It depends whether the mesmer is in a group of monks or not
Also, the forge entrance has something like 5 mesmers and 2 monks. 2 groups, but either one would be harsh. (2mo 2me, 3me I think)

I always run into trouble at that group at the forge entrance... If you save some of the melee guys to pull to the mesmers and monks, and carefully group them (at least the monks together), then sv can still drain the monks energy. Although usually SB, the echoed SB, and the origianl SB again dont last long enough to kill all of em when the mesmers are not next to the group. Gotta keep PS covered with HB then, and only recaset PS when you know that the mesmers dont have their shatter enchantment recharged yet. I usually die here trying to run around getting them all together.. but it is possible. If you're lucky you can sneak by them.

This guys build doesn't include archane echo though...Wow I dunno how it would work at all. relying on covering ps and denying energy? Sounds mighty tough...

Arcane Echo isn't all that great imo. SB+SV to drain mobs energy would work fine... so long as you could keep SV up most of the time. Although it probably wouldn't matter as SS would rip through the mobs.

Heh kk, so monks are first priority, then mesmers. That takes care of shadow army, anything else I should watch out for?

Shadow army isn't dangerous beyond those... hmm..
Skales rend and degen to -12.
Hydras KD with shower.
Spiders can Distract. They also split aggro.
Dragon Liches are best killed with barbs and bows.
Obsidian Drakes use flareway, just watch for burning.
For the love of God, watch your aggro in burning forest when in groups of 2-3.
Setting off traps may be hazardous to your health. Even for 55.
Those useless little seeds of corruption can rend you with Linger.
Thats the basics for small grouping, I guess...

If i don't fancy tackling the mob outside the forge, this is what I do.
There is a group of Abyssals and warriors at the bottom of the hill to the entrance. I move close to them so they're just outside my aggro circle. Cast PS, step forward to aggro, cast SV, run back a little distance (because the Mesmer and monk mob sometimes run down the hill), cast HB and stand firm. They beat on me and the necro beat on them. SV helps to stop the Abyssals from using their skills that can prevent PS and HB casting. When SV runs out, I constantly spam PS and HB so if the Abyssals do knock me down then I still have the chance of recasting before they run out.
Once the Abyssals and warriors are dead, a big group of Shadow Beast will spawn and take position where the Abyssals and warriors were. Do the same thing and pull them to where you killed the Abyssals and warriors.
Once the shadow beasts are dead, the Mesmers and Monks would usually have wandered down the hill and roam where the Abyssals and warriors were originally grouped. Skirt pass them to the far side where there is a patrol of Skeletal. Cast PS, SB and HB and then aggro the skeletals. When they chase, run through the Shadow Mesmer and Monk mob. (Sometimes the skeletal patrol will wander into the shadow mob on their own). The skeletals and shadows will fight each other, so get the popcorn out, sit back and watch the fight. My necro partner usually run in and throw SS on the mob. Once the fight is over, go in and finsh off any that are still standing.
Here's a screenie of a fight taking place outside the forge. I was waiting for SB to recharge so I could drag an incoming skeletal mob into the already fighting mob. Necro partner went off to throw SS on them.

Heh nice. Do you still get drops if they fight each other? I geuss if your slapping ss on probably.
Thanks a lot Avarre, I doubt I will be able to remember everything just from the theory you wrote (there is no substitute for in game experience) but I am sure your notes will help me stay alive a bit longer than I would on a first run with no foreknowledge.
