When you first enter that area, have your whole group dash to the right and help the larger white mantle group - keep them safe....it doesn't matter too much about the group on the left as they always were a smaller force. Kill off the undead that have now probably killed the white mantle on the left.
Then try to lure the undead up the ramp to the remaining group of white mantle. If you're going with henchies, *Don't* press space to attack the enemy, just "brush" the enemy with the edge of your grey aggro circle.
I took about 7 or 8 tries too, myself. The worst was an uncoordinated group, to tell the truth. After 2 disastrous attempts with real players (for some of whom strategy was a strange and foreign word), I did it with my warrior with just the ranged henchies.
Once you've cleared out the group of skeleton mesmers and rangers and healed/resed up again, you can start to advance into the swamp, making sure that no-one stands in the water unnecessarily.
I've heard that there is a way of blocking these reinforcements, but when I've tried to stop what I think is the reinforcement column, I've always died horribly.
If you're playing with a group, however, teamwork is what you need...and lots of it! A smiting monk would also be good, although some healing is also needed because of the swampy water.
Once you've started to advance into the swamp, I think the victory condition is to kill the boss there (and also, I think, the accompanying necrid horseman).
