I'd like the thought of an undead desert dragon, it would be pretty cool and not cliche.

There are tons of these kinds of bones lying around in Tyria.
In pre-searing, in the catacombs there is a metal bridge, and under that bridge is a giant dragon-like skeleton.
In post searing, almost right outside Grench Courthouse are several giant bones lying about. Perhaps victims of when the dragons were awake last time.

So dragons killed the dinosaurs!!!
Why are the dragons asleep anyway? Did they kill all the giant creatures of Tyria (left the bones around the place) and went into hibernation until a new food source was availiable, or did the Gods put them to sleep?

Or maybe they are the gods? Pure speculation.

What about the giant spine between Dalada Uplands and Grothmar Wardowns in GW:EN? Much bigger then any of the ones I have seen elsewhere and visible from 2 zones.

Its speculated that they are just bones left from the GL (As said the bones are all over Tyria however i always thought they put those bones there to make it look like Aranchi and her children had eaten away at something.

There are only 3 Ancient Dragons visible in Guild Wars.

Supposedly, the large spine thing between Dalada Uplands and Grothmar Wardowns is a sleeping dragon. As is the thing under Drakkar lake.

So the D. Uplands sorta kinda makes sense as a drop site for them. Except for the fact that people have poured thousands upon thousands of keys into chests there without producing a single screenshot of one dropping...

[Warning: Pure THEORYCRAFT ahead:]

But... Being a totally random locked-chest/multiple-dungeon-chest drop seems out of place with the other drops. It seems to me that it really should either (a) drop somewhere in Elona like the Serpentine Reaver, or (b) drop from a "home" dungeon chest like the other new items.

If it were an Elonian drop, I'd see 2 big possibilities:
1. Critters that carry shields. Kinda like the ghosts that can be seen carrying the dead sword, perhaps there's a critter somewhere that can be seen carrying the draconic aegis. Harpies, Heket, Kournans, Corairs, Awakened, Ghosts, Djinn are the shield-bearing Elonian species I can think of. I've taken a halfway serious look at Harpies, Heket, and Djinn without seeing it. I'd imagine that SS/LB farmers would have found them by now if Awakened dropped them.
2. Drakes. Lore rationale -- drakes are kinda like small dragons, so maybe they can drop draconic aegises. I tried Drakes on a Plain a few times and came up dry. Haven't tried the Istani drakes in HM. (I also tried farming the drakes in Battledepths, and I came to the conclusion that (1) they don't seem to drop draconic aegises, and (2) they don't seem to drop much else either...)

If it's got a "home" chest, here's my thoughts about the possibilities:
  • Catacombs of Kathandrax - No. Already has a new skin.
  • Rragar's Menagerie - No. Already has a new skin.
  • Cathedral of Flames - No. (1) It's too easy for a such a great skin, and (2) this dungeon gets done a billion times a day, so, if it was there, there'd be a screenshot by now.
  • Ooze Pit - Probably not. Too easy for a such a great skin.
  • Darkrime Delves - Probably not. Too easy for a such a great skin.
  • Frostmaw's Burrow - Possibly. It's long and hard enough I suppose. But there's no lore connection and people do it often enough that, if it was there, there'd probably be a screenshot by now.
  • Sepulchre of Dragrimmar - No. Too easy.
  • Raven's Point - No. Too easy.
  • Vloxen Excavations - Maybe. Seems a bit too easy though.
  • Bogroot Growths - No. Already has a new skin.
  • Bloodstone Caves - No. Too easy.
  • Shards of Orr - Maybe. It's sure hard enough to get a new skin. And it sorta fits with the lore, since it's in/under Orr, where the Orrian Dragon is supposed to be hanging out. And people hate and avoid this dungeon enough that it could be not found yet/a well-kept secret.
  • Oola's Lab - There's a rumor that it's here. However, (1) it seems too easy, and (2) I've done it a bunch (based on aforesaid rumor) and I've got nothing to show for it.
  • Arachni's Haunt - Probably not. Seems to easy. Big-ass bones are common to many places in GW.
  • Slavers' Exile - Maybe. There's an unsubstantiated claim of it on the official wiki. However, (1) it seems odd to put yet another super-rare item in that chest, and (2) that dungeon gets done so much that, if it was there, there'd be a screenshot by now.
  • Fronis Irontoe's Lair - Obviously not.
  • Secret Lair of the Snowmen - Obviously not.
  • Heart of the Shiverpeaks - Probably not. Too easy and gets done so much that, if it was there, there'd be a screenshot by now.
  • FoW - Probably not. It already got 2 new skins and recently gets done so much that, if it was there, there'd be a screenshot by now. Unsubstantiated claim on the official wiki notwithstanding.
  • UW - Probably not. Already has the Eternal Blade and supposedly got the Compass too. Plus it gets done so much that, if it was there, there'd be a screenshot by now. Unsubstantiated claim on the official wiki notwithstanding.
  • Deep/Urgoz - Maybe. But a-net seems to hate Cantha. So I doubt it.
Recap: Assuming it has a "home" dungeon chest in a relatively hard dungeon that didn't already get another skin, I'd probably look in Shards of Orr (yuck), Frostmaw, or Vloxen.

