One interesting hypothesis that could be applied to the 'federation of ancient races' hypothesis: What if the Mursaat and Seers were two of those races, and the outbreak of hostilities between these to was part of what broke this entente up?
Another thought that strikes me is... there are mentions of old alliances between Dwarves and humans. Did those old alliances have a recorded starting date, or did the forming of those alliances predate recorded memory... possibly actually going as far back as this hypothesised ancient age of cooperation?
And finally... with the indications that the playable races in GW2 are likely to end up being allied... has the Wheel of Time returned to that age?

Ok, here is what you said to prevent flipping between pages:

It makes sense for the forgotten to have dungeons underneath all of tyria (they probably do stretch across all of tyria, we just can't go there).
So all the civilizations evolved and aged and forgot about the ancient civilization.
Just an idea.

Summary: An ancient race (possibly the Forgotten) was spread throughout Tyria, after the race left, the structures were abandoned and at some point in time, other races copied off of this ancient race.
What I said:

- The race was widespread throughout Tyria and Cantha, possibly Elona as well.
- The race predates humanity.
- There are three cases of humanoid statues (see: Humanoid Statues below).
- The structures include steps, so the race most likely had legs.
- The race most likely had a strong control over the elements (questionable) and especially magic.
- The race is not the Asura, Dwarves, or the Forgotten.
- Best known candidate races are the Seer and Mursaat (more favor for the Seers as brought up at the beginning).
- Best overall candidate race is an unknown, now-extinct, race.

Also: There are things to argue - i.e., main points of the research:
- The Depths are of the same origin (i.e., race) - which includes the city of Moladune
- The Ascalonian, Asuran, and Kurzick structures are (apparently highly) influenced by the Depths and thus this ancient race.
- The most likely race being the Seers
|
Summary: The Depths of Tyria was created by an ancient race or group of races (as said in one of my most recent posts, I stated how and why I believe it is in fact a group of races), which are most likely not including the Forgotten, and these structures ended up influencing Ascalonian, Asuran, and Kurzick (possibly more) structures.
So yeah, I did state what you said. Except I excluded the Forgotten due to the stairs.

I thought of this, but didn't bring it up due to Leon's stance of "we know nothing to support this".

I'm sure there is a known date of this, it could just be since the first Guild War in Tyria. The dwarves wanted no say, so they allowed humans to pass through as long as they didn't fight in the Shiverpeaks. That's my guess. Though I doubt the alliance went as far back to alliance which predate humanity. It might have been made because of such a previous alliance.

It may be a possibility. The relationship between the Seer and Mursaat may be viewed like the relationship between Humans and Charr. They started in a war, made peace, and eventually went back into a war (which may be a precursor event to humanity and Charr). Of course, the Charr will be the equivalent of the Mursaat if such a thing occurred

I was about to say "but how do we know humans aren't the Mursaat-equivalents" until I remembered that all we know of the Mursaat suggests that they're like the Charr in how they interact with 'higher' beings, while the Seers, in alliance with Glint, are more likely to share the same masters.
I wouldn't even call it a hypothesis, but it would be amusing if it turned out that the reason the Mursaat were so determined to keep the Door of Komalie closed was because they'd been hoodwinked by the Titans in their own past...

Awesome
great read. I am really interested in the murals throughout the game, so it was really interesting to read this.
