What Now?
Ding-dong the lich is dead!
Which old lich? The wicked old lich!
Ding-dong the wicked old lich is dead!
Yes, I finally beat the game today. It was fun, relatively fufilling, had a few plotholes... but whatever. Now I find myself sitting around Draknor's mumbling "what do I do now?" to myself.
Now, I'd -love- to get into some PvP, and actually redesigned my character during the last few missions to do just that. Unfortunately, I have no idea what how the Tomb of Primevial Kings, or whatever it's called, is supposed to work. The Hall of Heroes? How do I get there? How does GvG work? None of this is really in the manual (none of the how do I get there, how do I start stuff, anyway).
Also, I was surprised that there wasn't even a bit of a lead-in into the Fissure of Woe or Underworld that I keep hearing about. I know you're supposed to go to the Temple of Ancients and pay the avatars, but what do I find when I get there? Tough enemies, I know, but also... armor crafters? Huh? Is there a city down there? Or is he standing aimlessly in the middle of a sea of monsters like your average artisan? Will I be slaughtered on entry, or can I pop in, thumb through the various quests and look at the shiny armor, and pop out?
Anyone want to give me a run-through on what I should do to get to some of the more prestigious PvP and PvE areas?

Tombs is north of the dragons lair area.... join a party of 8 and win some battles in tombs (ive heard the average is 6 or so to enter hall of heros) Guild vs guild requires you to be in a guild with a guild hall.. from there you just hit enter mission. TOA is west of lions arch through the black curtain (about 2 areas away).

Start another PVE character and play it again with something new youve been wanting to try. Youll be surprised how fast you can actually go through it the second time, then the third time, and omg 4th time is like in a day.
I have in order of creation:
El/Ne - first starter char (around 90 hrs to do the game)
Mo/Me - Everyone needs a healer build (around 40 hrs to do the game)
War/El - very fun build and play style! (around 50 hrs to do the game)
Ne/Ra - Wanted to unlock ranger skills, but omg is nec primary fun to play. (10 hrs now, not quite done)

Plural of bonus is bonuses... Prove me wrong.
To get to all of the other places, search around the forums and look for the maps that people have made. Or ask around in game for people to help you get to these places/

If you absolutely have to be a grammar nazi on Internet discussion forums, at least get your facts straight.

bo·nus Audio pronunciation of "bonus" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (bns)
n. pl. bo·nus·es

There are four PvP areas for lvl20 characters:
Competitive Arena - This is in Lion's Arch. When you enter it, press the Enter Mission button and you get randomly assigned to a team to fight a 4v4 battle. Most of the time, you just have to kill the other team before they kill you. In one map, you respawn every 30 seconds and you have to get more kills than the other team before the time runs out.
Team Arena - This is in Droknar's Forge. It's the same as Lion's Arch, except you form a team of 4 before you enter the mission. This allows you to play with friends or guildies, instead of a random team. It has the same maps, except in addition, there is one map where you both teams have a priest that will make you respawn every 2 minutes (just like Thirsty River). The first team to kill the priest and the other team will win.
Tomb of Primevil Kings - This is in Dragon's Lair. You form a team of 8 before entering into it. There are several different maps, all the way from 8v8 to 8v8v8v8v8v8. As you win, you go into progressively higher maps, up until the Hall of Heroes. If you win in the Hall of Heroes, your area (Europe, America, Korea) gets closer to having Favor.
Guild Battles - If you are in a guild, your guild can buy a guild hall, which only can be entered by people in your guild. If you go there, your guild can form a team of 8 and play an 8v8 match that improves your guild rating and rank on the ladder (go to guildwars.com and click on ladder). There are various maps, but the objective on each is to kill the Guild Lord.

At the Temple of Ages, if your area has Favor, you can pay 1k to a spirit to get transported to the UW (Grenth) or FoW (Balthazar). Form a team of 8 players before venturing there. UW and FoW have the best drops in the game, the hardest monsters in the game, and the most rewarding quests in the game (minimum 5k experience, usually 10k). In addition, FoW has an armor crafter who can craft very expensive armor. It isn't any different than Droknar's Forge armor, it just looks cooler. UW and FoW are fun and challenging. Make sure that you follow your teammates instructions to the letter. Do NOT talk to any NPCs until your teammates say that it's okay. Otherwise, mobs will spawn, or NPCs will move somewhere, or some other event will happen, that may make it very difficult to move on.

Yes, thank you. That was so pertinent to the topic at hand. Seriously, what's your problem? Why criticize my spelling and grammar in a forum where half the posters (yourself included, bucko) don't even capitalize their sentences? If you simply must criticize my spelling or grammar, at least answer one of my questions while doing so. Actually, scratch that. If you're going to criticize my spelling and grammar at least make sure it's correct first. Why don't you do us all a favor and take your "boni" and go lick an electrical socket or something.
Anyway, with that unpleasantness out of the way, I'd like thank those of you whose responses were not smug or baseless. I'd especially like to thank theclam for the short guide he posted. If any of you are interested in showing a newish player the ropes regarding FoW, UW, the various PvP areas, or if you just want to go skill capping and need another hand, please feel free to add me to your friends list.
Thanks again. See you in the arena.
