Found it much easier to get a good group for this than for Thunderhead.
Mind you, they'd had to be able to coordinate past Thunderhead to get here...
I did it first try, with our monkery coming from one player healer, and Lina.

I just had my first go with henchies, since there were practically no players at the mission base. I died a few times, but from all that killing I got my DP reduced from -30% or so to +2.. we got through to the portals, took our time and moved on, but somehow Rurik just owned us. A few strikes and everyone was down. Maybe it was due to the fact the the pulling sucked and he came down to attack when the Fists and Hands were still around.. but anyhoo I'm fairly positive about doing this, since the first run got me that far.
Any pointers about the fight with the Lich? Kill minions first?

Key is to go slow and pull - then focus fire on one target. I always bring a bow to pull no matter what class I am in case we don't have a ranger. I have completed the mission with both only henchies and also with a PUG. If the PUG cannot focus on one target at a time, then you are doomed. I usually attack imps first, then titan>ashen>hand&fist - all from the same spawn, then attack the next titan. Need to minimze number of enemies casting at you at the same time.

Get a ranger to bring Winter, and have an elementalist or two spec to Water. It makes the mission rediculously easy.

Learned a life lesson on this mission...
Did it with henchmen, after trying about four times with PUG's and three more with henchies. Fourth try was the charm. Decided to go right instead of crossing that 2nd bridge where all the PUG "honcho's" were saying. Made it through fine, got to the portals, shut 'em down by judicious pulling, then got to the undead warrior boss. Tried pulling in the hands/fists and imps, but he came too. Party wipe, save Lina. Game over, right?........
WRONG!! For some inexplicable reason the boss ignored Lina and returned to his perch. The rest of the baddies followed suit. She rezzed the party, and we went in much more carefully this time. And when we got that bugger alone we wiped the floor with him, then went and abused on the Lich. Only had to kill him twice.
So, the lesson? When killing someone, make sure they're DEAD!!

my favorite mission
i love doing it over and over again , just for the pure fun of it , best teams are when im the only one that have done it , people are so afraid , people just dont move ..
its beautifull
sometimes , yes , there are some w/mo running in front and die ... but after a while they calm , becose of major DP ..
yes its boring , mobs rez many times , but imo i think its a very good lesson for team work ...
people must really focus on target , and stick together ...

Ya, and if wishes were horses ...
This and related party issues are why I have 3 toons at the second fire mission, and have never bothered to go past that. It's also the single best arguement for UAS there is.

I haven't done that one w/ henchies, but for Hell's I usually go henchmen heavy, one to three PCs, but at least one ranger with winter and it's very easy.

Um.. I either must be lucky, or my peops are good.. I did this mission and bonus first time with a guild/pug mix.
Both times we had one player monk and one npc monk, and 6 other players.
Just start the group yourself and filter incoming people. Good one I use is add "PST for invite" at the end of the ad, if they dont whisper you and just do a self-invite, ignore them, they cannot follow instructions.

After reading the previous posts I would like to add to the "take it slow" comments. I completely agree with that thought. The final mission is challenging but not too difficult if you have a group that is willing to advance slowly, pull monsters to a safe area to fight 1 at a time, and take the time to regen health/energy before continuing.
The first time I went through I lucked out to find such a group. The PUG started at RoF and enjoyed each others' tactics so well, we decided to play the next two missions in a row. Here's the setup we had:
W/Mo --> MT w/defensive setup. Had a bow, pulled targets to the group
W/Mo --> MA called targets. *Extremely* helpful to call targets.
W/E --> Assisted MA with damage, pulled stray monsters off monks.
Mo/W --> Smiter. Holy damage seemed very good in these missions.
Mo/Me --> Main healer. Also cast protection as necessary.
Mo/W --> Secondary healer who cast protection spells also.
N/E --> I used Well of Power when possible and Blood Rit on the casters.
E/Mo --> Nuker who took out many of the tower monsters.
I included the setup not because I think it's the "perfect" party (I could see where Winter would be very helpful in these missions) but so you could see how the party dynamic worked. One w/mo pulled monsters back to a safe area so we could kill them one at a time as much as possible. Being the Main Tank, he took most of the damage which made it much easier for the monks to keep up. The Main Assist called targets so we knew what to attack first. The W/E watched the HP of all us casters. If anyone (especially the monks) suddenly spiked she ran to help get the monster off the monk. The monks spent less time worrying about their survival and more time healing the party. I made sure the monks and elementalist had plenty of energy during battles and tossed around some Wells of Power for good measure. The Ele used a lot of AoE spells to take out groups as well as destroyed monsters in towers so we were not taking unnecessary damage.
Why do I think this party worked? We made sure we all communicated well (call targets, note energy levels, mention "I'm using ____ skill on Soandso!"). We took it slow enough that everyone could regen HP/EP between battles but fast enough to avoid boredom. I feel terrible for you Pandora and hope you find a group as excellent as mine was. I think everyone deserve to experience such wonderful cooperation. This made the last mission less of a chore and more of an enjoyable gaming session. On a side note we did have one wipeout that only the healer monks survived (we missed a patrol that wandered into aggro range) but a total of six deaths over three missions is pretty good. At the end I admit I was a little disappointed that the story ended so abruptly, but the sense of accomplishment was great.
Was it worth it? Absolutely.

Please tell me it doesn't get WORSE after Thunderhead Keep. I've been trying to complete that for a couple of days and the only thing I hear are: "LFG with min two Monks!", "Good group needs two Monks!", "Monks only!", etc. etc.
After you finally get in a group the King dies or we get swarmed.
It doesn't get worse......does it?

I think thunderhead is harder than any of the island missions simply because you don't have to deal with the king and you can mostly control aggro.

i think the missions dificulty is not linear , its supose to get harder , but i think it only depends on the party you get ... you know , doing a mission with people that never did is completely diferent to do it with someone that as done it and is a good leader ..
another game
