Riverside Mission Bonus solo?
Has anyone been able to do the secondary quest for the riverside mission with henchmen?
Personally I prefer soloing missions because it is hard to find a pickuup grp. When grouping with people I tried over 20 times and always someone ignores the warning of needing coordination and pulls a dozen or so mobs, causing a group wipe.
Finallly I gave up and tried with henchmen, failing over 30 times. Yeah, pretty embaressing...anyways, the best I did was make it to the 8th tower before finally pulling too many at once and dying. Does anyone have any specific tactics for taking the towers aside from the fact that a lot of patience is needed to pull enemies in smaller groups? I think I know most of the patrol patterns of the mantle guys by heart, but in some cases, it's just not possible to catch them in groups smaller than 5 or so, and usually this means byebye.
Anyhow, if anyone has any advice to help, especially elementalist (my class) tactics it would be wonderful. My anal need to complete all the missions has me pulling what's left of my hair out!

Is this the mission where you are not supposed to fight? Read the mission log, I think you are meant to avoid the enemy. You can basically run through the whole mission, cept for a few undead.

The riverside bonus is to eliminate all the watchtower guard. Your best shot would be to try find a lvl 20 bonus group who are currently back to just do the bonus.

Sure you can. It's no harder than with humans but it is more time consuming. But do me a favor, it's a pet peeve really, stop using "solo" to mean you plus a handful of computer-controlled teammates. Solo means you. Just you. No hench. =)
As I said it takes a while longer and requires a little planning with hench (as it always does). The best way I can think of would be trigger the tower alarm, let them all come running in... you back off. as the Mantle spread out looking for you, divide and conquer, take 2 or 3 at a time. This gets those tight mass guys to break up into manageable bits. 20 times. Damn. That's a lot!
For killing the first tower so the girl gives you the bonus, start by going counterclockwise around the tower, take out the first 3 man patrol, then the one guy by himself, continue around (avoiding the tunnel so you don't trigger the undead) and get the next 3... then bait the tower and retreat. The only really tricky tower is the one in the swamps where it's on a hill/mound. They have a severe advantage here and those arrow hurt. If you wait till the last second to back off, you will be a corpse. The two at the end aren't hard unless you let the hench charge. In which case you'll get way too much aggro to survive. Just go slow and draw them back set by set; you'll be fine.
Because of the way height is dealt with in GW, you can melee the tower guys, and you can get any items up there. Align yourself so that when you engage you will cause the hench melee guys to run up the tower stairs; from here they can hit em even though they are 20' above. (and holding Alt down, you can get items this way too. don't leave a gold bow behind!)
It's going to take a really long time this way. Allocate at least an hour and a half for doing it.
Have fun!
