Here it is, as i see it....
Farmers (including myself) had stockpiled huge amounts of gold max weapons.
ArenaNet nerfed farmers.
ArenaNet introduced better weapons (green) than the farmers had previously stored.
Everyone is on a level playing field.
While still useful, the gold items that were stockpiled will no longer make ex-farmers/farmers uber rich.... well, at least not as rich as pre-update.
This is the smartest thing that ArenaNet did.

Am I the only one with brains on this entire forum?
Most green items aren't that great, and some aren't that easily found either. Gold items are still very useful if they're good enough, so don't throw them away or anything..

IMO, green items makes no sense. They are just gold items with max dmg and a determined bonuses that are always maxed. Their drop rate is uber high, so aquiring one is pretty easy. Look at me, i have less than one week of playing GW and i already have max dmg bow 15>50 health +30. (Boulderbeard's Short Bow)
What i would have done is to introduce a new class of items but instead of having 3 bonuses and maxed, having 4 and random values, also their drop rate much more lower... aren't they suposed to be unique items? c'mon in one day and a half you could see like 4 ppl selling them at Droknar's, and by now "everybody" in the War Camp has at least one green item...
Somebody said 'this is Guild Wars, not Market Wars'. Well, there is PvP, and PvE here. In PvE one of the most, not to say the most, important faction of the game are items and skills, thus market is kind of backbone of the PvE. There are play styles as many as people playing GW, each one plays the game in his own way, and some people like to go farm for items and then sell them for the highest price they could, or build alternative characters with those self found uber weapons. Some other simply like to see grow their platinum stack and go trading to the limit.
You should all agree that green items, as how we know them at the moment, have partially nerfed PvE gameplay, and of course market itself.

Oh...My...God!
FINALLY somebody gets it. *wipes a tear away from his eye*
There are people that stockpiled LOADS and LOADS of gold from farming shortly after release. Then when Anet swung the bat and farming became pointless/difficult a huge gap formed between the haves and the have nots. These "haves" were "old money" and held complete dominance over the ingame market/economy. Prime example: People are offering 100-300k for certain items now. Good luck amassing any semblance of that amount as a new player now.
The fix? Lower the need for aquiring the items that are going back and forth for so many plat, and produce gold sinks in the market to gradually siphon out the old money over time.

Hmm, I sorta agree with the point that some of the fun has disappeared from collecting. To me, having powerful stuff isn't fun. It's fun to hunt for the powerful stuff. I don't really have to go around excited, looking for someone with the right items and upgrades for me to trade with anymore. That's too bad.
But on the other hand, the stats on the green items way be perfect, but not always good. F.eks. most green items have perfect shelter stats or something like that. To me, shelter is a useless stat. I'd prefere perfect sundering, perfect vampiric and perfect damage. But no green items have all the mods I'd like. So instead of getting them, I go hunting for a gold item that can still carry those mods.
And while we're at it, green items have fixed looks. What if I don't want a Sephis Axe or Summit Axe? I'd much rather have a gold cool-looking item than a green ugly item. In my opinion, looking cool and having a style of play is one of the most important things in an RPG. I'm supposed to but on a role (Role Playing Game) but I can't do that if my items don't look like I want them to. So again I must conclude that I have to go hunting to get what I want. And that's fine because I think it's great fun!
Plus, isn't it way cooler to have spend time getting the weapon you want than just killing an innocent boss to get it? That way, when you finally get your weapon, you'll be alot happier than you'd have been if you just killed a boss.

I posted in another thread about this, but greens are suped up collectors, nothting more, nothing less. I have yet to see one that is better than what I have in gold variety or collector ( I upgraded) variety.
What really MAY ruin the "economy" is the chests, but the drops from them I think have been "nerfed" already as well. Most chests were dropping some nice stuff right after the update. But lately the drops have been gold/purple armors a vast majority of the time, for me at least, and if a gold weapon does drop it is an ultra hi requirement and has silly mods, as mentioned, that cross two or even 3 different builds, and even then the upgrades on it aren't even worth slavaging, so I sold them to the trader for their value, which was actually quite high consdiering hhow worthless they were. So I spent 700 for the key but got btween 250-400 back from the trader. So it is basiaclly gambling.
But basically t is soon going to become a market of perfect upgrades. People wil have the base weapons, and simply be looking for the 10/10 or the +5s or the +20%'s, and +30's. There MIGHT be a market for the one off perfect upgrades, for people without a lot of money, but I think the days of selling those +15% enchant staff wraps for 3-4K are gone. Because there willbe plenty of +20s around. I had 3 anyways so I am going to spend my time selling two of them off (while i can still get the 100K) and upgrading an air staff for a switch on my ele
I still have a buyer for all the gold armors I find, so I more than make up for it there. Until that market dries up, then I guess I will salvage them and start iding them, or selling them in Ascalon for 1k a piece or something.
You have t adapt, it seems like a great fear sets in on both sides, but sooner or later it all settles down. the only market that never really came back was the rune market. But it is still possible to sell the very best for a decent amount. It is just "killing" the lower end items.

there are the perfect items in the crystal desert that are well..not as good but a good option, so i dont see any reason for the greens, apart from bringing perfect upgrades down, which can be done in other ways.
i'd also like to say that rather than having somehting that isn't unique with 1000 clones everywhere, why not have random stats/names, respective to the weopon type/boss name. also not dropping as much.

I notice more rune drops, espically from the *few* chests (not letting that gold sink sucker me too much ) I've opened. I think anet from what I've seen looks like they are starting to drop more runes.

i agree.
green items spoil the fun somehow. previously, i found it fun to farm for golds and purples. it was fun unidentifyin them hoping i get a 10/10 sundering, +15>50, 5/1 vampiric and so on. now, u see a green item ull know oh ... a green item the stats are so and so.. since all green item of that sort have the same stats.
secondly, they are perfect modded, infact they are better. +60 health? who would need a +30 health gold anymore? in the past, people would work towards a certain weapon or a certain weapon mod. now if uve gotten a greenweapon, who needs mods? this definitely spoils the market.
also, i hate the fact that greens are THAT common. since they are THAT good, why should they be as common as they are now? if they want to make green weapons, fine, create limited amounts of them. like 100 each of the each green item. sortoff like limited editions one. this would make people who get it happier and also make people who used to farm for rare weapons glad, rather than spoiling the economy.
somepeople spend 100 hours into the game farming to produce a godly gold weapon. now, u just have to spend 10 minutes to get one. is this fair?

I got gold armor last night and I remember when that was a good thing, it can be but usually it is a superior rune worth 150gp, I would rather it be steel and I can sell that. They accomplished what they wanted...total farm nerfing. I never farmed but it never bothered me. honestly gold weapons do suck next to a green one. Why does everyone say "you cant mod them!" who the hell would want or need to. how can you mod a perfect weapon?
I just need to remember to sell gold armor and not salvage it anymore, ppl may pay more than 150gp for the chance it is a superior Absorption. The Chest thing IMO is gay as hell, purple and gold drops like mad. and that key thing I guess is a way to trick the rich on spending the piles of money so they get crap and we all are poor, but i guess then super rich will be considered 50k in vault.
Maybe they kept special weapons like a crystalline purple and gold only. I cant imagine a boss with it. if u get it as a green tell us where, ill sell my gold one asap.
