My next fissure (not complete yet) is my Mesmer, farming constant trolls + griffons for about 1- 2 weeks (1.5 hours a night etc). Few Drok runs here and there, then got a lucky 11>50 Crystaline from teh old strongbox. This bumped me up slightly, still got a few ecto to go now, should have my second set soon. This will be my last set, unless i get a drop worth 105 ecto + 105 shards :P.
All in all, my first set was mainly due to the shadow bow purchase, with not *that* much farming, my second set was half and half.
These people with 4 sets plus either had a few lucky drops, or they ebay, but i dont accuse everyone of ebaying like some people on here do.

Where can I find that strongbox?
I only see them but ever so often.. anyway to predict the location?

My Ranger Fissure was courtesy of my solo monk back in the heydays of UW soloing. Took about a month to gather all the materials+funds.
Can't really do that anymore though.

I got very lucky and had a perfect flesh horn bow drop for me, which pretty much payed for all of my fissure set.

You can earn as much as 600k gold in 8 hours of intense trading on a lucky day, or as funny as 50k in 10 hours w/o luck.

Doing average farm runs for the same amounts of time, wields alot more than 'trading' imo,
Farming either griffons or trolls outside droks takes around 5-10 minutes, each run wields 2k plus.
If you had the patience to farm them for 10 hours, then you would be a rather rich person.
Its not that hard to get Fissure, or to save up large sums of money, what you have to think is, do you wait 30 minutes longer to sell an item to someone for 2k more, or sell to merchant, and in the 30 minutes saved, get 5 more items like the original? Ive seen people in Droknars selling a horrendous sword, then 2 hours later, still trying to salvage the thing.
Another thing, dont stand in Droks/Ascalon/LA selling just one average item, collect a fair few, then sell. Saves alot of time
Remember, the merchant is your friend

Silly question - but being that I've never farmed so far (First char level 20 at Iron Mines), do you guys solo farm these griffons?? Or do you bring a few henchies along to help? I'm a N/E and tried the Underworld, but cannot figure out how to stay alive in there yet - I know Griffons are much easier so.... just wondering.

When I was saving up for my FOW armor, I spent hours doing all the usual dull farming runs (hydra with my 55 healer, griffons with the 55 and my monk, chest runs in the FOW). Most of what you find is only suitable for selling to the merchant - but that adds up if you do it every day. Occasionally you'll find an item worth the horrors (for me anyway) of standing in LA1 and shouting WTS.
I know that some have better and more organized methods (working the materials market has been mentioned here). I think the real secret is finding a way that enjoy that also puts gold in your storage bin. Even now that I have the armor, have the weapons and shields that I want, I still farm. So since all the methods take a lot of time and also take you away from the real plotline of the game, the only sure-fire method is finding something that is fun. Otherwise you'll quit before you reach your goal.

I am about to go get my warriror set (with a few extra pieces) sometime this week. I have been very lucky in that I sold 3 bulwarks, 3 sup vigor and 3 sup absorptions to get most of the way there.
I did buy some gold off ebay though and am not ashamed to admit it. I am in the game to play the game. And I am an egotist so I want to have good/cool weapons and armor. I find no joy in spending hours and hours in boring farming when I can get what I need relatively cheaply and go on enjoying and playing the game. I also don't want to spend hours spamming "WTS" in Lion's Arch or "WTB Ecto/Shards" to save on a few K.
If the chinese gold farmers want to do that, good for them, I will pay them for their efforts so that I can enjoy the game.
Do I feel like it is any less "earned" or "deserved", maybe a bit, but I did work a good way towards it myself due to lucky drops and I have played 6 characters all the way through the pve campaign through the normal grind.
So that's how I am "earning" my FoW.

My monk and necro fissure armor came from hours and hours of hard work, needless to say from farming and chest runs. Most of the funds came from the pre-nerfed UW and getting "uberly" chaos axes from chests -_-".

Everyone here has pretty much covered everything. You can run people (droknar's runs are highly profitable if you can consistently do them), you can play merchant, buying low and selling high, you can do farming runs (ToPK, FoW spiders, UW, griffons, doesn't really matter, they all bring in some cash) or you can just play the game. The last option is of course slower than the others, but you will eventually get it.

Amen to that.

i just about have enough gold to buy all the materials. I have only ever got 7 ectos and my money has come from buying and selling items and a bit of solo farming the lvl 24 ice trolls solo with my w/e.
Others find it easier to spend hours solo or duo farming for ectos but i find it easier to make 10k profit on an item in the same amount of time.
