How the hell....?

I dunno about that gold thing, but my Ranger has the same kind of XP without farming. I just play him that much

Oh, I just thought it odd that someone has FoW armor, over 500k gold, and 1.2 mil XP by just doing the missions and quests.

I know this isn't directed at me but I couldn't pass up the opertunity to respond to it.
Sure, that is 1 r6 idiot, but does that mean all players who advertise their rank in PvE are like this? NO!. Thats like saying because one black man commits a crime, all black people are criminals, when that obviously isn't the case. There is no 100% valid and fair way to tell someone skill other than by playing with them.
I'm a rank 9 player (less than 300 fame off r10...) and yes, I advertise my rank in PvE because it gets me into groups faster. I wouldn't do any of the **** mentioned in your post to get into a group nor will I claim to be more experienced than anyone else because of my rank, but hey, like some others have mentioned, it cuts the amount of time you spend LFG in half.
This quote sums up my final words:

... and as I said before, I won't use my rank to get into a group.. nor my fow armor nor anything that is not related to my PvE skills.
EDIT - And yeah, Lasher Dragon: same feeling.

Rank, huh...in PvE, no less. What a joke.
I don't recall anyone flashing their rank in Prophecies to get into a group; if they had, I'd have put them in the same category as the people who say, "Level 20 (choose your profession) with FOW armor looking for group..."
You want to show your title, fine. You want to show your rank, fine. You have the right to show it and be proud of it. But it's been my experience that the people who consistently "flash" their credentials like this to get into or form PUGs usually make the lousiest team players. Not always, but usually. That may work in the PvP world (especially since I NEVER see a thread about PvP players or PvP teams taking a chance on inviting new players, much less helping them out), but as a PvE player, I could care less about your rank or title.
You want to come on a quest or mission with me? Fine. I'll know, after that 1st skirmish, if you can do it or not. I've formed and taken a number of PUGs into FOW and UW; for every 10 groups, I may have 1-2 PUGs that werent great. For those other 8 groups, I never worried what their "rank" was, whether they had 15k armor, or whether they were going to try a mission for the 1st time.
In PvE, rank or titles really dont mean much, except for the person who wants it.
As for my own rank or title---I wasnt thinking about that when I finished everything in Prophecies; I'm not gonna think about it when I finish everything in Factions...
Rank, huh...in PvE, no less. What a joke.

95% of the time a ranked player will be vastly better than an unranked player, be it PVE or PVP.
Can't blame those who have earned a better rank from wanting players of their own caliber in their party.
Those who are jealous of others with higher rank should instead of complaining about their own lack of rank - go earn some of their own.

almost without fail, if i get an un-known high-ranked pvp junkie in a pve mission; they will do poorly.
on the few exceptions they are often really cool players who most often dont display their rank unless you ask them.

I look at those threads , with people stuck at missions and stuff, i never had this problem once, most of the missions got 3 swords because yes i was looking for ranked people.
PvPers worked hard to get their rank , i dunno what PvE-ers worked hard to get?. I managed to get FoW not with farming but with winning halls with firends/guildies and sometimes PuGs , i gained XP in this game and money.
I dont care make your own Un-Ranked team but dont throw dirt at people who worked hard getting ranked at some level.

I would love to agree with you there but Heroes ascent is just a crazy place. The fact that a significant proportion of people iwayed to rank 6/9 means that they are a lot of idiots about.
Heroes ascent is 3-4 months behind GVG in terms of the skills used and the philosophy there. Well since I am a monk i will point out some problems with heroes ascent in monk terms.
Channeling should not be a viable skill but this is forced upon by the maps and the playstyle of groups.
It is ridiculous to explain to a rank 9er that a prot booner can remove both cripple and a deep wound from himself easily with contemplation of purity and therefore having a cruel axe mod is just plain stupid.
Rank only means heroes ascent experience and that is diluted and tainted by iway. Id rather have one rank 8 member of IB over many of the rank 10/11 players in HA in my team.
I dont know about working to get rank but I play to have fun and try out new things and resent the closed minded mentality of many people who play in Heroes ascent.
That is not to say that I have not met some very nice people in heroes ascent. The thing is I have only got lucky twice in heroes ascent to get people on my freinds list which was all I needed. But the pain of getting that friends list :P
Though after saying all of that I still say that PVE only players who don't read up on the forums about the game and dont know how to sift the honey from the crap generally look at things all backwards.

