Ultimate Challenge: Pass Ring of Fire mission with henchman only!
I'd love to se someone do this, I keep reading over and over again that you can pass every mission with henchman, and I call BS on this one, So I'd give ya a cookie or something if you could pull this one off with you and 7 henchies.
well i just tried it with henchies, but got wiped by some fire imps just before reaching the temple...got through the billion mursaats at the beginning np.
I have done every other mission with henchies except thirsty river though.
Passing Ring of Fire mission with hencies is possible
I did this mission with hench only, and my char is a W/Mo. It's easier than a human party IMHO. You know why? Because there is no death penalty for henches so they can die over and over while the baddies once gone, they are gone forever. So all it takes is patience. With henchies you can take your time, wait and plan strategy and regroup if needed. Lure baddies with henchies is difficult, but is possible, just keeps clicking your name bar. But to pass this mission with henchies YOU HAVE GOT TO BE A MONK, either as primary or secondary. The key is to draw baddies out group by group, away from ethel ring. Destroying minions before attacking boss. With patience and tons of rez, you can do it.

Im still playing by henchmen only so bs all ya want. It works, you just have to have tennacity. Many of the quests and missions I end up with -60% or more on my party from dying so much, but I always, in the end, succeed.
I have far fewer worries with henchmen than human beings who join the party, leave town, then leave the GAME because they die, before I or the bot can raise them. Also the bots do not smother me with inane babble about thier day out of game.
Well... I dont really know what to say... I only bought the game yesterday and Ive been doing most the quests solo, thats right no other players and no henchies either. Why u ask? because I get more experience and loot this way. Im already a level 10 Elementalist/Mesmer with 3 rare items and the best armour I've come across so far.
Most the quests are pretty easy to do solo if u take your time and dont get too many aggro at once (killing multiple bosses for a high morale boost really helps too)
Pretty sure your not talking about the fire in the north quest since Ive done that one... when I get to the "ring of fire" one Ill let you know how I go.
Maccas, I as my practically unkillable W/Mo build with elites, high end armor, at level 20, full attributes, could not do most of the quests even past Ascalon solo, not without alot of extra time on my hands to do single pulls from linked groups, wearing down enemies and fighting before they refill. Quests, sure plenty are doable, but once again exploration can become difficult as hell through most locations. Experience, you get plenty of it I assure you, it isn't hard to be 20 before you ascend just rushing through with a group, and you're automatically once you do ascend. Plus loot, early stuff, never equals later items, I can come back to Droknar's Forge and make 5k without breaking much of a sweat.
As for Ring of Fire solo, I'm doubtful you could take a Burning Titan if you could get just one, we're talking about groups of 8 having difficulty, these are the last and often hardest missions in the game.
As for it with henchmen, I've heard people coming into Forge proclaiming they've just beaten it, I doubt it is really close to impossible, I just don't see the real use, beating missions like that is all about patience, I'd rather finish it without a death in just over an hour.

i think i understand...you're still in pre-searing ascalon aren't you? if you're not in pre-searing still, you probably just got out.
in case you weren't aware...pre-searing ascalon is not the game...it's the tutorial.
Don't let the pace of the tutorial fool you...i can get an alt from 0 to 5 in about an hour, and from 5 to 10 in another 2 or 3...wait till you get to lvl 19 and try to ascend...those are the first missions that could be called hard.
another by the way...missions are not quests.

There are death penalties for npc? Hmmm...it's really hard to tell and honestly, I haven't noticed their being any weaker with dying. This is after playing with them for three weeks now. Are you sure?
I really think there is a DP for the henchies. When they start to die, they not only die quicker afterward, but can be healed with a lesser spell by my Monk. I'm not positive about this, but I am pretty sure they have a DP.
After who knows how many fails on RoF with player-teams, I decided to give it a run with the henchie-squad ... and although it took quite a bit of time it was most definitely doable ... and no, i'm not a monk at all, but a n/w. All it took was spam casting well of blood in the areas with the spiders and imps, the biggest challange of all simply being trying to convince the henchie-squad that it's not such a good idea to fight while burning alive from standing in the middle of a lava pool
Heh, I always claim henchmen to be dumb, useless morons (excuse my French) but it took me about 10 tries to get the Ring of Fire done with humans.
I do it once with henchmen, and voila, I steal the elite I wanted from the Lavaspitter, cross the whole volcano, I can time my attacks, nobody will quit because they have to eat/sleep/whine/cry. Just perfect.
Abaddon's Mouth seems to be a whole lot easier, but that may because the people that can't do the Ring of Fire, never will be able to if they keep up the same 'strategy' (read: rushing). Great weed machine. It was only because our party couldn't take out the Monk boss because none of us could interrupt it's Orison: we failed.
Well, the next try was succesful, even though I had little faith in the party (the only spellcaster was a W/E, Monk didn't have offensive spells). There was little communication but everybody did what he/she was supposed to do. We were very patient, I lured the mobs and we slaughtered them. Once we got to the Monk boss, I interrupted it's Orison of Healing and he went poof: we succeeded.
I haven't tried this with Henchmen, but I don't think you'll need to.. Once you get this far, there are hardly any noobs left because they're all stuck at Thunderhead / Ring of Fire.

I did Ring of Fire today with just henchies. To me the two toughest spots were: 1) Right at the beginning, if you get swamped by the Mursaat, the henchies are dead. Had to try a few times. 2) And at the main gate, which was rather tough. I lured the guys standing there, killed them, and then just went slowly taking out one ether seal at a time, resting, going back, etc.
Usually after killing each seal there was one hench dead, but they could be resurrected. After getting inside the main gate the rest of the mission was very easy. Also I got wiser from one earlier attempt and took Savage slash with me to interrupt the Mursaat Monk boss' Orison of healing - and a few succesful interrupts turned the tides on that one.
Now off to Abaddon's mouth to try, if it can be done with henchies too...
Best I've done with henchmen is popping the first 2 seals on the guarded doorway (which is easier than the path Mr. Scepter Man suggests). I've gotten that far once with 7 henchmen (I quit at that point, forget why now) and a few times with 6 hench and another player (it's easier to manage henchies with 2 people sometimes).
Abaddon's Mouth is possible with henchmen -- I've done bonus with them. I've also completed Hell's Precipice + bonus with henchmen.
