If I remember correctly China and Japan emperors were worshipped as gods and even claimed to be descended from the gods. The Emperor of China was called the "Son of Heaven" and recognized as ruler of "all under heaven" and the emperor of Japan was believed to have been descended from Amaterasu (the Sun goddess) and father of all Japanese.

In Guild Wars we see something similar even under Kisu. Kisu is worshipped as a God with murals and sculptures on their behalf. It is possible that the emperors of Cantha are descendants of some divinity, dragon, spirit or some legendary hero. Maybe in Gw2 we will find that the Emperor of Cantha is descended from the gods themselves. If the emperor has some kind of divine power would be interesting to explore in Gw2.

About Usoku, personally I think he did the right thing. Cantha is the last powefull independent human nation capable of withstanding the dragons since the rest of human nations have fallen, are week or are have been conquered. Killing the emperor would be a suicide for the human race and the civilized species at a delicate time as it is Gw2. In addition, it would be very little original another typical story of Evil Empire vs good Rebels.

Although possible, I do not believe that the emperors of Cantha were descended from the gods, possibly a hero. I believe the first emperor was called Kaineng, which the town was renamed after, and there is no mention of him being descended from a god, nor is there any mention of any emperor after him being descended from a god.

As for you believing Usoku did the right thing, how does forcing all non-humans out *or possibly killing them off* become a good thing? Forcing the Luxons and Kurzicks back into the Canthan Empire, yes that was good, but removing the non-humans out, not so much. Also, seeing how Usoku should be dead for GW2, I don't think there will be a story of Evil Empire/Emperor vs Good Rebels.

and the significance is.... what? Seeing how it is a plant, with what looks like thorns on its back, it could just mean that when in the ground, it looks like a crown, made of thorns, nothing more.
