Well, you could imaginen how much spam it would be if all 11 guilds (1000+) members had access to the alliance chat.

I think it should be alliance sided option. The leader of the alliance could mark a checkbox with "Allow all members to talk" or "Allow only officers/leaders".

Because for example small alliances / guilds can still have easier communication.. and if it gets spammy you can always turn alliance chat off again as member side option

While Alliance's and Alliance chat are great ideas (Thanks Anet!) I think they were implemented very poorly. Some guilds are approaching 100+ members. To grow any further, sister guilds are a solid option, and with the alliance/alliance chat associated with Faction's release, we were quite excited as now no one in the sister guild would ever feel "lonely". But allowing only the guild leader and officer to use alliance chat kind of ruins that option. While I do agree that alliance chat might end up being a bit "busy" if everyone were allowed to use it, I still think that giving the guild the option of choosing who can use it is necessary. Perhaps allowing the guild leader to give "Permission" to people in order to use alliance chat. I don't have the perfect answer, but I think the current situation is quite faulty.

While that is definitely an easy and the obvious solution, do you think it is acceptable to promote the entire guild to Officer's just to use alliance chat? Most people in good guilds earn their officer position, and promoting everyone else just so they can use alliance chat is a plain silly idea.

While before, people were aware that officers/leader could invite and kick people, but those privileges weren't necessarily shoved in people's faces. Now, there are more members who are feeling less equal than others in the guild, because they are banned from chatting on alliance chat.

I used to be able to tell members that being an officer is nothing special; the way alliance chat works, though, it's an obvious perk now that will show every day.

As far as 1000 people using alliance chat at once: Before we knew that only officers and leader would be able to use it, I amended our CoC to include judicious use of alliance chat. Excessive use would get you kicked from the guild, and we expected all the guilds in the alliance to be as responsible for their own members. Now it's a moot point.

I've experianced it before in other games. What ends up happening is everyone just turns it off most times because it is too busy...then it's function fails because no one listens.

I personaly feel this is a wise descision. Giving the officers a much needed perk.

It also prevents some new member of yours from spouting off his trap and pissing off your enitre alliance.

well the alliance leader can set rules, any guild member caught selling items recruting genral spaming will be warned, kicked watever. because i was thinking of like a allicane that used the same forum same teamspeak etc like a huge guild.

in my guild i had to make every1 officer, alliacne is a cool thing to have, but if all my members can not expericance it i dont like that, they boguht factions and/or prophies they should be able to gain benfit from alliance chat, not feel left out because they can read but not reply, that is jus wrong.

Its Called priveledge...thats why only officers and the leaders can use alliance chat. If you are not an officer and think you should be able to use alliance chat...stop wasting your time posting here and go earn your officer position.

If your an officer or the leader and you want your guys to be able to use alliance chat...maybe you should be considering who your officers are and who should be one.

personally i think Anet got this one right. an army can not stand without leaders and followers. Leaders have privledges and followers have privledges although they are different. Im sure some officers would rather not deal with the responsibilitie and im sure plenty of members want em.

I can understand 1000 people talking, ut when 2 or 3 casual guilds with around 10 people each, it doesn't make sense. Toggle /signed

In situations like this if it's so important that all 20-30 of you be able to communicate consolidate in to one guild.

If you aren't so friendly with these people that you're not willing to share a joint guildname, cape, and hall why is it so important you be able to chit chat with them?

As far as forming groups how hard is it for an officer to fire off a quick alliance message of "Group forming for X, contact so-and-so."

If they can't handle that why are they even an officer?

It seems to me that the people who are so upset that they can't use Alliance chat should under no circumstances be granted access to it anyway.

That's just spam waiting to happen.

No way.

Here's a scenerio.

You have two guilds, A and B.

The guildleader of A decides that he wants to allow all his members to use Alliance chat.

However the members of B do not want to have to deal with that.

Now the members of B are forced to turn off Alliance chat, /ignore people, or flat out leave the Alliance.

All just because guildleader A thinks that Alliance chat is the coolest and wants all his guildies to be able to play with the neat new chat channel.

Either that or the leader and officers just aren't reliable enough to support their guild by passing along group requests.

but sheesh the pompous nonsence suggesting paeons shouldnt be 'priveleged' enough to use the alliance chat is hogwash.

As others have said - I'd like this amended to make it customisable (by guild leaders and / or officers)

As to it being that much of a privelege .... you know what, I think it's a CHORE. I now know I will have to be typing peoples requests / suggestions into Alliance chat half the time I am playing.

I agree. Not everyone should be able to use Alliance chat.

Only those who have earned their officer status and can be trusted not to abuse it.

At least in good guilds as you say.

Fortunately Alliance chat has already been implemented in just this way.

Yep it's a responsibility. You're the guildleader. Designate some officers you can trust and deal.

You don't want to deal with the "chore" of coordinating with fellow Alliance members?

I figure a good guildleader or officer would have no problem stepping up to handle these simple responsibilities.

Do you just want the "status" of being able to say you're a guildleader?