Or, who knows, maybe it really is just a super-rare, super-random drop.

If you'd played Prophecies even a bit you'd know they're all over. I assume they're True Giants or other things.

CoF also has one, I think near the end of level two - the room with the hidden treasures in the lava.

you are correct, facing the door, on the right are some giant bones.

But yeah, those bones are just ment to show that its a nest and that Arachni and its children have eaten hug things *in other words, a horde of spiders live there*.

So far I seen bones or images of the dragons in the following locations

Drakkar lake(Dragon of Corruption) Drakkar, I assume is the Dragon of Ice
Dalada uplands (back of the spine shows)Grothmar, the Water Dragon.
Central transfer chamber (Primordus is the name of the 1st to awaken) Fire dragon
Crystal desert(Undead Dragon of Orr) It says to be the most deadly dragon of them all, so I heard.

4 out of the 7 dragons have been seen so far. So I'm missing three of the ancient dragons. Anyone know where the others are?

I would like to point out, Grothmar is not the name of the Dragon in the middle of the lake, nor do we even know if its a "Water Dragon." Both of those are pure speculations, but that is an Ancient Dragon.

Also, there is a Dragon, called the "Deep Sea Dragon" at the bottom of the sea between Tyria/Elona and Cantha, of course, like the dragon of Orr, we cannot go to it, the last dragons are unknown of location. Also, I would also like to ask where you get 7 dragons. Unless my memory is failing or I missed some update on gw2, I do not remember the amount of Ancient Dragons being said.

There are only 6 known Dragons and thats supposing the Desert Dragon is different from the Dragon located in Grothmar Wardowns (the name "Water Dragon" came from concept art of the dragon itself though thats probably not its final name)

All the dragon naming is speculation except for Primordus, which we have proof of his name from ArenaNet.

Hey guys, ever have the feeling that MAYBE the Charr aren't ancient? MAYBE they weren't around when the dragons walked Tyria? MAYBE they named Grothmar Wardowns after some epic Charr leader? Oh that's right, there's a dragon there and dragons > charr so automatically the area is named after the dragon.

Hey guys, ever have the feeling that MAYBE the Norn aren't ancient? MAYBE they weren't around when the dragons walked Tyria? MAYBE they named Drakkar Lake after some epic Norn leader? Oh that's right, there's a dragon there and dragons > Norn so automatically the area is named after the dragon.

Geez, the naming speculation is a crock of monkey snot (yay Monkey Island quotes).

I would have to say Grothmar is the name of soem old charr. But the Drakkar could be named after the Dragon, seeing the origin of the meaning of Drakkar, which was something like Dragon Ship or something...but I do not think that would be the Dragon's actual name, for now, it's just a "code name" for it.

And Free Runner, thanks for verifying the known amount of dragons, I thought it was 6 not seven with the Desert Dragon and "Water Dragon" being different.

People name the dragons "Drakkar" and "Grothmar" for easier reference. Calling the one located in Grothmar "Water Dragon" sometimes makes people mistake the Grothmar one for the Drakkar one.

The only offical name we have is Primordus. The Drakkar one is only reffered to as "Dragon of Ice and Snow".
