I got to level 9 in pre searing before xp became next to impossible to get.I found one way is to run from Ascalon city and kill The Bull (level 5).You will get 100 xp then travel back to Ascalon City and repeat. It gets very boring but the xp came very fast.

Hey, does the Academy PvP give you any exp? If so, I could just keep doing that, then leave right after the battle .

I think the River Drake in that area is also level 5. Or you could just get another player to help you go north of the wall and fight the charr.

I still have a character in pre-searing. I've mentioned this before in other posts, but I'll say it again. I enjoy having a chracter in pre-searing so I can go back and visit. I really like the look of pre-searing. I also like helping out players new to the game, so I figured the best place for that is in the pre. Those are the main reasons, others would be finding out what the rabbit is all about, it's fun cleaning out north of the wall, would like to find out what that rabbit is about. Check out any new updates that change pre-searing, and figuring out that rabbit!

I wouldn't waste your time with this unless it's a personal goal. They recently patched it so that you could keep playing your character past level 16 in pre-searing so obviously, someone made it to that level and their character got broken.
I made the trip to post-searing @ level 11. I hunted the Northlands solo and that's where I got most of my experience.

How do you hunt the Northlands solo?
Anyways, the attached picture shows a route that leads through some hulking stone elementals, all level 3. It's an easy run, and if you collect the enchanted stones you get gold up to the platinums(if you level up to 9 or so on them).

Patience and tactical thinking.
I did it as a Ranger/Necro, though I didn't really use any Necromancer skills.
The roaming death squads I pulled to the monk when I could. Sometimes they'd get stuck in meshes and I picked them off from a distance.
The temple area required tactical hunting with regards to taking down targets in a certain order.
It wasn't all that hard once you start doing it a few times.

How do you pull to the Monk? Whenever I try it, I get pegged off before I make it half-way. Either that, or I outspeed them, and they go back to where they were.

Well, I mean...seriously HOW do you do northlands solo...? Is there some entrance to it where you don't need 2 people? Or do you just get someone to come along, open the gate and then leave while you get XP?

I get people to open the gate and then they leave after I get inside.

Currently I'm doing this as a Monk. I've only done one quest and that was saving Gwen (500 experience) so that I could get access to skills. I JUST turned level 7.
A good run, especially for a monk, is to take a trip to the level 5 boss in the catacombs (you go through a moderately long corridor of level 1 and 3 undead). Also, with the new change to bosses giving 2x the experience, it becomes very much worth it.
I'm also doing a side project of 0 deaths.
Oh, and I noticed they added 4 more NPC's to the Northlands area. I can't solo the area with my monk (and keep 0 deaths), but I bet I'd have a MUCH easier time with my ranger.

Level 8 now. At this point, I only gain experience from level 3 and above.
There's plenty of level 3 creatures to go hunt, but @ 16 XP a pop (and I need 6140 to get to 9) it's just not worth the effort.
Level 4 creatures? Just not enough of them and when you do find a small cluster, it takes a while to get to them.
Level 5. There's two Melandru's Stalkers out in Regent Valley, but the time walking back and forth from the warp zone would kill you. There are 4 level 5 charr that you can go after in the Charr at the Gates quest (you can abandon the quest and keep re-doing it), but unless you do most of the damage you won't get the experience (so you leave Rurik behind and do it solo). This would require 26 trips (48 experience each + kill the level 5 bull on the way out), doable but still a MAJOR pain in the ass.
Level 6. Only in the Northlands.
Level 7. None.
Level 8. Only in the Northlands.
Level 9. None.
Level 10. The end and 4 of them in the Northlands.
So, that brings us to hunting in the Northlands. It's doable, even solo, but if you're someone (like me) that's trying to see how far you can go without dying.. it's suicide.
I will say this though, the best run I've found for going from 1 to 8 has been the catacombs (a specific run that leads you to a level 5 boss). At level 7, I was getting 18% of my 'experience needed to level' from each run and a run is only 15 minutes long.
..and lastly..
I have a good collection of dye and 1.8 plat from this

I'm doing the 5 level 5's over and over and let me tell you, it's sloooooooow and borrrrrrrring and annoyyyyyyying.
Unless you can solo the Northlands at level 8 (probably only a ranger or healing warrior can do this without dying; anyone willing to die ALOT can do this), I feel level 8 is the sanity limit (level 9 DEFINITELY would be (again, keep in mind, I'm also trying NOT to die)).

I'm also at Level 8 now with my Necro . I've only done the initial 3 quests, meaning Message for a Friend, War Preperations and Necromancer Trainer, only because I thought they were necessary to bring out the first Necro Trainer.
I also have all my skills (by talking to the person, then abandoning the quest) plus a level 8 Warthog.
I've started partying with other people to level in the Northlands, and that works surprisingly well. Me and an E/Mo managed to take down two of the bosses. Need another 2k to reach 9.
A fun tip for anyone with Blood Renewal. You can use it to drag the Academy Monk anywhere you want, with enough coaxing.
Right now, my character looks like this:
Blood - 7
Soul Reaping - 2
Vampiric Gaze
Vampiric Touch
Life Siphon
Blood Renewal
Faintheartedness
Troll Ungent
Comfort Animal
Charm Animal
Plus 2.3 Plat, 2 silver dyes, 2 reds, 3 blues, and Minor Death and Axe Mastery Armours.

That Blood Renewal is a nice trick. Wish I had known about that, or thought of it, when I was soloing as my ranger. Would have saved me a TON of time. Nice!
I'm halfway to 9, figure about another 13 trips to those damned charr (5 of 5). What I do is get them to stand on one side of the hill while I Banish and Bane them to death. Slow going, but only way I can moderately prevent death.
If it wasn't for this 0 death attempt I'm doing, I'd be spending all my time in the Northlands.
You may want to consider dropping your Ranger secondary and go for Monk secondary. Not sure what you'll get, but I suspect at least one healing, one attack, and not sure the other. That'll give you a little bit more umph while only suffering a little on your health regen.
HOWEVER!
Without a pet, your soloing in the Northlands will be INCREDIBLY tough as your pet can help you shake aggro when you need to.

Yeah, I actually don't have a secondary yet, so I can switch it around as much as I want. The pet really helps when I'm dragging patrols to the NPCs though, as they generally try to kill it first.
And thanks for pointing out those Charr at the gate. As fun as the Northlands is, it's tough to find good partners, or people that will just leave me there.
EDIT: Hmm, with those Charr at the gate, would it work to run to the top of the Gate and spam skills like Bane signet and Banish? Or would they still hit you/be out of range?

Yeah, I know what you mean
I'll look into going to the top of the gate and see what happens with the charr.
My route takes me to the bull, then from the bull, I run straight to the charr. I run against the side of this hill and I draw them back towards it and I hide around a corner.
The axe/blade charr will follow me, but they're easy to take out 1-on-1. The rest of the charr will hang back trying to attack me through the hill.

Banish/Bane'ing them from the top of the wall won't work. They just run up to your area.
I'm 9 now, 6720 experience from 10. That's 43 trips to this area. Oi!
