So, after GW:EN all your characters die...
...Big Deal! can't a Monk Res them? Surely if you can bring people back from the dead after they've been hacked with an axe, shot with poision, lit on fire, bludgeoned with a hammer, slashed with a dagger, sliced by a scythe, and after all that the body is used to make a flesh golom (and all of this happening in one instance ); wouldn't resurecting someone from death from old age be simple? And would following that, why would people get old?
I don't want to start a thread about why we can't bring our characters into GW2; I'm just interested in seeing what other people think "Death" in the game is. I.E.; what happens when you run out of health points?
Personally, I'm thinking you just fall unconcious and are about to die unless you receive medical attention.
P.S. Sorry if this is in the wrong place, it seemed the most apprpriate.

That wouldn't explain total party wipe - who gives medical attention in those situations?
The rez system is a metagaming concept, and it doesn't mesh well with the storyline at all. It's just there to insure that the game doesn't become impossibly hard. Now, having said that... Apparently you and your hero's/henchies are favored by the gods, who grant you the use of the rez shrines and spells while you carry out their will. The 'regular' inhabitants of Tyria don't have that luxury.

You could also ask why couldnt anyone Res Rurik or Togo or the emperor Shiro killed?
Or how Dead people can tell everyone there dead via pinging there own health bar.
I typed out a nice idea about the spirit not leaving the body yet and then it dawned on me. The answer is simple - Envoys.
The Envoys take the spirits to the afterlife and the person is no longer res-able. We as the chosen champions of Tryia are strong willed and the Envoys never have the chance to take our souls since we are ressed too fast for them to arrive or because they know we are the chosen ones and so we are special and they leave us alone for one reason or another. I would say the envoys remove the soul from the body(or this happens automatically) and then transport it away.
In times where we are autoressed by the Shrines i would guess the Spirit from the body is drawn there by the gods where they teleport and restore the body and soul as one.
We are the chosen ones, the ones the Gods Favor, the greatest Heroes of all time. (until Gw2 atleast)

As previously said, i think that 'rezzing' is only in the game to make life easier and give people who die at least another chance so they don't get frustrated.
Also if monks can 'heal' people by using magic , it makes sense that they can use that magic to ressurec people.

What armor and weapon? Your fow armor and whatever you're using as a weapon? No such luck I'm afraid, none of those items will be there in GW2. None tranferable you see. Those stuff in Hall of Monument will be completely different things all together.

why would you want to keep your old armour and weapons in gw2? as far as i've read, the level cap is much higher, so the whole combat system would be different, so your max weapons and armour may actually be only starter items in gw2.
the only thing that i would like to carry over to gw2 would be all the gold i've got in storage, but i doubt that would happen, as this would be unfair to new players who just started playing gw2 (not played gw1).

GW2 is staged way into the future from GW1. Why would you want to use antiquated armor and weapons? In 100/200 years, wouldn't it seem logical that the old things will be improved upon? Or is everyone thinking that the only thing changing is time?
-My "Searing Flames" and heros with their minnions, Barrage, and Sever Artery, are going to knock down those castle walls and vanquish every foe inside those walls.-
If that can happen, it is not a 'new' game, but only an expansion pack.

a person who dies of natural causes cant be ressurected because their body is worn out and can no longer support life.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but isn't it only the chosen who can be ressed in lore terms?

Everyone is strapped to a giant volcano and feeding the Lich magical energy after he imprisoned the world and put everyone in the Lichtrix.
Sooo...when you die, your mind just reboots so you can keep "playing." Feed the Lich more energy! Ahahahaha!

We don't know if our characters will die in some cataclysmic event at the end of GWEN, or survive and die of old age sometime before GW2. In either case, I don't think a rez signet would save you
Like Mournblade said, resurrection isn't really part of the story. If it was, we'd probably have Saul D'Alessio, Prince Rurik, Varesh, Togo, Kehanni, Saidra, the entire Orrian nation, and Dwayna knows who else running around live

Even if you take that into account, there are still some Chosen/Ascended people that could be rezzed but aren't (Master Togo, Vizunah Square: "Ah, Weh no Su, the celestial test. Mhenlo and I know it well."). I think that they just assume that no one can be brought back from the dead for story purposes (other than through necromancy, like with Rurik).

All very good points, I apologize that when I first made this post it was very late, and I didn't explain my idea very well. However, what you have all said makes much better sense than anything I have come up with, especially your idea, Sophitia Leafblade
I thought this would be an interesting subject to bring up. I hadn't seen anywhere that only players, henchmen and other chosen people could be resurected, so that's news to me. Though it does make sense in the world of Tyria.

