ARGH! Iron Mines drivin' me NUTS!
Level 20 Necro/Mesmer build, Armor Infused.
I have been trying to do the mission at the Iron Mines of Moladune since December 25th. Almost daily, several times a day. In fact, yesterday I did the mission almost 20 times, and failed each time. I tried to find a group to go with, as the members of my "guild" are often MIA, and after about 30 minutes of no one paying me any mind, someone told me to do the mission with henchies because it was easier that way. Well, that's how I had been doing it but I decided to go again. And my @ss was properly handed to me.
I think I'm too used to playing the hard hitting character from another game, so I was an upfront necro, casting and then hitting. After some people taking me to the UW (more on that later), I thought that perhaps I was dying on my mission because I wasn't taking what I learned in the UW and putting it to use. They made me a battery in the UW. Although I didn't go and tweak all my skills to do that with the henchies, I did stay back more, using "Weaken Armor", my one and only elite skill, "Spiteful Spirit", "Shadow Strike", "Dark Pact", and using bone minions to help out the tanks. I've gotten further, but Martigris the Stalwart kills me before I can get past him.
I'm sure my sis can help me do this mission but she hasn't been online (and I don't like to interrupt her two day weekends keeping her pinned to a PC when she does that all week long), but if I can do it myself I'd rather just ...catch up to her, for a change. Are there any necros, or anyone for that matter, that can offer me some advice? I made it to Markis once, totally by accident, and he used barrage on everyone and killed my whole group. I was basically a sitting duck at that point, even with using the corpses to make bone minions.
...kinda sick of Moladune, if yanno what I mean
I didn't even get to see much of the UW, because I had to watch the other players and cast on them to keep their energy high. All I left there with was some damned glittering dust. I got shafted!

Everyone likes to fight through iron mnes these days, I personally stick to the old days of running my ass off to the seer.

And to the OP, you're going the wrong way. The henchies aren't infused and going through the Mursaat way will be the death of you. Once you pass the first group of Stone Summit/White Mantle, head to your right to avoid the seekers on the hill and follow the pathway along the frozen river. Keep going up that path avoiding any other path that will lead to Mursaat/Jades until you get to the Seer.
Once you've done that you'll have no choice but to go through some Mursaat but it isn't that many. Taking the fort out where Markis is is pretty easy.

Ditto. I've run past with hechies before just to get either, A.) Infused or B.) Skill cap. You can do it. I did it with hechies with my Necro just so I could cap SS, but I still went thru the mission. I also did it with my Ranger to cap Barrage.

That's the route I took the first time I got to Markis, and yes, it was rather easy. In fact, I advised someone yesterday having problems with the Jade Armors to "follow the frozen stream" I started going the other way today, when I wanted to see what route that was.
So, if I go the old way (i.e. following the river/stream), and I actually make it to Markis again, what's the easiest way to dust him? Any advice is much appreciated
And hey y'all, thanks for replying so fast!

Just take out the groups around him bit by bit, once you've done that, slaughter him. A few Jades will pop out to attack you but they shouldn't be too much trouble.
If you want to go through the Mursaat way, you're best getting a full party that's skill capping and/or doing the bonus.

the key is patience.
as it has already been mentioned, you should take the frozen stream route if you go with hench. once you reach the area where markis is, there should be two groups of enemies near him that consist of 1 mursaat and a few white mantle. you will want to take those 2 groups out before engaging markis.
just take your time and only take on small groups at a time.

I've just gotten to this mission too, and have quickly realised than non-infused=owned by Mursaat/Jades. Shame, I wanted to capture Life Transfer from this too :P
Kinda caught me off guard when I fought a Jade, thinking the 'you need to infuse your armour' was just a bit in the story.. Soon found out otherwise :P
Thanks for letting me know about the avoidance route, I'll give this a shot tomorrow with Henchmen, unless there's a good team on.

Hey everyone, thanks for responding Sorry I didn't follow up sooner, I've been under the weather. I just wanted to say that the same evening I posted this, and got such sage advice, my sis got online, and we got a group together. She's a ranger, so I think they just took me cuz they wanted her and we were already partied up *lol*
Anyway.. three people in the group weren't infused, so we ran to the Seer, got them infused, took the back way out of the cave (I didn't even know you could do that!), and put a whoopin' on Markis!
It's just so hard for me to find a group. I don't know if it's that people don't value/appreciate/like necros or what, but everytime I said I was looking for a group I went largely ignored. Sis parties up with me, and in under a minute we had 6 other people.
I'm on my way to run through Thunderhead with henchies, just to get a feel for the place, and the enemies therein, and then I hope to be able to pick up a group. Sis is at endgame with her character, and we've been leery of starting new ones because of all that "newbie" crap that goes on if someone is lower than level 12. I might do it anyway
Thanks again, everyone!

@LivingDeadGrrl - You might want to take a look at the SS Necro builds for SF. These are NOT the same as SS/SV.
In particular, I am thinking of Spinal Shivers vs. any PvE boss. If they can't cast, they are easy to kill.

Eh? Just drop by the War Camp where everybody wants a necromancer so bad it's absurd.
As for those who thinks THK is hard - actually it's so easy. Ironically everybody doesn't want to do the bonus for THK but if you activate the bonus it actually makes the mission easier.

Carinae - that's very true! Hang out in the back, and cast on 'em til they drop
I gotta agree with you, Barinthus - THK was easy once I got in a good group. And you know what's even crazier? The next 3 missions after that, on the Fire Islands, I went through like a hot knife through butter. I think I really just needed to not only have a good group, but learn a necro's place. My sis was laughing at me last night when we were playing, kept telling me "You're not a Gladiator, get in the back!" *lol*
I'd like to go back to THK and try the bonus again. Somehow, he got away from us.. we kept running after him and screaming "Noooooo you GET BACK HERE!"
