The ancient weapon is part of an unfinished quest/way to finish a quest so I doubt it will be revisited.

and why can't that unfinished quest be finished in GW2. Seems kind of weird to throw something in a game for no purpose whatsoever.

Read the wiki page, it says it's original use was to knock over the big statue to get to the forgotten NPC for the 15 attribute quest. Don't know why it was changed, but the weapon was in the game for a reason.
Anyways, I doubt it. |
