Default Searing - Mechanics and the Future

I was just wondering how exactly the Charr performed the Searing. What do we know about that, was it a huge fire-spell, some ancient ritual or even something to do with technology?

On a side note, how does anyone thing Ascalon will have changed in the 250 years to GW2? I assume the land would recover somewhat over that timescale but do you think it should go back to being as verdant as it was pre-Searing? I'd prefer it to become a sort of grassland/savanha, that would be a much more fitting landscape for Charr to inhabit.

For the first part, I suggest you look here. It is a in depth look at the Charr's participation of the Searing. From the Cauldron of Cataclysm to the effects of the Searing.

As for what it will end up being, it is said somewhere that grass is regrowing - I believe during the time of EN, so it would be the grassland/savanna in GW:EN and some time after. Though I cannot seem to find it.

I'd expect Ascalon to look like a charr version of Pre-searing or the Charr Homelands in GW2.

It was a ritual. The thing they used to create it is a tool called the Cauldron of Catalysm, a powerful item which is able to use destructive magic (aka the Searing), magic that is hinted to being created by the Ancient Dragons.

As for Ascalon i dont exact to see it turned into its former glorious green self but i do expect it will have changed from its current state at least alittle. The flying Dragons breath effect would of at least made sure of that.

Not really. We can't assume everything that was created by ancient entities prior to recorded history was created by the Ancient Dragons.

Not saying by the Ancient Dragons, but it heavily implies either the Ancient Dragons or the Giganticus Lupicus - more of the Ancient Dragons.

Maybe the Forgotten could have inhabited it in Gw2?

Ascalon will be ruled by the Charr. Winnies' post is from the Movement of the World - first sentence of Time and Tide.

"Ancient entities from pre history that fell asleep and became dormant"

The Dragons - Ancient entities from beyond recorded time that at some point went into hybernation and became dormant.

Until we find out that there have infact been a second set of ancient entities from beyond recorded time that fell asleep and have been dormant all this time, the Ancient Dragons are the only contender for the ancient entities who created the magic. Its not me just assuming everything ancient is by the Ancient Dragons, its the fact that the Ancient Dragons are the only thing that fit the description of what the Ecology of the Charr mentions.

You could say theres still the Giganticus Lupicus but there is no proof of them being asleep or dormant at all and as far as we know they disappeared most likely becoming extinct.

From Movement of the World:

"Only a few years ago, yet another dragon erupted from the northern mountains and flew south over the Charr territory of Ascalon. The land directly below the path of the dragon’s flight was corrupted, becoming a crater of horror. The ground blackened from the dragon's presence and any creatures caught within the wind of its breath twisted and changed."

The Charr territory of Ascalon equals present day Ascalon City, correct?

The crater COPULD be from the Searing, or could be from the Dragon....

but it sounds to me like it will "a crater of horror, blackened".

Sorry.

No, Charr Territory of GW2=Charr Homelands and Ascalon except for Ascalon City and the Eastern Frontier (and Ebonhawke).

No, it just says plants are growing - nothing about how much.

It may be mostly barren with the occasional copse or oasis. It could be parched savannah. It could even be greener than it was in pre - after all, as Cynn says, ash helps things grow.

Actually, ash does - it is a good fertilizer, along with poop . However, too much will kill plants.
