It's two years from pre to post, then another three from that to Nightfall, and then there's the probable period between them and GW:EN...

eotn happens after nightfall
how do I know, look in the guild wars nightfall game manual there is no time for eotn.
some of you people have to start thinking more logical
the red iris flower giving special powers to have her survive the searing, or mabey she just didnt get here face smashed in by a meteor. and flowers being in elona dosnt mean that she was there it means the plants grow in places other than ascolon two. i dont mean to be a party pooper but its just my ideas

I think the flower being in Elona only hints to her location...lets look at the clues that we were given...

1. Gwen's Broken Flute could be found in Old Ascalon...so...it can be presumed that during the searing, Gwen could've possibly made her way down to the catacombs, since her flute was found near the catacombs.

2. People have suggested the idea that the catacombs could possibly weave throughout the shiverpeaks by the dredge and dwarves...so...drawing upon that idea, I would say that Gwen ran to the catacombs and made her way out of the shiverpeaks.

3. The tattered girl's cape could've been found near Fisherman's Haven...presumbly, Gwen's hard journey could've worn out her cape making it "tattered" and from my guess, she was able to make it to that location before she was....

4. Captured by corsairs (who are "pirates" like Margrid the sly) who made a trip by Fisherman's Haven for...some reason...uh anyways... the corsairs took Gwen to their hide out in Elona where we found the preserved red iris flower.

What happens after that is still unknown...but based on the items that we can find, that's what I came up with.

Yaay I'm not the only one who thinks Gwen had a urn in with the Corsair. Only i think they took her flower and got their butts ahnded to them by the Asura...

So noone actually thought about the possibility that Gwen simply preserved the pretty flower (traditionally putting it into a book to press flat and dry out, like young girls all over the world) and lost one in the chaos of the war, with refugees running all over the continents, likely as far as Elona?

Nah the Corsair we're sea travelling peeps. Theres little to no chance that they would of been anywhere near Ascalon at the time.

There will be two new types of materials, red iris flowers and preserved iris flowers which drop in the new, finally designed and created, god realms to create special gwen-inspired armor that Sylvarian spirits will craft for you after collecting enough and getting to them because Gwen did something that their race was astounded and impressed by and they want to honor her by designing a new line or armor for her */catchbreath*. Hey, why not!. All I can say is I'm VERTY interested to see what ANet has come up with to pull Gwen back into everything.

My prediction is at the beginning of Gw:En they will say Gwen was killed by charr, the charr took her items, auctioned them off to all the evil creatures throughout the land. No more gwen, and only reason her items are everywhere is cause they were auctioned. Gwen had such a dark and dirty past, she was sent to the FoW for her eternal soul, instead of the Uw.

Why is it so surprising Gwen survived?

Many of the NPCs in pre-searing survive to Post. (Anyone have a list?)

I mean, even Lady Althea herself didn't die in the destruction of Ascalon, the Charr killed her later.

No, the preserved Flower, the tattered cape, all are hints that Gwen survived, not that she used these things to survive.

Gwen isn't a baddie. Look at Act 3. The Great Destroyer. So, we can rule out villainess, so how about monk/mesmer/warrior hero? And, yes I think corsair's DO HAVE something to do with it.

Well from what you can read about the charr homeland is suppose to be very beautiful. So it can't be entirely ruled out that she was taken captive just like Althea was, save the fact his wasn't turned into a pile of ashes. In fact it might have something to do with Althea. Although the only conflict is that Charr are considering to have no concept of mercy but that doesn't always speak for the entire race.

And if she did impressed them like it was noted earlier it would have had to been her little burn everyone escapade she pulled on everyone at the end of the beta. That was teh pain >O_-<

in presear she WAS a monk
she TALKED about being warrior
LIKED mesmer clothing
in a beta she WAS a elementalist and blew us all up (oh the good old days)

so thats 4/10 professions covered

also i like the theory bout being in the catacombs to escape the char, and since there is the tarnished coast explains her existence in the jungle to loose her cape, and since the "world" is called tyria the catacombs may extend as far as elona for her to lose one of her flowers.

HOWEVER
there HAVE been char in the catacombs, as per this quest. http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Charr_in_the_Catacombs

So maybe thats what drove her to leave ascalon and exit at the jungle, then running from the scale she ended up in elona, then again running from elona back into the catacombs where you meet her again

I do like the catacombs idea as well but I have another possible out come.

When the searing starts, dodging the meteors she looses her flute which breaks. She makes for the catacombs but as we know the catacombs appear to have collapsed during the searing so she wouldn't be chased by the charr but rather trapped down there. I don't think she would be quite able as a small child to navigate the catacombs of tryia. But we don't know he any of the other citizen of ashford were with her. Anyway I doubt she would find her way to elona. But since the searing did cause some major earthquakes it could have raised the curiosity of the asura, possibly thinking the great destroyer had started his terror.

She might have been found by the asura. So the asura take her with them to learn of the surface world and begin to travel back to their home, on the way Gwen looses her cape around the jungle region. . She just might have grown up with them . Now as for the flowers. Assuming she lived with the asura, she was of course fond of flowers and it was all she had left of her home so possibly the asura help her preserve it or since her mother was a herbalist preserving flowers and roots would be common knowledge to Gwen.

While living with the Asura below the tarnished coast its possible she comes up for some sun every now and then. So she might have lost one her flowers while on the surface. And the corsair who are known for hiding near the most dangerous coastlines possibly tried to set up a base on the tarnished coast. Where they find the flower and considering it unusual in such an inhospitable place consider it of some value and it makes its way back to elona.

Thats a big stretch of the imagination but should account for all occurrences thus far.