We may never no. It's like Warcraft III. If a hero dies in-game, you can revive them. Often if you're fighting an enemy hero (who's a main character, like Uther), especially heroes slain in cutscenes, they can't come back for some reason.
Then again, perhaps you CAN be ressed but in the GW:EN finale you get disintegrated/buried underground/sucked into another dimension. THAT would prevent resurrection, as you cannot select the dead (save for "I'm moving to the ashes of Bob The Slayer).
I originally considered we'd live a peaceful life (after going through more adventures in the never-released chapters 4-10) before having kids, retiring, and dying of old age.
We STILL don't know if there will be a "we all die" cinematic. It wouldn't make sense if your monk just died 5 minutes ago and now you're farming. Of course, it also doesn't make much sense if you just witness Rurik being axed, then heading back to Nolani when he lives, then to Hell's when he's suddenly undead, then back to The Frost Gate to see himself die again.

Ressurrection has been in the story a few times. First being what FireFox said The Battle For Khylo - the story of the battle between Ascalons Chosen and the Zealots of the Shiverpeaks. Devonas father Mordakai is brought back by a fellow monk during the battle. The next time he dies there is nobody around to ressurect him so he actually dies.
Quote:
Surrounded, outnumbered ten to one, Mordakai went down on one knee. The world spun before his eyes. His hands, covered in his own blood, slipped from the hilt of his hammer. Then a loud thud echoed through his head as something heavy struck him from behind. In the next moment, the world went silent. Time seemed to stand still, and the big warrior fell backward, unable to hold himself up any longer.
"Mordakai!" From the walkway atop the castle, Burian watched the warrior disappear under the assault of nearly a dozen Zealots of Shiverpeak.
Stepping behind the protection of the crenellations, the monk closed his eyes, lowered his head, and began chanting a prayer to Dwayna. His words were smooth and mellifluous, a sharp contrast to the harsh clangs and screams below. Lifting his hands into the air, Burian finished his prayer.
"Breathe life back into the fallen. The miracle of rebirth…"
A flash of blue-white light surrounded Mordakai, and his body disappeared from the ground.
Mordakai coughed once then opened his eyes.
"You really should be more careful." Burian smiled as he looked down at him.

The second being in Cantha in which 16 heros and Master Togo and Mhenlo are killed by Shiro. The Envoys bring the heros back stating "we give back to you your newly departed spirits". So i would hold it like Sophitia said The Envoys play a big role in it.
Also lets remember that bringing back people like Rurik was out of the question at the time. Rurik was trapped under snow alone when he was killed ,Saidra had marched headfirst into a group of Mursaat and Togo had just been used in a ritual by Shiro. There was not much time to bring them back during these events.

If you die of old age, you're still old. Even if someone resurrects you, you'll just die again immediately, similar to a 55 with DP. >_>
Of course, that's also ignoring the principles of the Envoys and the Chosen of the Gods and Ascension and all that, which are explained in previous posts.

Well since everyone is throwing in their opinion, heres mine.
I dont think GW is going to end after GW:EN....I dont think that the last expansion is going to be GW:EN. The reason I say this is because the fan base will be moving back and forth between the two all the time. When something happens in GW people will go play it same with GW2. I also think that if Anet wants to make real money they will continue to add to GW because this game in the MORPH world is really quite young yet........its not like when GW2 comes out GW is going immediately disappear for shelves.... money can still be made.
And whether people want to say it or not....if another expansion came out for GW after GWEN and we had GW2 out wouldnt you buy it?

Where is this?? I've never heard of it before and I want to read it!
And what I meant about old age; Let's say you're in a battle, being hacked to peices by some axe wielding bad guy. The Monk in your group casts protective sprit, healing breeze, Etc. and is able to keep you from dying. In terms of the game world, you can imagine the image of someone being hacked with the axe, and their wounds healing almost spontaneously as fast as the enemy can inflict them. That being the case, wouldn't it seem a simple matter for your local monk to be able to rejuvenate your failing kidneys and liver, clean out the cholesterol from your ateries and possibly clear up that blood clot that might come loose and cuase you to have a stroke (The symptoms of getting old)? I know it's more complicated than that, and they are two different things. But, one of the main goals of our current medical science is to stop or cure aging somehow, why would their case be different? and I'd imagine that Magic would make things much easier, as it does with everything else!

You can find many of the lore stories there including the 3 part Battle For Khylo.
We cant be sure our characters even die from old age yet. With the many unpredictable events going on throughout Tyria some event could happen between EotNs ending and the start of GW2. GW2 has to have some base lore and something like a searing could of happened that killed our characters.
Of course our characters cant really die at the end of EotN - think of the outrage and remember we have a 2 year wait till we can begin anew in the new era of Tyria.
