Jatoro Musagi, located in Kodlonu Hamlet, Istan: I believe "ahai" is the appropriate greeting, yes? Well, ahai, (character name)! I am Jatoro Musagi. I hail from the southwest, where the great island of Shing Jea rests upon clear cool shores. Cantha is home to the great Dragon Empire."

ok you need to learn one thing he does not say whole cantha ls southwest he says the island of shing jea

so that means the whole cantha could and is more west then you would think

so that makes sence with Between the northwest coast of Cantha and the southern rim of Elona, a deadly sea is troubled..."."

the map giga trike has is most likely right but cantha is more east then what he has not much though

more like this

that way both poeple make sence he never says cantha lies south west just the islands and the islands lye west of cantha

i also think elonia is more est the what poepl think also on page 24of manuscript book for night fall iit says "the margonites, fought an epic battle on the shallow sea north of elona.the carnage that resulted created a vast wasteland--the realm now known as the crystal desert"
if the cystal desert is northwest like everyone put(like in my map below) they would have said that in the book but they dont they say north.

He says he hails from the Southwest......he doesnt say i hail from the southwest island of Shing Jea (which is wrong since he originally came from Kaineng City before he travelled to Shing Jea)...he just says he comes from the south west where shing jea rests on the shores...and correct me if i am wrong but Shing Jea is VERY close to Kaineng City...

And i think the map that TiNkLeR posted is about right. With the exception of the Battle Ilse going missing

he does not say he is from shing jea monestery and the city is located on the tiny island(which is called shing jea) to the west he hails from the south west , the shing jea island rest so yes is most would be mine would make both things right not just one like the map you are talking about

the map i had would be more right that map does not make things right with what both npcs says i dont think they would make one rule out another

The 'deadly seas' quote isn't even from an NPC, it's from the Nightfall manual, and if you haven't already read my earlier post about why that quote has absolutely no bearing on the respective locations of Cantha and Elona, please go back and read it. Your argument is thoroughly flawed.

Lord UWR, you basically posted the map I posted. That aside, an even more thorough discussion was brought up about the same thing here. That is, about where Cantha is, on the GWO Lore Forum. I had thought of posting that along with the map earlier on, but I wasn't sure if it was alright or not.

ok why would they put that in a book (a book anet made and wrote) if it where not true and why whould thw quote have no bearing on where each place is a sea you would have to learn what a sea is and what makes it different then a ocean .. so you saying it means nothing is wrong
cantha is not as far wst as you think it cant be maybe futher south then i think but not more west just does not make sence in what a sea is

I don't think Cantha is as small as ppl make out.
I understand the point that there is less to uncover for cartographer's title but there is also more empty space in Cantha compared to Elona and Tyria (Southwestern city, mountains east of jade sea and southern jade sea) These areas do not affect cartographer's but make the area bigger.

Also is anyone else seing a tiny resemblance to our world?
The Shiverpeaks-Himilayas
Deadly Sea-Dead Sea (or Red Sea)
Unending Ocean-Atlantic
Mesa thinking a western area is possible for the next campaign (If nordic isn't used). The americas-New world, Story of adventurers travelling to a new continent, finding new civilisations and dangers. this would also help cover up the fact the continent hasnt been mentioned

-=BTW This is my 1st post on Guru, did it help?=-

Meh...
So A-Net did intend for Cantha to lie south of everything else as folks have said afterall......

Doesn't mean it makes geological sense. The layout of the GW world doesn't even begin to make sense from a climate perspective... Things would be entirely different from the way they are shown....

I mean just Tyria itself is messed up enough. A tropical jungle is on the same latitude as temperate plains..... and the cross-over in Majesty's Rest is truly obscene. Snowcapped mountains lie right next to scorching desert.... which would be ok... if it weren't for the complete lack of apparent temperature transition. Once again.... screwed up climates.
Elona doesn't have anything like the same degree of change from one region to the next, though the degree of change from Tyria to Elona alone would imply along the same rate that southern Cantha should be under ice.... but it isn't...

The whole thing is screwy. It would make more sense if Cantha was on the same latitude as Tyria...... but we've already noted the in-game conversational elements imply this is now certainly not so.

We are not amused. v_v;

well the shiverpeaks are snowy because its Mountainous, and high mountain areas have snow! dont forget it isnt just climate that controls an area, type of soil affects things too as does height, weather patterns, and any disastrous changes (like the Magic battle that boiled away the ocean to form the crystal Dessert.)

dude if you have ever driven from Los Angeles to Las Vegas you wouldn't think this is that screwed up. I have driven over the snow covered Sierra Madre's only to find my self in Death Valley....there is no apparent climate change it goes from Snowy and 35 degrees to Barren and over 100 degrees pretty much a blink of an eye.

The shiverpeaks are just an extending mountain chain a lot of people are convinced that tyria is the most northern part of the world but we already know now that the char and norn live above us. The norn live in the higher part of the mountain chain and the charr live east of it. Plus the charr lands are suppose to be fertile and lush with vegetation.

You did pay attention to the storyline right? Ascalon was not always a desert....

I believe it's called a rainshadow(?) effect, been a while since my EAS classes. But in effect mountain ranges force prevailing winds up and due to elevation (temperature, pressure) most moisture in the air is knocked out. This creates essentially very low relative humidity after the air travels past the mountains, and creates desert like conditions. When Alberta was first explored (east of the Canadian Rockies) it was described as an arid zone, almost desert like, not suitable for agriculture or grazing. Not to mention Ascalon was bombarded by the Char, couldn't have helped the soil much.

And as mentioned already, it would likely be that if Elona is only slightly North of the equator, then Cantha would be relatively the same distance South of the equator.

Not sure about Maguuma though, don't know of many jungle-like areas a long way from the equator.
