Sorta reminds me of velious magic resistance and the need for melee range so that the stupid AI could get some hits in on a soft target.

I went in very shortly a while yesterday, and my team died before completing one quest. I went in with 3 skills total because I wasn't paying attention, and our team just kept running into shit. It was great though, there were 3 of us in TS, and we were the last 3 alive. And the great thing is, all the time they were fighting and shit, we were just normal attacking not really paying attention. In fact we were making all sorts of australian jokes and just swearin' out the wazoo for the hell of it, and we were the last ones alive.
Good stuff.

That's the GalenTrask-quest?
I somehow managed to get the Djin into those stomping piston things that did the job for me.
The KillroyStonekin-quest prooved to be most boring.
I tried the Orzar-quest with henchmen only, but my hench-team usually get's killed during the 4th attack-wave.
Sure, you get rezed after 10 secs, but since my ranger doesn't do much healing, I can't get to Orozar in time, to stop him from getting killed, and the hench don't have a priority to heal him.
I should try the priest-quest one day, but since it gives 8Kxp it should be quite tough too.
Now as for the FinalAssault mission. Quite boring too, until the end, when you reach the RageBinders.
My henchteam was able to get the patrol and all the FurnaceGuardians, but that's about it.
Some say, that it will be impossible without splitting the team, though somebody in-game suggested the idea, that you should just bring each RageBinder down to 10% health, do the same with the other 2 and then try to finish them off within 10 sec respawn time.
It's def. a challenge and I think it won't be long until somebody sais, that s/he did it with a hench-team.
The biggest challenge in FinalAssault, like in ThunderHeadKeep, is, to get a team of non-quitters who don't rush. I had 2 warriors on the team yesterday (same guild) who just got us and, of course, themselves killed over and over again.
What's wrong with the line "Don't go into the furnace room unless you want to rez somebody"? As soon as the (very qualified, I must say) monk went in to rez hench and others, they followed and got killed again.
In the end the only 2 W's left. With a DP skyhigh and 2 hench and 4 real ppl it was a no-go.

The new mobs (Dredge) look nice, but nothing memorable and skill-wise, they aren't the most dangerous either. All non-Boss Mobs are still at lvl 24 and are as easy to kill as they've always been in, say, frozen forest. What is this supposed to be? What am I missing?
I had the quest for the priest, where you have to return his tome. The only reason I didn't finish this quest was that once i dropped it, I couldn't pick it up again. Bug or feature? In either case it was frustrating enough for me to just warp back to Rankor. I guess I will play all the missions exactly once, see the famed uberboss, then grenths footprint and Sorrows Furnace will pretty much have lost their incentive for me to return, except maybe for farming. Unless I'm badly mistaken, these areas need serious buffing to provide the promised challenge.
And please, refrain from the usual assortment of "It's free as in beer, so don't complain" posts. I KNOW, and ANet has certainly done an outstanding job on this update, especially since I've not seen a lot of it in these few hours. I just want to see the challenge that was promised by ANet. How do you feel about it?
|
I have no intention of telling you it was free and deal with it, because I don't believe a word of your post.

I think it's kind of unfair to criticize the update without seeing ALL the new material first. Have you succesfully completed the Final Assault quest? Do you even know that you have to fight not one, not two, but three Flame Djiin at once to complete that quest? Or how about the quests that Glint gives out in Droknar's Forge? I don't know how much you've done, but based on your post, it looks like you've barely scratched the surface
I did it Final Assault with 4 guildmates and 3 henchmen and it was a little hairy at times, but more or less pretty easy (though the five of us are all very experienced GW players). Luckily, there is a simple and rather obvious way to easily counter the Flame Djiin...even three at once. Many of you probably already know it. However for those that don't...I'll go ahead and let you figure it out (and no, it is not lure them to the nearest Furance Guardian/Friendly NPC)

The mobs spawn when you get the next crystal.
My group finished this task on the first attempt. I (protection monk) was told to stay back with the priest.
Whenever i saw the enemies coming, i alerted my team in the usual spamming of "INCOMING!!"
On the last wave, i told my team to expect a big attack (the classic Anet culmination and possible ultimate failure).
A ranger offered to stay back too.
So, we divided our forces. On the last attack, our ranger positioned himself on the corner at the top of the steps.
All the enemies piled up on him and were bottle-necked. He used one or two stances, throw dirt and used oath shot while i cast protective spirit, shield of regeneration and aegis....and watched the stampede of reinforcements smash the enemy to pieces.
Probably the easiest quest i did, but then i never saw the action
I love this update.

