Grenth's Balance is more interesting than I thought it would be. Even if you're fully healed, it still damages up to your maximum health anyway.
|
Does not! It sucks up the difference between your CURRENT health and the enemy's. Wait.... a thought is coming... If that dragon has 1000 hp and I have 480... (1000-480)/2 = 520/2 = 260 damage, or am I mad? Now that I read the skill description on the skill listings page of this site, I see that it can indeed be read to mean that, although I've never tried using it when my health was completely full on an enemy that has more hp than me. I always wait until i am almost dead then use it on the most healthy fighter, but never was I able to get more than 100 health from it. Maybe it's cuz fighters have ~500hp. So (500-100)/2 = 200. Yeah...
Anyhow, I'm going to try using Grenth's Balance on some other creature with tons of hp, and see if it indeed works. If it does - it's by far the most inexpensive and powerful damage-dealing skill, possible the BEST skill for a necromancer to have.
PS: I'm pretty sure the description on the skill listing page is wrong, since it actually costs 10 energy points, not 15, and I'm pretty sure the recharge time is 30 seconds, not 60.

I captured Greneth's Balance just before going to face Glint for the first time. Indeed, it cut the health down 50% on first cast... my Mesmer interrupt skills combined with echo'd Chaos Storm (300 damage over 10 seconds) took care of the rest. It wasn't until later that I read it was supposed to be a tough fight, lol.

I used Grenth's Balance with full health and it took offf 406 hp from glint. Only about she had about half heal at the time. We had 7 people, and managed to kill her on our first try, but we did get lucky and had 3 monks + 2 secondary monks. Fight took a long time though for us. As I think I ended up using that spell like 8 times before she died. Our poor warrior just held the egg and ran in circles the whole match lol.

Glint isn't that difficult. Just tried it today with a monk friend of mine, my me/e and 6 henchmen. I only got Lina and not Alesia thinking I'd better get a damaging henchman and I mostly had fire magic. Bringing her health down to lower than half was easy but then she started casting her regenaration spell. All my fire magic were useless then. She couldn't kill us either however.
I'm sure with 3 or 4 interrupts and some energy depletion she'll be easy. As for backfire, I don't think it will do much good. She doesn't cast spells too often and 119 damage isn't that much for such a creature anyway.

Am Down!!
W/Mo, beaten the game and have my 15k dragon armor w/ some sick weapons that do 40-100dmg per skill VS high armor.
IGN: Da Cebuano
will be on at around 5pm 2day 6/18 I want to kill her for pwning me twice. I had a good group go w/ me who unfortunately didn't understand the part where YOU DONT ATTACK GLINT W/ ANY MAGIC DURING HYBERNATION, we could've easily owned her had one warrior didn't drop, also, use ice weapons only when no hybernation, during hybernation, switch to other non ele weapons. Anyway, PM me, I want in on this, or another group if 1st group is full.
Then afterwards we can all go farm underworld

Glint is the bonus for that mission, and also I think is the hardest enemy in the game.

Be kind to your warriors! Use a protection to keep your warrior alive. Just have him stand there holding the egg (she always attacks the person holding the egg) and just keep casting protection on him/her. Have everyone else do their thing and have the warrior call her spells so people can stop attacking at the approriate times.

You can drop the egg, once the bonus has started, so you can take full advantage of shields etc..

People would rather take my Warrior primary when there are 3 other warriors already in the group against a caster boss rather than my Mesmer. Sometimes you really have to pinch yourself to understand how clueless most people who play the game are.
|
I started playing a Mesmer myself because there were so few. People don't "see" the effects of amesmer so they don't understand it. A Mesmer's job is to weaken the enemy. Warrior's don't have to work as hard.
In Hell's Precipece Mission I was playing my monk. We had to monk and people started dying. Guess what? The Monks got the blame.
I kept saying, "We need Mesmers!"
"?"
"?"
"?, You just need to heal more!"
"We can't out heal their buffs. The buff are what's killing us. you need mesmers to remove buffs and cause damage while doing it."
"Mesmers weaken the enemy."
They still didn't get it. That whole mission I was spamming Mend Condition. The mission took 4 hours to complete. It would have been dont in 2 had we had a Mesmer.
Best advice for a Mesmer is to make up your own groups. Team up with all least one Ranger to pull and target enemies.

I understand that you can drop the egg, but as long as you're holding the egg Glint will solely attack you. Using protection on the person holding the egg also negates the loss from not using a shield since you can only lose 10% of your health at a time.

I completely forgot to mention Glint's stance she uses vs melee users. It's a DPS reflect damage type stance that will shred melee, so be careful there when she uses it. The name eludes me something bout crystal skin or what not.

an interrupt mesmer screws her up well and truly, just make sure you never let her cast crystal regen, and get someone with Grenths. i ran up to her with my necro, took loads of damage from that rough crystal skin and then Grenth'd - did 654 damage, which was nice

I think the skill is Crystal Skin Formation that takes off 100 damage per hit (melee), in which makes her very tough without knock-down or interrupt skills