Ok so my spill: I beat the game(prophecies) with 3 charachters 1 beat factions have 2 accounts after that I got bored of doing missions over and over and only made charachters to see if I liked them more than what I was using. My favorites are monk and necro. Got bored with pve and got up to rank 3 doing hoh. I spend alot of my time trying to come up with new solo builds for areas. Most of you on here know KcP me and him have worked together to cover most of uw and fow with 2 man.
1st rank doesnt require skill it requires time!!
2nd learn the needed builds(its more efficient if you have an idea of general skillbars for particular roles so when making a group you ask for their skillbars then you know right off the bat what you are dealing with and if they are willing to change it then you have a noob who is willing to learn and will generally be ok.(be prepared for ppl to get pissed at this as most think they are the only one who knows how to use that type of charachter.
HOWEVER my most noted perceptions are:
1. 9 out of 10 times I will not group with a warrior/monk not to say that a smite w/mo cant make a hell of a damage tank, but typically w/mos are farmers with inflated egos who waste points on mending even if they have 3 monks in the group and use minimal damage sword skills and run off from the group and overaggro.
2. be cautious of mo/w most of the monk/warriors you run across tend to be 55's who will get you killed so they can farm(not so much in factions but i did run across one idiot running 55 he ran right into 2 mesmers and a necro so you know the rest)
3. A lot of good players prefer to use henchies as they know exactly how to do the missions effeciently and the only one to blame for failure is their own mistakes as they know the antics of the henchies
4. Most players dont have a clue on efficiency with a group all they look at is shear damage output and healing(I'll carry spinal shivers over desecrate anyday as it can cut bosses down to nothing despite it not damaging)
examples ive seen: non 55 heal/prot/smite monk tries to carry alittle
everything usually ends up dead spamming rez me!
mesmer who cast backfire then proceeds to interupt every
spell cast by target
WHAMMOS!! especially the ones with heal area
Minion masters with low lvl minions
elementalist who concentrate on echoing meteor shower
by the time they get one cast everything is dead
The best Group is one where you get everyone to agree on what each person needs to bring (not every skill but the main core skills).

This is it, this hits the nail on the head.
The guys that (try) to get into PvE groups by way of Rank and constantly show off are, generally, horrible players that Faction farm with IWAY. They know HA well enough to be moderately successful, but they have no actual hope of holding Halls, and they more than likely will be such a showboat that they'll be a huge detriment to the team.
The ranked guys that DON'T try to use their emotes to get into groups are obviously more humble. They're probably more patient as well, and as such, make better decisions and better team players.
Ah, now if only those superficial idiots spamming Rank in PvE (or PvP for that matter) would just figure out that a little humility would take them farther, the game would be a better place. And bubble gum would rain from the sky.

doesnt mean your any better than the other wars spamming LFG...

Yes i have to agree wtih you. If you ask r8/9 people if it took them a long time to get their rank they would say , "back in the days" it didnt, it was much easier thery were the only one playing and alot of iway witch was not nerfed.
Right now with that many people trying to get rank its very hard and they give up . And they get angry on people because they are forming ranked teams in PvE . I think they do that because of insecurity, and i would do the same, atleast i know if i form a team i will get somewhere with it , im not going to die in the middle or right at the end with the big agrro.
GvG is way different than Heros Ascend , its just not the same. Top guilds that only GvG, have a hard time in Tombs, i dunno why but they do.
But accomplishing something in Tomb its something, seeing your name "------_-----" has won the Hall of Heroes. ANd keeps the favor for "---_---" . Its amazing . I never had my name there but i have freinds telling me about it, and the nicest thing is that everyone in the game, even if they are farming they SEE it.

keyword: generally. I bolded it and underlined it for you. There is no 100% fair and valid way to tell someones skill. Someone who flashes their rank or has FoW or whatever could be a good player, or a bad player. Their rank, FoW armor or whatever they are advertising as does NOT make them any better or any worse. You have to play with them to make a fair conclusion on them. Stop ****ing jumping to conclusions please.
And I love how you pick on IWAY and say it can't hold halls and that all IWAY players are horrible players. This just shows your lack of knowledge in PvP. I've held halls for over an hour with IWAY (and it wasn't just 1 lucky time, I do it quite often). You can tell me IWAY takes no skill but that'll just prove to me you've never played in a half decent IWAY team. I could write a lot more on the matter, but I won't, since this isn't the topic at hand.
