Heh you've tapped into the mystery of the shred... yeah no one knows. It does nothign but provide a good item to use as an inventory separator currently. Try using the search button for that.

I believe ANet addressed this ... as of now the Tapestry Shread serves no purpose - but, rest assured, it'll be important for an upcoming quest - in the expansion, perhaps.
