You have to be grouped. One person to pull the level, the other to zone in. When one zones in, they both do. And honestly, you'll need two people out there anyway.
If you're tired of the low-level mobs, why not just go on ahead to the academy and get to the real game?

If you have your secondary profession and have run one or two of the first quests talk to the guy standing right next to Tydus in Ascolon City. He'll say something about not being able to come back or what-not.
Ah, nevermind, it IS Tydus. Don't know why I thought it was the other guy.

You're level 7, so it's a good time to get on with the Searing.
Make sure you've done all your primary/secondary skill quests though. In the beginning area you can unlock 4 secondary skills total (as far as I know) and 6 primary skills.
Don't skip those, they may not be available for quite some time, and some of those skills become incredibly useful when you get the hang of how they work.

It's amazing how many people don't realize they are in the intro/tutorial until they go to the Academy. Those are probably the same people who rag on the game on forums for not having enough content!
The fun is just starting Mortificator!

Arrghh!
I wish I had know that last night.
Someone took me there on a mission, didn't tell me I couldn't go back.
Now I guess I have to start over to get back to pre-academy.
Couldn't the game tell ALL party members the mission instead of just one?

To me, this is a testament to how awesome the game is. The tutorial section is often mistaken for a WHOLE GAME! (even if a small one).
