have the completed puzzle just handed to me in a couple of paragraphs on a hand full of npc's.

although i also didnt like how they made everything link to Abaddon, i do have to say i think Anet did it very cleverly. You have got to give them credit for thinking things out like the the backstory for The Lich and Shiro and the real reasons behind things.

ON a sidenote I also think the reason most people feel more passionate about Tryia than the other continents is perhaps because it has alot more lore than the other campaigns (even from the manuals) I also think it could be due to the fact Tryia had several totally different areas ranging from Iceland to Dessert to Destroyed former farmland and the fact u get to see a before and after style of event with the Searing.

Or it's simply because Prophecies is flat-out awesome.

I agree with you guys though. The lore is magnificent but quite a bit hasn't been explained in detail. Some things from the Prophecies manual to learn more about:

-Founding of Kryta
-King Doric
-The humans' "lust for expansion and power"
-Orr in general
-Lord Odran and his portals - the tombs of Drascir, for example
-The guild wars (why is the game named after such a badly-explained event?)
