Default Who is Devona, really?

O.k. So, we have the big, huge, awesome orginal Guild Wars Trailer with Devona, Cynn and Aiden. Devona is the narrator and talks about her father keeping peace in the land up until this point. Then we get into post-searing and boom - Aldabran is the king of ascalon (the only real monarchy around), Rurik the prince and heir - and Devonas now just a warrior/hammer henchman? Maybe I missed something along the storyline questwise, but Devona is everywhere, she rocks and from GW's inception - seemed to be the central character - storyline-wise. She's on every continent now and virtually always pickable as a hench with good old friends Mhenlo, Aiden and Cynn. But what's her story? Where did she come from? If her father is a king or leader - and she's a princess - in what land?

Help - I'd really like to hear some fact - or even theories on the person of Devona.

Devona isn't a princess, I know that much. Her father was just another soldier who helped defend Ascalon and died either during the Guild Wars or during service on the Great Northern Wall.

After her father's death, she chose to follow in his footsteps and become a great warrior and defend Ascalon as her father did before his death. Most of this information can be read in the Manuscripts and the Factions Manuscripts and is also discerned from her quotes.

So..That's her story, where she came from, and an answer to whether she's of a royal lineage. Hope that helped.

Devona's father was one of the leaders of the guild Ascalon's Chosen. Aldabran was one of its champions, before he was made king. Her father is dead and the guild is obviously no more. She, like her father, just happens to be a very good fighter and very devoted to Ascalon.

Mhenlo is more central than Devona if you ask me.

There are skips in the story. It's possible that he had one, but used it.

Devona is the main character of the story, if GW wasnt an RPG and we had a set character to play, it would be Devona and her party (Mhenlo, Aiden, Cynn, and Eve). She is only put in as a henchman so that she is seen all the way through all 4 games, along with the others.

Mhenlo seems to be more of a main character than Devona. for example, in factions the main npc's are Togo and Mhenlo, and in cutscenes in general Mhenlo has more dialogue.

It could be argued that that was more due to Mhenlo's local experience, however. He's the one that was there, after all. Elsewhere, however, it is Devona that appears to be the leader, and it's her you interact with the most in presearing where the others are skill quest givers at best.

How could she be important if she is such a lackluster henchman and not a hero?
gosh

I find it kind of surprising that their "main characters" didn't leave the sorry two dimensional depth since prophecies. And that Factions is the one with the most interaction with them all.

That answer is very obvious, heroes were not around when prophecies was made, if Anet put in heroes with prophecies, at least Devona and co. would be heroes.

I guess they changed a lot of the lore before they put the game on.With Faction... well... They had already thrown her out the window.

Not exactly thrown. Devona is shown to be the leader in Prophecies and in Factions Mhenlo is the leader. I'm guessing the reason Mhenlo was chosen is because making Devona have ties with people from Cantha would well and truely f*ck up all the lore since the Ascalons Chosen vs ZoS battle.

Once Nightfall comes around both Mhenlo and Devona take a backseat due to the Sunspears and in Eye of the North they once again become lead by your character.

I believe that Mhenlo was the one to be put with a connection to Cantha because, aside from Aiden, he was the only one who did not have a 'concrete' past, and they could slip Cantha into his past. What we know of the 5 'main heroes' are:

Devona:Father was a warrior in Ascalon's Chosen. She lived in Ascalon most of her young life. She became a warrior fighting the Charr and protecting Ascalon. *Which makes, at least myself, think that she lived in Ascalon all her life*

Aiden: Born in the shiverpeaks. Raised as a Ranger in Ascalon the rest of his life. *Not much room for putting in "went to cantha" but a little room*

Cynn: Basically, raised in Surmia, then went south after the Charr sacked her home. *a little, but not much room for putting in "went to cantha"

Eve: Raised in/around Ascalon City, first as a homless thief, then in an academy. *She was there all her life experimenting Necromancy, no room for going to cantha*

Mhenlo: Born in Serenity Temple. Spent most of his life in that temple, training to be a monk. *not much room, as most of his life was in Serenity Temple, but more then the others*

Thats a basic overview of those 5's lives and how easy/hard it would be to put that they went to Cantha in the past once Factions was made up.