I think the quote "harder than..." refers to the game-review on IGN.
On the other hand, though aNet didn't use those exact words, they sort of suggested (or wanted us to believe) that it would get harder.
And some of it actually is. Or at least: apperas to be harder, because the "old" strategies no longer work that perfect as they did on the other quests/missions.

Bah. I hate the "make it harder" crowd. I'm one of those so-called lousy players who has enough trouble with the difficulty as it is. I managed to get through the Sorrows Furnace slave quest, including the fire djinn, with henchies, but learning that once again I'll be stuck looking for a PUG to carry on through the rest of the Furnace quests is most disappointing to me. One of the biggest GW draws for me was the ability to "solo" the game using henchies. When I got to the end of the game, with missions that could not be done without finding a group, I began to lose interest. No fun sitting in an outpost for two hours, trying to find a PUG only to have it fall apart in 10 minutes after a few narcissistic griefers cap their elite skills then bugger out.
Please stop asking ANet to make everything harder. Might make y'all feel powerful and good, but it basically dumps us less-than-perfect casual gamers into the old trash heap.

I think it is a good balance. I have done all the quests except the final assault. Simply because I have been helping people hunt for greens, and haven't had the time to wait to get a full team together to do it.
But Some are definately easier than others. I didn't think the Djinn quest was that hard at all, I didn't do any of the clever tricks like taking him into the ice golems. In fact I was with a hench team, I ran into him and cast Balts aura and Wraith. I saw he did hit me with some fire attack and did 300 dam, but I also had Vital blessing on so I had 700+ hitpoints at the time, and about 5 of Lina's protects on me, so I guess I was just lucky.
But what people stil fail to realize, that henches are better than 90% of the PUG players you will find. If you could interchange hench spells yourself you could build a team that VERY few could defeat. So dong quests with henches doesn't mean the quests are easy, it means you probably had the best possible team available. That is if you yourself have some skill and know the order in which to target enemies as to not get your team killed.
All I know is that when I go withhenches I kill A LOT faster than I do with even a pretty decent PUG team. Basically because they target pefectly, and they focus fire. While I might be spam targetting a Dolyack while watching the warriors attack a ranger or a gnasher, with my hench team that Dolyack AND ranger AND gnasher would have already been dead.
The only thing henches won't do is run away if you are dead and the battle is lost, and they still do not rez as quickly as they should. But they will at least try to focus on some enemies even if their fearless leader (me) is dead, and I have watched them kill 5-6 enemies while I patiently waited to get rezzed once it ended.
So I love it when I hear/read people saying "I did it with henches" of course you did, they are a very good and balanced team. Try doing it witha PUG teamand see what happens LOL.

I don't see what's up with the Fire Djin is it that huge firey thing that looks like a ice skater. XD
Anyway I tried to get a screen shot of it (I was with nothing but henchies) and my comp froze from the screen shot. But when it caught up and thing died without my help with the henchies =P

Well there are more things henchies cant do: e.g. split up. Thats the reason I refuse to do any protection quests. When a group of enemies spawns after taking some item and attacks the one who is waiting far away... Its mostly impossible to run back in time to protect him.

May I suggest to all of those people whining about the free update being sub-standard that , if it's additional content and quality content they are looking for, maybe they should play a game thay has a monthly subscription. I have been playing Eve Online now for 2 years and I am forever complaining about a lack of content on every patch (even though it is unfounded complaints) but to knock a free game for free updates is taking the p155. SF is visually great and for me at least very challenging, even with henchies.
