You're supposed to take the tapestry, the cape, and the flute from post into the UW to Sarah, from what I hear, you need all 3 pieces.

Everything I've read here makes me think perhaps it will be a "find Gwen" quest eventually, perhaps. Perhaps she's been kidnapped, or something.
She kept reminding me of the little girl Goddess in the Sparhawk books, whose name I can't recall but I think started with a D....

That would be the goddess Aphrael, from David Edding's Elenium series: The Diamond Throne, the Ruby Knight, and the Sapphire Rose.
The little girl who's name starts with D doesn't come until the very end of that series, although she plays a bigger role in the second series, the Tamuli. However, to prevent spoilers to those who haven't read it, I won't elaborate. But it probably doesn't give away anything to say her name is Danae.
Incidently, may I put a plug in here. This is Edding's best series, in my opinion. He's better known for the Belgariad/Malloreon, which he wrote earlier, and people often deride this series as being a bit too much like the previous one. I admit he reuses a lot of ideas for the Elenium/Tamuli, but frankly, he does it better the second time around. If you're really only going to read one series rather than both because they might be repetitive, you'd be better off reading the second one. Personally, I enjoyed both, but I recommend the Elenium/Tamuli over the Belgariad/Malloreon.

Danae! That's it, thank you I was thinking Danae, but thought I was confusing it with my cousins name, which is similar.
For some reason, the idea of Gwen put me in mind of that type of thing, when I first kept encountering her

Rumors
I have heard rumors about a dead flower in the post-seering... maybe that flower is connected to the gwen quest? so... if you put all the items together, the cape, the flute, you know the drill... with the mystic flower... and then talk to sarah in the underworld... perhaps you will get information about something... or everyone could scout around the ascalon area for the body of gwen? maybe shes still there :O
nah seriously... i will try to look into the dead flower matter!

Gwen is thought to be dead is post-searing
it might be a rumor, or it might be true, but from what a GOOD few people have told me, Gwen DIES , she is found dead somewhat FAR into post-searing..... after that sad news...
to get the tapestry shred an be her best mate.. heres what you got to do
Find her broken flute (further up from where you see her)
Then buy her a new flute because he old one is broken (cheeky lil so n so thats another 4g)
Then letting her follow you is a good way +20hp when your health goes below 50% isn't really that good but it helps, along the way you find Red Iris Flowers give them to her, she takes 4 or 5... and BANG your her new best mate wahey .
Also if you feel generous like i do, and want to do almost everything in pre-searing, buy her the cape, cause shes so lonley and lost her mummy
hope this helped
BTW from my experience with a monk **correct me if im wrong**, but monks dont get her quest, cause when i saved her from the River Skale Tad's she already had a cape an flute whipped out (and i dint do the res quest with someone else, the first missions up until the second proffesion i do FIRST & on my own)
and BTW again the tapesry shred is for post-searing again again somewhat far into it..
Hope i helped and look after Gwen, cuz if i cud kill her for robbing my money for that cape i probably would.

This is all very entertaining....all of the ideas and guesses. The truth is somewhat less entertaining and considerably more simple.

Yay, time to post on a dead thread!
Ok, here's my theory about Gwen... There is one thing about Gwen that sets her apart from every NPC in pre-searing (other than collectors, merchants, etc.) her story does not continue into post-searing. If you look hard enough, you will be able to find something about everyone, except for her (other than her various momentos). I'd say that it is almost guaranteed that Gwen's story will be continued, or perhaps concluded when chapter 2 finally comes around.

That quest has nothing to do with Gwen, basically all this is is reuniting a daughter and son with their dead ghostly parents. The parents are a pain to have follow all the way back to Ascalon, though...Ghosts always walk too slow (painfully recalls Leah Stone in Abaddon's).
