the end of GW:EN goes something like this shhhh this is just between you and me
you kill nasty beasty then you have become like a legend. You would eventually die from old age. resserecting would be pointless as you would die fairly soon after. It would be more peaceful just to die.
Or i recon you sacrifice your life to kill something at the end; i actualyl think you kill yourself in order to create the Sylvari which stops the nasty beasty thats my little story anyway.

i wanna know how an asura is going to inherit my monks stuff ..... how is he related...dont say over the years there was inter species relationships. A drunken night drinking Dwarven ale when you meet an asura...enough said.
That asura has baby and has to bring it up by themselves because you died at war...

Will there be a way to communicate with your old friends from GW1? or Vise-Versa?

The reason all those ressurcts work is because the gods allow them to. They know its not your hero's time so they let them be ressed, and put their spirt back in their body. When it is finally their time, the gods would take the spirt and usher it into the mists before it could be retruned to its body.

Your characters never die....they just become NPC's. Like my aborted lvl 1 Ele...who never got past the Town Crier's first quest in Pre. He was re-incarnated as Castellan Puuba in NF.

Gwen is the best example of this ever. After dissapearing mysteriously from Ascalon, she underwent extensive reconstructive/transgender surgery and facial mapping and is now famous as the great Brawler Henchman Little Thom.

No the dwarves will kidnap us and kill us on the bloodstones so our souls can't return to our bodies.

At the end of GW:EN, Gwen will probably lead us into a forest full of auto-respawning [skill]frozen soil[/skill], then smite us all with her [skill]hamstring[/skill] [skill]fire storm[/skill].

In Factions at the end of Vizunah Square, Shiro kills the entire party with SUPER-AIDS (it's airborne and it kills within 5 miliseconds). The Envoys say that it is not our time yet.

Perhaps judge is right - Grenth is like "Eww no way! Once you get into the Hall of Heroes you're just going to farm everything to extinction. You can forget it!"

...but then eventually, we will all be hundreds of years old, and Grenth will be driven crazy as other people ask if they can live for centuries.

...then he kills us...then five minutes later, GW2 starts.

The degeneration idea is nice too. I can imagine in my later years running around with "-50 (Natural Aging)" popping out of my character.

Personally, my opinion on ressurection is this:

1) The target has to be Chosen. This is why, for instance, allied soldiers can't be ressed - they aren't Chosen.

2) The target's body and soul has to be strong enough. In the case of Rurik and Althea, it's the body that is no longer suitable to be a receptacle for life (Rurik's is a skeleton, Althea's is ashes). In the case of Togo and others who have been harvested for their life energy, it's because their soul is no longer strong enough to return. (This might be the reason why PCs slain on the Bloodstone can come back, even if it is harder - because they just happened to die there rather than being ritually slain to fuel the Bloodstone.)

Old age is something I hadn't considered, but I expect while it does mean someone can live for longer (since there's magic to deal with the diseases associated with dying - in some cases you may even be able to perform postmortem surgery and then resurrect the patient...) my suspicion is that ageing still occurs and cannot be stopped by any known magic. So eventually the body just gets too old to sustain life any longer.

On the passing down of a legacy - I suspect it doesn't need to be a direct ancestor. In the case of other races, it could be a case that somewhere between your GW1 character and your GW2 character there was a character adopted by one family to another, or your GW1 character or one of their descendants died childless and passed their legacy on to a friend or student of another race, they could be founding members of a (mini-)guild that survives over the centuries and comes to accept nonhuman members, or some other means for your GW1 character(s) or their descendants to be part of the family history without actually being biologically related.

Rurik, the chosen on the bloodstone...probably because they were beheaded. They didn't show this, but an axe to the northern area of the body...yeah. They can't be rezzed although they're chosen because their heads aren't attached to their bodies anymore. There's no beheading skill for warriors, is there? That and it's always instant death...Rurik was taking hits from the Stone Summit for quite some time before being hit with the avalanche..he had plenty of time for his health to regen (probably like 7 pips) before Dagnar Stonepate takes one swing at his head and it goes dark.

Everything but amputation can be healed...but you can't make someone grow back bodyparts, especially their head.

I don't think there would be some cataclysmic event that kills off characters...that may and probably will kill the game...Anet won't do that when the franchise is still only 3-4 years old. The characters will live on and do more stuff. The stuff that already happened (everything up to GW:EN) will probably be documented and will have some kind of tribute in GW2, and all future GW1 expansions will have their details chronicled and referenced in future expansions of GW2.

Or how Dead people can tell everyone there dead via pinging there own health bar.

I typed out a nice idea about the spirit not leaving the body yet and then it dawned on me. The answer is simple - Envoys.

The Envoys take the spirits to the afterlife and the person is no longer res-able. We as the chosen champions of Tryia are strong willed and the Envoys never have the chance to take our souls since we are ressed too fast for them to arrive or because they know we are the chosen ones and so we are special and they leave us alone for one reason or another. I would say the envoys remove the soul from the body(or this happens automatically) and then transport it away.

In times where we are autoressed by the Shrines i would guess the Spirit from the body is drawn there by the gods where they teleport and restore the body and soul as one.

We are the chosen ones, the ones the Gods Favor, the greatest Heroes of all time. (until Gw2 atleast)

.......yeah what he said *_*
