Well, there *is* a Seer at the very end of this cave (who is directly across the frozen lake from the Seer who infuses your armor during the Iron Mines mission).

Now, the Seer in Iron Mines spills the beans about the Mursaat and how the Seer's race has been trying to defeat the Mursaat race, which always struck me as implying that these two races were "not of our (GW's) world".

Perhaps these beacon-type thingies are some sort of teleportation devices which they used to travel here.

This was one of my favourite places in Prophecies. When I first found the ice cave and the dishes, I spent hours trying to get them to do something.

They are so out of context with the rest of the game. The only other even vaguely sci-fi thing I can think of are the crystal desert teleporters, but even these are done in a way that implies more magic than science.

I haven't been there for a while, and might go for a run tonight just for something to do.

I seem to remember something about the roof of the cave there too, but I can't remember what.. It might have looked like it opens or something if you follow the line of site from one of the dishes.. but I can't honestly remember.

I am definitely going back tonight now to have another look.

I cant say I've ever given it much thought. I like how Anet has these curious places dotted all around Tyria, that you can just find and wonder about.

That place for instance is located that far north, that not alot of people even know its there. Its one of the most remote locations in the game, and I expect alot of people here will be thinking "the where now?".

This is why I love propherices so much more for exploring. It has so many more places that are just there for the sake of it. You enter that cave for the first time and you just stand in ore at how cool it all looks.

Its like Grenths palace in the connecting path between north and south shiverpeaks. Unless you explore, you dont know its there.

Its also like the flaming door which is obviously meant to work like a portal, but it doesnt do anthing. You have one end in deep in the Forest and another in the swamps.

You can just tell that more love and attention went into prophercies.

I have 100% on all 3, and I still find bits I've never seen before when I wonder around!

But I also have to agree that I expect alot of this stuff was added, originally with a purpose and it was later just used as scenary.

Me too, and in fact I think that all that wall hugging needed to get Grandmaster Cartographer may well have taken us to every corner of the game, but we were too busy looking at the damn walls and studying the "U" map for missing pixels to enjoy the scenery while we were there!

I too still find things I have never seen before!

On a side note.. Wouldn't it be great if the doors behind Rotscale could finally be opened to reveal a dungeon.

Lastly, this thread really belongs in the Lore section, but it's nice to see a Lore thread getting so much attention too :-)

That is the same door I meant isnt it?

I bet my life it is meant to connect to the same door the is aflame in the swamps. Atleast I hope it is, because it seems cool idea to me.

It looks like a giant spine.
Like some terrible monster died there and the earth swallowed it up long ago.
I bet the Charr live around there.

If you look closely enough, none of those portals are going into it like a structure. I dont think thats a building, I think its just a landmark (like the one in the link).

Those portals are like the ones in nightfall where they dont connect and transport you a short distance over land to the next zone.

And if it was an outpost, it would have an outpost, town or city icon on it, unless this is a map capture from inside the outpost.

It's the remains of a best of burden the gods used to make Tyria.
I made that up!
I could be true.
You don't know!

I did, and it doesn't matter.. the fact that they are on their side implies that something is wrong. The energy coming from them in that way just seems like another reason to interpret them as damaged.

It's the beacon model. It's in the Shiverpeaks. it has blue energy coming from it. And you are saying the fact that the energy is blue bubbles instead of flames makes it something completely different? I.....guess..

Default Connection to the Six Elder Dragons.

Was gonna start a new thread, untill I found this one.

Lyssa's ice cave at Mineral Springs
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Lyssa%27s_ice_cave

I have a Theory;
Quote:
two large diagonal dishes which pulsate with a metallic hum.
The device function: to keep the 6 Elder Dragons asleep using this "metallic hum" type frequency causing a suspended and a hibernated state.

Of course, during this time and before the awakening of the elder dragons, these two large diagonal dishes got damage or lost "magic" power which revert the dragons to arise from their "power nap". he he

I haven't figured out the time line or whom build the 2 dishes.
Only Glint the powerful oracle dragon knows the rest of the story

Good job necro'ing a 4 year old thread... If it's that old, just make a new one imo.. Most of the original posters stopped playing the game by now probably or forgot this shit even existed...

*puts forum moderator cap on*

In contrast, I'd like to say thanks for actually thinking to use the search function.

Interesting hypothesis. I'd consider it in the 'unlikely' department purely because of the location, though, although it would certainly be worth a second look if it turned out to be in a roughly central location to the dragons. As for "who" - considering that there's a statue of Lyssa there, the gods may well be a prime suspect, although it could be that the shrine was placed because it was recognised as a place of strong mesmeric magic (as the source of a magical lullaby keeping at least five godlike dragons snoozing).

When it comes to the dishes being damaged... Have you considered the possibility that the dishes were ALREADY damaged when we find them in game? There isn't a massive gap in time between Prophecies and Primordus beginning to stir as elder dragons reckon time, after all, and there are a lot of ways that the site or its power supply could have been disrupted prior to our reaching the Southern Shiverpeaks - collateral damage in the Guild Wars or the dwarven civil war when one side or the other took refuge there and the other assaulted them, somebody trying to study them or steal their power and breaking them in the process, or even shockwaves, physical or magical, from the Searing and/or the Cataclysm.

Good theory on "the gods being prime suspects". Thank you.
Perhaps, as you have commented, the location "place of strong memseric magic" was the best area to expand the frequence throughout Kryta to keep the dragons at bay.

It's a possibility, the lore doesn't give much to investigate.
I am questioning the reason for the low bass hum that the dish discharges, with the connection to the elder dragons. If my theory is correct.

I like how you are taking this theory deeper.

Adding your comments, Draxynnic with GW2 wiki; maybe the dish were damaged or drained of it's power in 1120 AE.

Like to read other people constructive opinions with this theory, and/or should perhaps forward this thread onto gw2guru2.com ?

I find it facinating to pursue or discover the "easter eggs" in GW1 that relates to GW2 (eg. picture of Kralkatorrik found in the Charr lands, posted above)
